Story U Talk Radio with Coach Debby

KKNW | Hubbard Radio

Story U Talk Radio grew out of Debby Handrich’s desire to bring listeners and authors together over the topics of writing, spirituality and transformation. Each week, Story U inspires an inquiry of the stories we live by, such as our love stories, our financial stories, family stories, and personal awakening stories. So much of the conversation is about discovering the real YOU in order to live peacefully and, just maybe, to pick up the pen and write your book.

"The Bogeyman Stole My Peace!" Understanding Stress- Part 2

For years as a college instructor, I had no idea the amount of stress that new writer's were experiencing. I was around up to 50 writers in one room, all stressed to the max about their upcoming writing assignment. At the time, I taught students about time management and how to deal with fear so they could put their procrastination to bed.  But honestly, it was never enough.  Giving students tips and tricks never made the bogeyman go away for good. The next assignment would appear, and they were face-to-face with a worse monster who seemed to have doubled in size since the last homework assignment.  Let's not forget life situations that show up unannounced - such as injury, or break ups, and other losses.  So it came time to take a deep dive into understanding the mind, where stress really comes from, and how to shift toward peace. Last week we looked at the fight or flight signals of stress. Now, we'll get into Part 2 so you can get some relief from stress today! We hope you love the show! My #1 Key Strategy for Neurodivergent Individuals

Many people fear that a learning diagnosis or label will keep them from their dreams at becoming an author. It's very popular, it seems, to be among the many who are verifiably neurodivergent. Somewhere in time, it became important to you or a system to label you. Did that help? For many of my students, it has caused stagnation and depression. For others, it's helped them feel as though a mystery was solved.  Yet when it comes to your writing, you can and will succeed the more you get to know your brain. As a writing instructor, I help people understand: You'll exhaust yourself trying to change your brain. I suggest you get to know it. Make friends with your brain. Today I'll help you with new approaches and strategies.  During today's show, I referred to an interview with author and coach, Michael Neill, and how I'm loving the "writing buddy" system offered in his class, titled, "So You want to Write a Book?" He and I had a conversation recently at Story U - check out the show link below. He's both insightful and delightful.  https://1150kknw.com/episode/a-writers-community-with-best-selling-author-michael-neill/ Write to Coach Debby: https://www.coachdebby.com/connect Follow the newsletter: https://coachdebby.us17.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=b4e0e4813c2d5d7bc3e03507b&id=5b97bac13f Follow the podcast recorded live at KKNW in Seattle every Thursday.
