The Story of Rock and Roll: S7E19

S7E19 went out Live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 9 May 2024.  Winter is coming to Johannesburg so this show helped to warm up the airwaves.  We kicked off with Blackfoot of Tomcattin’ and a track called 'Gimme, Gimme, Gimme'.  From there on out it was all the rock and metal we could squeeze in from the last 55 years.
Continuing with Evolutions we took in a track off The Foo Fighters' second album The Color and The Shape.
Just to reiterate please NOTE that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music.  The problem with that is you just can’t get through the red tape and the shows get blocked due to the convoluted licencing structures.  You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens.  The TSORR website www.thestoryofrockandroll.com will always be able to help.  You can also always contact TSORR on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Reason to Believe’.  Bruce Springsteen and Arch Enemy did the honours.
Immortals this week came from Gary Moore and a track called 'Blood of Emeralds'.  It was tempting to give ‘Parisienne Walkways’ a go but traditionally we stay more obscure with immortals.  Maybe next time.
The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘S’.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had:

Scorpions – Love At First Sting
    Saxon – Wheels of Steel
    Seether – Gasoline
    Skid Row – Skid Row

We also had Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's Picks of the Week featuring birthday boy Joe Bonamassa and Spiritbox.

The Story of Rock and Roll: S7E18

S7E18 went out on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 2 May 2024.  It was nice to be back doing a live show and chatting to all the wonderful people on TSORR Central.  We kicked off with Metallica and ‘The Struggle Within’ and the rock didn’t stop for the next 3 hours.
This week we played the first track in a 10-week series called Evolution.  This was inspired by an article I read and a playlist that tracked the evolution of the Foo Fighters.  I will do a track per week and then we’ll do the Evolution of the next band after that.
Note that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down and forcing podcasters onto YouTube Music.  The problem with that, is you just can’t get through the red tape, and the shows get blocked due to the convoluted licencing structures.  You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens.  The TSORR website www.thestoryofrockandroll.com will always be able to help.  You can also always contact TSORR on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Rain’.  Once again, we had triplets, it turns out that The Cult, Dead City Ruins and Candlebox all had kids called ’Rain’.
Immortals this week came from Iron Maiden.  We listened to the title track off 1983’s Powerslave.  Adrian Smith told a great story about his guitar solo on the track which was worth retelling.
The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘R’.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had:
    Rammstein – Mutter
    Rush – Moving Pictures
The Rolling Stones – Voodoo Lounge
    Rodriguez – Cold Fact

Artists Featured: Metallica, Nazareth, ZZ Top, Alice Cooper, Dave Hause, Kickin’ Valentina, Thin Lizzy, ACDC, Slash feat Iggy Pop, Pebbleman, 12th Avenue, Pearl Jam, Accept, The Cult, Dead City Ruins, Candlebox, Theory of a Deadman, Buckcherry, Probot, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Live, Rob Halford, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Rush, The Rolling Stones, Rodriguez, Thundermother, Grand Funk Railroad, Megadeth, Exhorder, Halestorm, Zakk Wylde, Arch Enemy.

This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Heartbreaker’.  As happened last week we turned it into a Twisted Triplets with tracks called ‘Heartbreaker’.  Led Zeppelin, Motörhead, and Dirty Honey did the honours.
Immortals this week came from Bon Jovi off the Keep The Faith album.  Clocking in at 9:52 we listened to ‘Dry County’.

The Story of Rock and Roll: S7E16

S7E16 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 18 April 2024.  As always it was a mixed bag of new and old, heavy and not so heavy.  Listeners rated it the most fun ever.
Note that if you listen to TSORR on Google Podcasts they are shutting it down.  You can find us on plenty of other sites if this happens.  The TSORR website will always be able to help.
This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Bulletproof’.  We could have had Twisted Quintuplets as there were 5 different tracks with that name but we settled on a triplet.  Five Finger Death Punch, Sinner, and Paul Stanley.
Immortals this week came from Alter Bridge and the track was of course ‘Blackbird’.  Everything about it is perfect, from the way it builds all the way through to Tremonti’s masterful solo and Myles hitting all those high notes.
The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘P’.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had:

The Story of Rock and Roll: S7E15

S7E15 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 11 April 2024.     TSORR was on Myoli Beach in Sedgefield for this episode so the view was great.
This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Winter’.  We looked to a local band called Crash Car Burn for the first track and then went back to the amazing Goats Head Soup album for a Rolling Stones song called Winter.  It’s interesting to note that this is one of the few Rolling Stones that Keith Richard did not play on.  The song was written and recorded by the two Mick’s – Jagger and Taylor.
Immortals was courtesy of Avenged Sevenfold, the title track off The Stage, the last good album they made before they went mental and served up the biggest turd in the history of metal.  off the Born to Run album, we took a listen to ‘Jungleland’.  Springsteen is at his finest on this groundbreaking album but it’s Clarens Clemons’ sax solo that really makes it Immortal.
The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘O’.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had:
Oasis – What’s The Story Morning Glory

    The Offspring – Killboy Powerhead
Over Kill – The Grinding Wheel

The Story of Rock and Roll: S7E14

S7E14 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 4 April 2024.
This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Take It Off’.  The Donnas and Suicide Bombers did the honours.
Immortals, a track over 7 minutes showcasing an artist's brilliance, came off the Born to Run album.  It is a track called ‘Jungleland’.  Springsteen is at his finest on this groundbreaking album but it’s the late Clarens Clemons’ sax solo that really makes it special.  And the lyric!  Never forget the lyrics when it comes to The Boss.
The Fake Feud featured Pete Townshend and ACDC.   The new TSORR Newsletter # 3 is out, check out the website if you want to watch it or join the mailing list.
The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘M’.  The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one.  This week we had:
    Nirvana – Nevermind
    Night Ranger – Midnight Madness
    Nazareth – No mean City
    Neal Young – Freedom
The trick is to think about the whole album not just the track, it’s easy to forget that the whole of Nevermind is not Smells Like Teen Spirit 😊
Artists Featured: Those Damn Crows, Five Finger Death Punch, The Lazys, Sammy Hagar, Scorpions, Black Tide, Blue Öyster Cult, Clutch, Hammer Fall, Butch Walker, Supertramp, Megadeth, Metallica, Suicide Bombers, The Donnas, Trivium, My Chemical Romance, Judas Priest, Thunder Mother, Bruce Dickinson, Joel Hoekstra’s 13, The Clash, The Damned, The Stranglers, The Who ACDC, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Nirvana, Night Ranger, Nazareth, Neil Young, Annhilator, Testament, Electric 6, Palaye Royale, Claymorean, Sepultura, The Halo Effect.
