    The Formation of Tornadoes

    Welcome to my Podcast! In about two days’ time, it will have been exactly three years since I released the last episode of this geography Podcast… Nevertheless… in this episode, I will be looking at part of the A-Level Geography course, Hazardous Environments, specifically tornadoes and how they are formed. A tornado is a violently spinning column of upward moving air, which travels quickly across the land, at speeds of up to 300 km/h. Most tornadoes have a short lifespan, lasting several seconds to just over an hour. Do note that tornadoes are not considered large-scale atmospheric events as most are less than 80 meters in diameter, although they can be up to 3 kilometers across.

    Welcome to my Podcast! In about two days’ time, it will have been exactly three years since I released the last episode of this geography Podcast… Nevertheless… in this episode, I will be looking at part of the A-Level Geography course, Hazardous Environments, specifically tropical storms and how they are formed. Known as hurricanes in the North Atlantic, cyclones in the Indian Ocean and Typhoons in the East Pacific, Tropical Storms are large-scale atmospheric disturbances characterised by having low pressure (below 920 millibars), strong winds and a spiral arrangement of thunderstorms around a central cycle eye.
