#342 - Rob Zombie The Great Satan Album Review

“Wait a minute, is she your hall pass? Can we confirm that?”   Many folks in certain parts of the world have been calling the United States “The Great Satan” for decades, long before ROB ZOMBIE’s eighth studio album, THE GREAT SATAN, was called that.   “…and the first words out of her mouth when she pulls up: ‘Can I inspect your meat?’”   Released on 02/27/2026 on Nuclear Blast, the newest studio offering from ROB ZOMBIE, THE GREAT SATAN, has a much heavier, darker, and more aggro feel than past albums, and the album art, the album title, and the album sound all fit perfectly within the “haunted house motif” that has become part of his signature style and sound.   “There’s this thing called ‘consent’…”   Prepare for an accidental ADHD moment that took us down a rabbit hole into Mr. Zombie’s back catalog of albums and movies, always remember that “a rare steak is not cooked”, get ready for a big shoutout to Yelp, and find out what “PTO” actually stands for (and why you NEVER want to use it for that) when you JOIN US for a dive into the depths of hellbilly infused heavy metal brutality with ROB ZOMBIE and THE GREAT SATAN. #341 WRATHCHILD AMERICA - Climbin' The Walls

“He’s looking at me…”   Released on August 22, 1989, CLIMBIN’ THE WALLS, the major label debut album from Martinsburg, West Virginia thrash metal savants WRATHCHILD AMERICA, is undoubtedly one of the most uniquely profound thrash metal albums in all of heavy metal history to be crafted by one of the most extraordinarily talented (and criminally underrated) bands in the entire genre.    And to think, for many metalheads back in the day, their very first experience with this album was in a LIVE concert setting, opening for Testament. Just imagine how blessed one would be to see a band as unbelievable as WRATHCHILD AMERICA (for the very first time) opening for an established act like Testament and being completely blown away after just one show, having NEVER heard the album before getting to see them LIVE!    “He’s making eye contact…”   With a stylistic palette that blends thrash, heavy metal, and 70’s classic rock, there is absolutely NO ONE else in metal who sounds ANYTHING like them. And if you’re jonesing to purchase a copy of CLIMBIN’ THE WALLS, not to worry, because it was recently re-released (along with their second and final album, 3-D) as part of a two-CD package with a couple of bonus tracks.    “Is he still lookin’ at you?”   Get ready for a trip back through time to the days of yore, when thrash was still riding high and the opening band for Testament absolutely blew the minds of everyone in attendance when you JOIN US for one of the greatest and most underrated metal albums of all time with WRATHCHILD AMERICA: CLIMBIN’ THE WALLS.   (Also, just in case you might be wondering, there’s an early (we’re talking “6 years ago, during the Hodges Era” early: 02/20/2020) episode appropriately dubbed WRATHSAZ, which is a combo episode featuring both WRATHCHILD AMERICA and the darker, groovier, heavier incarnation that followed, Souls At Zero.)   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): “See? #340 ANTHRAX featuring JOHN BUSH, aka BUSHTHRAX

“If I hadn’t have known that was Anthrax, I would have guessed it was Alice In Chains…”   The early 90’s was a strange time for metal, most notably due to the change in the musical landscape with the emergence of the Seattle scene and Alice In Chains becoming one of the key crossover bands to bridge the transition from thrash to the next wave of darker, grungier sounding heavy metal.    “Every time you do that, I have a less chance of getting laid…”   While ANTHRAX began the 90’s with a much darker and angrier sound on Persistence of Time, the darkness and heaviness of their sound would become further amplified with the departure of Joey Belladonna and the addition of JOHN BUSH (formerly of Armored Saint) on vocals, resulting in a new era of Anthrax: BUSHTHRAX!    With more grit and heft in the vocals than before, the JOHN BUSH ERA of ANTHRAX is definitely a different flavor than the band’s output throughout the 80’s with Joey Belladonna, and with the changing of the guard in the early 90’s due to the growing popularity of the Seattle sound, the time was right for a slight alteration to the thrashier sounds of 80’s era ThrashThrax, resulting in the darker, more aggressive BUSHTHRAX era that would follow for the next decade or so.   “Alright, well it’s not like we’ve never done that for you before…”   Always remember that “springtime LSD is the best time for LSD” and that “it’s not as fun for me when I push away”. Realize that “girls with Doc Martens are kinda cute (except for when they wear ‘patrouli’)” and imagine what it’d be like “if we bled out of our dicks for a week” when you JOIN US for some 90’s era ANTHRAX featuring JOHN BUSH, aka BUSHTHRAX!!! #339 A TRILOGY OF PERFECT METAL ALBUMS

“That’s the buzz word: every time somebody says, ‘tipping point’, you must drink…”   Whether it’s measured by a string of commercially successful albums or one’s own personal preference, almost every metal band has (at a minimum) produced a TRILOGY of albums that represent a three-album run of back-to-back-to-back awesomeness.    “That’s the law, man…it’s gotta be three…rules is rules.”   Granted, we’re all very well aware that some bands have far exceeded such a phenomenal feat THRICE in a row. But to keep things fair, we limited our parameters to the perfect TRIFECTA of albums representing a band’s turkey, hat trick, or as we refer to it here at Bunkerpoon Palace, “the power threesome of perfection”.   “It’s a quadraplatic-ogy…”   When in doubt, remember that “y’all should be more like Paul” and keep in mind that you “can’t say that word!” because “all therapists are gonna be upset”.    Go ahead and fire up your “Grinder Tinder” account, discover the wonders of “self-service hibachi”, and get ready to “Ride the Puppets of Justice” when you JOIN US for A TRILOGY OF PERFECT METAL ALBUMS.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): “It’s a Quadraplaticogy…” / #tippingpoint / Russell’s Korean BBQ Reflections /  “So it’s like self-service hibachi…”/ “You leave the place with meat sweats…”/ #hoggin / “If you want to f**k up the meat…”/ Old restaurants that have gone away: On The Border, Rio Bravo, and Barnacles / “That’s where I met my wife, bro…”/ “That will never not be hilarious to me…”/ “How’s that shouldra?”   (4:55):  ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised *** / ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST IN THE DIGITAL BUNKERPOON UNDERGROUND!!!*** / “Have you hit your tipping point yet?” / “We got a great, fantabulous email to read…”/ ***EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com *** / “No, there’s no blah…you can’t yada, yada, yada…”/ #FuckTheSuits / “Wait, what?” / (Thank you, Paul!) / “Y’all should be more like Paul…” / #BeLikePaul / “We also got an email from Justin…” / #Crumbsuckers #AgnosticFront #Leeway #Whiplash #Voivod / “He also had a lot to say about #WrathchildAmerica (he’s a big fan) …”/ #recordscratch / “Can’t say that word!” / #PDF /  “All therapists are now gonna be upset…”/ #AgnosticFront HAPPENED YESTERDAY (Liberty And Justice For… - 1987) / “Dude, we’re like metal sommeliers…”   (14:14): ***PATREON US at patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast *** / “I might join our own Patreon just to get laid…it’s better than Grinder Tinder…”/ “That’s the buzz word: every time somebody says ‘Tipping Point’, you must drink…”/ NOTE: the first Agnostic Front album, Victim In Pain, was released in 1984… / ***EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com & SOCIAL MEDIA US at #metalnerderypodcast on #YouTube #TikTok #Facebook or #Instagram & VOICEMAIL US 980-666-8182!!!*** / “Whether it’s 5 or 5,000, you do the same show…”/ “I’ve got you on camera, talking in black face…” / #TyroneTaintler / “I did the voice…”/ “He has thoughts…”/ “Follow through…execute.”/ “I leave here needing to take a shower…”   (19:19): #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS: PERFECT TRILOGIES aka THREE ALBUM RUNS / TRIFECTAS / #era / “We got on this topic after talking about Flick of the Switch and the 3 albums that came before that…just back-to-back-to-back awesome.”/  #LedZeppelin (“You’re only picking 3?”) / “IV is #AtomicAcidBlues …” (24:32): “What about Maiden?” / #IronMaiden / “Number, Piece, and Power…”/ “We’re talking ‘in a row’…”/ “Somewhere In Time is the beginning of the next wave…”/ “There’s a line…”/ “Everybody’s got a magic window…” (26:39): #BlackSabbath / “To not include the first 6 is terrible…”/ #TheFirstSix / “Technically…I think Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is the line where they started to change…”/  “I’m hitting my tipping point just talking about it…” (28:32): “What about #Megadeth ?”/ “Talking about favorite 3 in a row…”/  ***EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com and TELL US YOUR FAVE 3 IN A ROW!!!*** /  #DIO / “I think that’s fair…” / “That’s a great song…”/ “What about Pantera?” /#PanterA / “Now this one’s hard…” / “From #CFH forward, not a bad one in the bunch…” (33:03): #Metallica / “Yeah I knew you would…so are you…”/ #RideThePuppetsOfJustice /  “Okay, speaking of seasoned…”/ #Slayer / “If I’m guessing, I bet I know everybody’s 3…”/   “Let’s go back in time a little bit…Floyd…and here’s why I bring up Floyd…”/ #PinkFloyd / “I like Animals…”/ #markthetime / “What about #TooL even?”   (37:37): “There’s no way to do this…it’s not gonna work…”/ #OzzyOsbourne / “That’s the law, man…it’s gotta be three.”/ “That was The Last In Line for Ozzy…”/ “I would have liked to have heard what the next would have been with Randy after Diary…”/ #Helmet / #KISS / “Awww, Dayum!” / “Was it though? #338 MEGADETH Album Review

“You know what I’m hearing? This sounds like it could have been…the sidepiece…to The Black Album…”   There’s almost a strange, sarcastic satisfaction in knowing that the new self-titled MEGADETH album will forever be known (at least in our neck of the woods anyway) as “The White Album”.    “Every time you keep talking, I just see shapes and letters…”   Released on January 23, 2026, MEGADETH is the 17th studio album from Dave Mustaine and Company and represents the final chapter in the 40+ year history of the angriest, snarliest, and most progressively technical thrash band of The Big Four.    And oh yeah, it debuted at NUMBER ONE on Billboard and at the top of the charts all over the world!!!   While MEGADETH represents the band’s epilogue, it contains all of the elements that have defined the band’s sound and the ethos of the genre that they co-created with the rest of The Big Four. All of the essentials are there: insanely technical riffs, face melting guitar solos, triumphant twin guitar harmonies, as well as some more straight ahead, laid back and accessible material that screams “radio friendly” without being dull or boring. If you’re a fan, you’ll dig it. And if you’re not a fan, who knows? You too may also dig it.   “Maybe it’s not pronounced ‘Tey-Muu’…it’s pronounced ‘Steve’.”   Always remember that “Rugby is a man’s sport that should be having grindcore bands playing the halftime show…” and that “You’re gonna paint secret little bushes like you paint secret little bushes… (and don’t you tell anybody).   Get ready for an apology from us regarding the last “White Album” review that we did, prepare for a never before heard “triple record scratch” (because we’re trying to stay out of trouble) and JOIN US for Dave & Vic’s swan song with MEGADETH.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast Show Notes: (00:01): ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised *** / #coffeewithdrawal / “That’s my drug of choice…”/ ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST!!!*** /  “It’s a ‘long cold’ now…”/ “Let’s be real…can we have a metal band play the #SuperBowl?”/ “You want me to use the word…can I use the word?” / “They pander…”/ “Rugby is a man’s sport. #Rugby should have #grindcore bands play their halftime show…”/ #FuckYouNFL /  #AmericanIdiot / “The s****y overhyped football show…”/ #FuckYouGrammys for leaving out #BrentHinds from the #InMemoriam / “Give them the minivan…2 in the front and 5 in the back…”/ “Some people need a pat on the back…”   (07:52): #FairUse / “If anything, we are helping people find out about these bands and these albums and this music…”/ “So you know what? #FuckYouRecordIndustry …today is #FuckYouDay …”/ Worst roller coaster ride ever / “Not only our sexy voices but our s****y faces too…”/ ***PATREON US at patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast *** / “Whooooooooo….” / #NewShittah #AtomicFreak TWO FACED WOMAN / “This is #ACDC from the 1970’s…”/ “One more…/ LIGHT THE FUSE / “Are we doing an album dive here?” / NUCLEAR MELTDOWN / “What if AC/DC kept recording with Bon Scott?” / #BonFest / “In the same vein…since we’re doing this…”/ #Airbourne TOO MUCH, TOO YOUNG, TOO FAST / “My CD player ate my #DreamTheater CD…”/ “Every time you keep talking, I just see shapes and letters…math equations…”   (22:13): #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS: MEGADETH (by MEGADETH) / 17th album by #Megadeth (and their first #1 album on #Billboard) / “It wasn’t you it was the door…”/ Released January 23, 2026 / “Yes…math and triangles…”/ “How’d you do that?”/ #vocalburnASMR / “It sounded like he had an effect pedal…”/ “He’s got #Elvis mouth…” / TIPPING POINT / “There’s some stuff on here I could almost hear on ‘Killing Is My Business…’”   (31:13): #skatepunkthrash / “Man, that #Coroner album though…you can’t have that helmet on…”/ “Have you seen the vinyl? #337 AC/DC FLICK OF THE SWITCH Album Review

Once you reach a certain level, there is no ‘better’…it’s different.”   Released on August 19, 1983, FLICK OF THE SWITCH (the 9th studio album by AC/DC and the 3rd featuring Brian Johnson on the mic) is what some fans might call their “White Album” (arriving after their “Black Album” and “Bronze Album”, respectively), showing a black and white grayscale drawing of a lone Angus pulling down some massive power, so to speak.   “That’s literally ‘Bad To The Bone’ and ‘In My Time Of Dying’…”   While self-produced by the band and containing a much rawer production and drier mix than the ultra-produced Mutt Lange masterpieces which came before it, FLICK OF THE SWITCH is a back-to-basics approach showing the band embracing more of their earlier blues based sound while still remaining faithful to the signature, high-energy, up-tempo jams which have become their calling card. It’s loud, straight ahead, and powerful, and while perhaps not as uber popular as the 3 albums that preceded it, FLICK is still very much an important album in the AC/DC catalog and one that would serve as a “connector” between where they had been and where they were headed.   “We could have a rated R show…it doesn’t have to be X…”   We’re finally back on track after getting derailed by the weather. Always remember to “wait ‘til it has some viscosity to it…” and then JOIN US for a “night time” dive into the album that would serve as the bridge into the next era of AC/DC with “The White Album” known as FLICK OF THE SWITCH.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on your favorite Podcast app Follow us on the Socials: Facebook - Instagram - TikTok Email: metalnerdery@gmail.com Can’t be LOUD Enough Playlist on Spotify Metal Nerdery Munchies on YouTube @metalnerderypodcast More ACDC Episodes: https://www.metalnerdery.com/acdc   Show Notes: (00:01): #selfconsciousness / “Hold on…you don’t know what you’re asking for…”/ #darkcomedy / “It’s kinda like…being in a cover band and having you guys show up when we play #POISON…”/ #carriesunderwear / “I need a rage truck…”/ “I like doing it…it’s fun…”/ “A little bit…only if you push back…”/ ***WARNING: #listenerdiscretionisadvised ***/  “Synching up…locking in…”/ ***WELCOME BACK TO THE METAL NERDERY PODCAST (NIGHT TIME EDITION) ***/ #coveryourmouth / “I’m building up my immunity system…”/ “It could have been me…”/ #AIDSFlu / “It takes a flu nap is what you’re saying…”/ #homemadelube / “Wait til it has some viscosity to it…” (05:55): EMAIL US at metalnerdery@gmail.com & PATREON US at patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast / #HailToTheBenton / “Dude, the Hog Story is worth the price of admission…”/ “Oh yeah…when we get done…I need to show you guys something…”/ “It’s like zazz and zhuzh…”/ #NWOOSTM / “Here’s what I hate about Marshalls…”/ #Traitor REACTOR IV (Venomizer – 2016) / #1986 / #incomplete /  “You know what dude, that’s the best #BackstreetBoys song…”/ #Enmy – LEDGE / #melody / “It’s the hard stop…and then super soft…”/ #markthetime / “I wasn’t expecting to like that…”/ “No Slayer of the Episode?”/ #anush #penish / #SlayerOfTheEpisode / #Slayer HALLOWED POINT (Seasons In The Abyss – 1990) / “And just like that…all is right in the world…”/ “It’s all 7’s…” (22:47): #TheDocket METAL NERDERY PODCAST PRESENTS:  AC/DC – FLICK OF THE SWITCH / #ACDC #TheWhiteAlbum / “I don’t remember being 10 and listening to AC/DC…” “It’s black and white in grayscale…”/ Released August 19, 1983 / “Doing AC/DC always takes me back to childhood…”/ “In the For…Flick…Fly category, Flick is in the middle there…” / “It’s 3-D and you can feel the texture…”/ Recorded in Nassau, The Bahamas with Robert John “Mutt” Lange / “He’s the Bob Rock of the 80’s…”/ “Their sound is menopause…”/ RISING POWER / “I feel like it was a little slow to start…”/ “#Pyromania btw was January 20 (1983)…”/ “I don’t know what that is: a desert vagina kinda…”/ THIS HOUSE IS ON FIRE / “They should have swapped those two…”/ “Mega ultra mother f*****g super stardom…” (33:23): FLICK OF THE SWITCH / “I think every band has a ‘connector’ album…”/ “That’s a good episode…3 albums in a row…”/ “Use penal clean…”/ NERVOUS SHAKEDOWN “Two words…slower and sleazier…”/ “You know what the leading cause of death is for nymphomaniacs is?”/ “We could have a Rated R show…it doesn’t have to be X…”/ #killercloser / LANDSLIDE / “What a great closer for Side 1…”/ “That riff…reminded me of this…”/ PLAYING WITH GIRLS (Fly On The Wall – 1985) / “I try to hold this thing together…” (38:38): GUNS FOR HIRE / “Turn this up to loud…” / “Once you reach a certain level, there is no ‘better’…it’s just different.”/ DEEP IN THE HOLE / “I’m over A.I…”/  “I cup the balls, I go all the way…”   (45:34): BEDLAM IN BELGIUM / “Side 2 better than Side 1…” / “It’s really close to ‘Fly On The Wall’…” / BADLANDS / “That’s literally ‘Bad To The Bone’ and ‘In My Time Of Dying’…”/ “I feel like he does that in the studio…”/ SG vs Les Paul / #markthetime / BRAINSHAKE / #killercloser / “That sounds like an AC/DC closer…”/ “It’s only 8 minutes longer than Reign In Blood…”/ “It sounds like a good bridge to ‘Fly On The Wall’…”/ “It’s the bridge between the old and the next…”/ Bands with great 3-album runs / THANK YOU FOR JOINING US!!!/ #untilthenext #outroreel

#336 Part 2 - HEAVY METAL HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

“Flat earth is just a troll thing, right? People don’t really believe that…”   Picking up right where we left off on our previous HEAVY METAL HIGH SCHOOL REUNION episode with even more stories of metal nostalgia and teenage retardity as we reflect on the pressing issues of the day during our high school residency.    “The bathrooms are over there, Everest is over there, and you’ve gotta be this high to ride the ride…”   From the discovery journeys that led us to our favorite bands to the band that was considered “the next level of ‘Shout At The Devil’”, we go further down the rabbit hole and assess how the 70’s factored into our respective musical paths as well as uncover a potentially jarring shortlist of metal (and non-metal) bands that were hugely popular that we just didn’t (and/or couldn’t) connect with.   “…AKA The Flat Earth Emporium.”   Find out what it’s like to enjoy “a little Mr. Black with some Elijah Craig on top”, discover why having hellions for children means “they’re gonna be good prayerents when they get older”, understand that sometimes you’re just not “mature enough to appreciate Reign In Blood” (especially if you “didn’t have enough pubes to handle it”), and realize that flat earth people can be a great resource for discovering new music when you JOIN US for ROUND 2 of the HEAVY METAL HIGH SCHOOL REUNION BUNKERPOON BLOWOUT BONANZA!!! #335 HEAVY METAL HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

“Forbidden and Death Angel at the Center Stage was my 2nd thrash show…”   Imagine learning about all of the latest and greatest metal bands without the help of Spotify or the internet. Back in THE METAL DAYS OF YORE, it was all about social networking (sans social media) and getting dubbed cassettes from your friends (or forming your own metal band with those friends) that helped you on your way towards finding the greatest and most obscure thrash and metal that you were looking for.   “I almost got my ass kicked by a bunch of guys in make-up…”   It’s time for a HEAVY METAL HIGH SCHOOL REUNION in The Bunkerpoon because we’ve got a very special guest with us and we’re talking all about the glory days of our metal youth. From our first thrash and arena rock shows to our first band experiences, to all of the bands we got into back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, this episode will feel like a trip back in time.   “The only one of us that should have their t**s out is probably Bill…”   To everyone who attended (or skipped) high school during 1987 to 1992 (or thereabouts), and anyone who wonders what that experience must have been like, we invite you to JOIN US in The Bunkerpoon Lounge as we wax nostalgic about “the good old days” of ancient metal venues, early concerts, and our favorite bands and albums from our teen years with our very own HEAVY METAL HIGH SCHOOL REUNION.
