Ep. 395: When Your God Has to Be Carried

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 395, “When Your God Has to Be Carried,” Kim discusses the striking contrast between the powerless idols of Jeremiah 10:1–16 and the all-powerful God who speaks in Job 38. While idols had to be created, decorated, secured, and carried by human hands, the true God laid the earth’s foundations, commands the seas, and orders creation by His word. This episode challenges us to consider the modern “idols” we may be depending on for security, identity, or control. Why carry something that can never carry you when you can trust the God who holds all of creation in His hands?   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 10:1-16.   2 This is what the Lord says: “Do not act like the other nations,     who try to read their future in the stars. Do not be afraid of their predictions,     even though other nations are terrified by them. 3 Their ways are futile and foolish.     They cut down a tree, and a craftsman carves an idol. 4 They decorate it with gold and silver     and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails     so it won’t fall over. 5 Their gods are like     helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak,     and they need to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of such gods,     for they can neither harm you nor do you any good.”     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   This week, identify one good thing you may be asking to provide something only God can give, and intentionally put it back in its proper place by thanking God for the gift while trusting the Giver more than the gift.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Job 38 Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus     I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.   RESOURCES USED FOR BOOK OF Jeremiah/Lamentation PODCASTS: “The Wiersbe Bible Commentary: The Complete Old Testament OT in One Volume” “Christ-Centered Exposition: Exalting Jesus in Jeremiah & Lamentations by Steven Smith “Life Application Study Bible” “The Swindoll Study Bible: NLT” by Charles R. Ep. 394: The One Thing Worth Boasting About

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 394, “The One Thing Worth Boasting About,” Kim discusses what Jeremiah 9:23–24 teaches us about where we find our identity, confidence, and worth. While the world encourages us to take pride in our wisdom, power, accomplishments, and possessions, God points us toward something far greater—truly knowing Him. Through Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 11–12, we also discover that even our weaknesses can become opportunities for God’s strength to be displayed. Join Kim as she explores why knowing God is ultimately the one thing worth boasting about.   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 9:23-24.   23  This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom,     or the powerful boast in their power,     or the rich boast in their riches. 24  But those who wish to boast     should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord     who demonstrates unfailing love     and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things.     I, the Lord, have spoken!     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   This week, choose one quality God delights in—unfailing love, justice, or righteousness—and intentionally look for one opportunity each day to reflect it in the way you treat someone else.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   2 Corinthians 11:16-12:10 Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST. Ep. 393: When Tears Aren't Enough

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 393, “When Tears Aren’t Enough,” Kim discusses the professional mourners of Jeremiah’s day and how God used the language of lament to warn Judah of the judgment that was coming. She explores the difference between simply grieving the consequences of sin and experiencing the kind of godly sorrow that leads to genuine repentance and a changed heart.   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 9:17-22.   17  This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: “Consider all this, and call for the mourners.     Send for the women who mourn at funerals. 18  Quick! Begin your weeping!     Let the tears flow from your eyes. 19  Hear the people of Jerusalem crying in despair,     ‘We are ruined! We are completely humiliated! We must leave our land,     because our homes have been torn down.’” 20  Listen, you women, to the words of the Lord;     open your ears to what he has to say. Teach your daughters to wail;     teach one another how to lament. 21  For death has crept in through our windows     and has entered our mansions. It has killed off the flower of our youth:     Children no longer play in the streets,     and young men no longer gather in the squares. 22  This is what the Lord says: “Bodies will be scattered across the fields like clumps of manure,     like bundles of grain after the harvest.     No one will be left to bury them.”     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   This week, identify one thing you've grown spiritually comfortable with that God may be asking you to take seriously again, and spend intentional time praying, “Lord, help my heart care about what matters to You.”   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST. Ep. 392: When Later Becomes Too Late

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 392, “When Later Becomes Too Late,” Kim discusses the danger of delaying our response to God’s prompting. Using Jeremiah 8:20, she explores how missed opportunities for repentance and obedience can lead to regret and challenges listeners to respond to God today rather than assuming there will always be a tomorrow.   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 8:18-22, with 20 as the focal verse:   20 “The harvest is finished,     and the summer is gone,” the people cry,     “yet we are not saved!”     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   Identify one thing you know God has been prompting you to do but you've been putting off, and take one concrete step of obedience today.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring. Ep. 391: Don't Waste the Fire

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 391, “Don’t Waste the Fire,” Kim discusses the powerful imagery of the refiner’s fire in Jeremiah 6:27–30. She explores how difficult seasons can reveal what is hidden within us and how God can use those experiences to refine our hearts. The challenge is not simply to survive the fire, but to allow God to use it to transform us.   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 6:27-30.   27  “Jeremiah, I have made you a tester of metals,     that you may determine the quality of my people. 28  They are the worst kind of rebel,     full of slander. They are as hard as bronze and iron,     and they lead others into corruption. 29  The bellows fiercely fan the flames     to burn out the corruption. But it does not purify them,     for the wickedness remains. 30  I will label them ‘Rejected Silver,’     for I, the Lord, am discarding them.”     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   This week, identify one piece of spiritual “dross” God may be revealing in your life.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. (1 Peter 1:6-7) 2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. Ep. 390: When the Alarm Sounds

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 390, “When the Alarm Sounds,” Kim discusses the responses we can have to physical alarms and how we may have similar responses to spiritual alarms. In today’s text, we see the prophet Jeremiah distraught at the consequences he hears coming and how this will impact the people he has been called to warn. Yet, the people seem unconcerned about the danger and keep going on with their lives as if they do not have a care in the world. Does this sound familiar to anyone today?   Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 4:19-22, with 19-21 as the focal verses:   19  My heart, my heart—I writhe in pain!     My heart pounds within me! I cannot be still. For I have heard the blast of enemy trumpets     and the roar of their battle cries. 20  Waves of destruction roll over the land,     until it lies in complete desolation. Suddenly my tents are destroyed;     in a moment my shelters are crushed. 21  How long must I see the battle flags     and hear the trumpets of war?     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   For the next seven days, pay attention to the “warning lights” God may be using to get your attention.   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST. Ep. 389: Plow Up the Hard Ground of Your Hearts!

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 389, “Plow Up the Hard Ground of Your Hearts!” Kim discusses the word picture in Jeremiah 4 of the hard soil and the thorns. Whether our heart has a fully hard soil area or a hard area of ground, the Lord calls on us to “Plow up the hard ground of [our] hearts!” Even if our heart soil isn’t stone hard, that does not mean that we do not have some thorns that are choking out some of our growth and spiritual fruit.    Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 4:1-4, with 3-4 as the focal verses:    3 This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem: “Plow up the hard ground of your hearts!     Do not waste your good seed among thorns. 4 O people of Judah and Jerusalem,     surrender your pride and power. Change your hearts before the Lord,     or my anger will burn like an unquenchable fire     because of all your sins.     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   Bravely ask the Lord: “What do You want to change in me through this?”   PRAYER:   Lord, break up the hard ground of my heart. Pull out anything that is choking the work You want to do in me. Make my heart soft toward Your voice and ready to receive Your Word. Ep. 388: Come Home to Me Again

SHOW NOTES   In Podcast Episode 388, “Come Home to Me Again,” Kim discusses our merciful God and His call to His prodigals to "come home." In today's scripture, the Lord, through Jeremiah, reaches out to the Northern Kingdom. Just as He gave them chance after chance, He also speaks to His modern-day prodigals, encouraging them to "come home."    Our focal passage for this episode is Jeremiah 3:1-20, with 12-13 as the focal verses:    12 Therefore, go and give this message to Israel. This is what the Lord says: “O Israel, my faithless people,     come home to me again, for I am merciful.     I will not be angry with you forever. 13 Only acknowledge your guilt.     Admit that you rebelled against the Lord your God and committed adultery against him     by worshiping idols under every green tree. Confess that you refused to listen to my voice.     I, the Lord, have spoken!     WEEKLY ENGAGEMENT FEATURE:   Are you sensing the Lord saying to you: “Come home to me again”?   Additional Resources and Scriptures:   Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/encouragingothersinlovingjesus X - https://x.com/eoinlovingjesus?s=21&t=YcRjZQUpvP7FrJmm7Pe1hg INSTAGRAM -  https://www.instagram.com/encouragingothersinlovingjesus/ “Encouraging Others in Loving Jesus” YouTube Channel: Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@EncouragingOthersInLovingJesus   I WANT TO BEGIN A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.
