    While breweries having extensive event programs for their tap rooms is absolutely nothing new, a trend that has been steadily growing has been focused around not just games, but very specific Trading Card Games. The two biggest are, and have always been, Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon. For the past year and a half, Oakland Park's famed Funky Buddha Brewery has been holding events to take advantage of both of these.     Events are nothing new to the craft beer industry. Some breweries, however, take things much bigger than the traditional weekly trivia nights. Some go all pout, creating yearly spectacles that draw in patrons that have eagerly anticipated the festivities. One such brewery is Ft. Myers Brewing. Their yearly event portfolio spans such calendar-based events as Oktoberfest and Christmas, but also branches off into FMB-exclusives such as their now annual Grouperfest, centered around their Mosaic Grouper Pale Ale. We spoke to Theresa Lavelle, Director of Marketing, during their Christmas in July event, to talk about how far in advance they begin to plan, their first events at FMB, and what their fans now come to expect from their events.     Mocama Brewing Pt. 1

    Nestled in on Florida's Atlantic side, just north of Jacksonville, is the small island community of Fernandina Beach. Here, in an old car dealership and tile showroom, sits Mocama Brewing. Mocama is the word for ocean in the ancient Timacua dialect that was spoken by pre-Colombian civilizations in the area. The namesake brewery opened near the end of 2020, opened by five people that had cut their teeth in the craft beer industry in locations like Creature Comforts. It is currently owned and operated by husband and wife team Kim and Andrew Batey and operates a full service kitchen, coffee shop open at 7:30 am daily, and (of course) the production brewery and tap room. In charge of much of that is Head Brewer Justin Southwell, Nicholas Johnson, Brewer and Production Manager, Assistant Brewer Justin Conway, plus the voice you'll hear for a lot of this episode, Coffee Shop Manager Elliott Terral. We start with a discussion of the coffee side of things, the rise of that segment of the third space, and Fernandina Beach's place in Florida craft beer (even after I horribly butcher the pronunciation).
