    Councillors on the spot at well attended Town Meeting

    Around 150 people attended the Town Meeting on 2 March to hear from the Council's five committees - Finance, Sport Recreation and Environment, Public Halls, Festival Hall Development and the Planning Committee (as the Town council comments on all applications the Planning Authorities consult on.) Projects reported on were the £400k Council chamber upgrade, £255k on the Heath toilets, £283k for new lights rigging on the Festival Hall stage, £140k on the Penns playground and £55k on The Avenue tennis courts. Lots of information was provided and Rochelle Halliday the Town Clerk, said it will all appear in the Council's Annual Report which will be available shortly. We also hear from Robin Davison, the newly appointed Deputy Town Clerk. The Mayor's charities this year - Winton House and the Scouts - made presentations about their work. The South Downs National Park also spoke about the excellent working relationship with the Town Council. The park has 18.8m visitors overall and they gave details of the £800k town focused spending (from the section 106 levy on new buildings) which had been spent on, for example, the play area, signage, CCTV and the pond. Part of another fund - the Community Infrastructure Levy  - has also allocated £250,000 allocated to the Council. Audience members had a few 'back and forths' with councillors about some things - the full costs of the Festival Hall work, trees being removed and not replaced, planning discussions but not involving local people. The Mayor made awards for 'service to Petersfield' to Jenny Tickner from Winton House, Jenny Cummings from Home Start Butser, Jen King from the Free Shop, Jordan Beech from the Friends of the Heath, John Wade-Palmer from the Physic garden and Steve Field for Agencies Working Together.     Petersfield Rugby Club are running out of games as they try to sneak into 5th place and earn a chance at the end of season promotion play-offs. In a game they would be expected to win, they host Reeds Weybridge but the game is a much tighter affair than they would hope for.  https://www.petersfieldrfc.club/ . Petersfield the Rams mens team have quite the busy week. Firstly on Tuesday, they have a Seniors cup tie against high-flying Locks Heath and then Saturday saw them welcome Brockenhurst. We have interviews with new coach Rich Bessey (and revelations of the worst penalty ever taken) and we hear from the directors 6 weeks on from parting with their coach and the subsequent player exodus. https://www.petersfieldtownfc.co.uk/ . The outstanding womens rams side finally resumed league football and faced a rare challenge from Cowplain. Would they respond after going into half time 2-3 down. In hockey, the women's side had itself a postponed game, but Romsey arrived at Bedales to take on our men's first side in a closely fought match.     Fabulous fashion, fun and fundraising success for Petersfield Save the Children

    The annual fashion show and sale for Petersfield Save the Children at Churcher's College on 16 February (where the price of sold items is shared 50:50)  was packed out and raised a huge amount for the cause.  Jane Rebeiro, one of the 50 or so volunteers who organise and run the event, spoke to Mike Waddington about the sale; what it entails and the great success it brought for Save the Children. Their next venture is on 16 April at St Peter's church where local Rock Choirs will perform at a free event with a retiring collection for them.     Film students from Portsmouth are in the challenge to make a film - that is script it, act it, film it and edit it - within 48 hours. The chose Petersfield Museum as the location for their Pirate caper.
