Rejection Is Proof You’re an Actor

Welcome to The Aligned Actor Podcast! I’m Amy Schloerb, your friendly fellow actor and mindset coach. This is the podcast were I offer practical mindfulness tools and mindset shifts to help us all thrive in our full actor lives. Actor Life is a roller coaster full of ups, downs, twist, turns, and sometimes full on loop-de-loops and the only way we will survive in this profession long-term is if we take care of ourselves and find effective ways to handle all the stress that the entertainment industry throws our way. It’s time for your weekly roundup of 100 Days of Yapping aka “Amy Yaps About Actor Mindset!” Today I have Day 22 through Day 28 for you. In the videos I talk about… * My free guided meditation that can help you get out of your head and rock your next audition. * How rejection is just proof that you are an actor and go on to list some big, huge actors that have been rejected from roles. * One of my favorite calming breath techniques, the double inhale with a long slow exhale and how it can help you calm your nerves before a big scene. * The fact that rejection, uncertainty, and unpredictable urgency are present throughout our careers, and there’s no way to “make it” to a point that those side effects are eliminated. * How we need to stop explaining ourselves to people who are outside the entertainment industry because they are never going to understand us as actors and we are just wasting our precious energy. * The time that Sandra Bullock was declared “worst actress” and then “best actress” the very next night, thus proving that we will never get to a level in our careers where we don’t have to deal with rejection. * The little mind trick I use to fill the “silence” that exists after I submit a self tape. So without further ado, please enjoy! It’s time for your weekly roundup of 100 Days of Yapping aka “Amy Yaps About Actor Mindset!” Today I have Day 15 through Day 21 for you (I’m 1/5th of the way through! Hooray! Go me!). In the videos I talk about… * How I became SAG eligible within about a month of moving to LA, which just goes to show you that ANYTHING is possible in this business. * The importance of living your full, human life and how it will help you as an actor. * Viewing our careers through the lens of mindfulness, so that we can see them with more kindness and curiosity instead of judgment. * A very simple way to calm your nerves before an audition. * Passing on a Ryan Murphy project and how it was hard, but the right decision for me at the time. * How hard it is to send self tapes off into the void and never hear anything back, BUT that mindfulness has helped me let go and move on like nothing else. * A super simple mindfulness practice to help you soothe and fortify your nervous system so you can handle whatever the entertainment industry throws your way. So without further ado, please enjoy! More Actor Yapping! Days 8-14, baby!

Welcome to The Aligned Actor Podcast! I’m Amy Schloerb, your friendly fellow actor and mindset coach. This is the podcast were I offer practical mindfulness tools and mindset shifts to help us all thrive in our full actor lives. Actor Life is a roller coaster full of ups, downs, twist, turns, and sometimes full on loop-de-loops and the only way we will survive this profession long-term is if we take care of ourselves and find effective ways to handle all the stress that the entertainment industry throws our way. It’s time for your weekly roundup of 100 Days of Yapping aka “Amy Yaps About Actor Mindset!” Today I have Day 8 through Day 14 for you. And yes, I’m still having a lot of fun and learning a ton about how to get my ideas across simply and clearly. In the videos I talk about… * A little BTS of the challenge and how it’s getting hard, but I’m navigating that with some strategies (here’s the book that I mention — The War of Art by Steven Pressfield). * The fact that I always get startled by audition requests, and that’s a normal human reaction. * How I calm my nervous system back down after it gets activated by an audition request so that I can actually do the self tape. * The fact that we are always actors no matter how often or not we are booking. I believe that this is the foundation of a strong actor mindset. * The fact that it takes a lot of energy to be an actor and so we need to be taking care of ourselves as humans. * How hard it is to deal with the uncertainty of the entertainment industry and how mindfulness helps me get comfortable with that feeling. * Reconnecting to the version of you that decided “I’m gonna be an actor” because they had a really strong “why” that fuel their actor spark. So without further ado, please enjoy! Introducing 100 Days of Actor Yapping

Turns out there are less than 100 days left in 2026. I know, right? 🤪 And also, the delightful Dave Holmes is running a 100 Days event to help us all “wring some goodness out of the last hundred days of this mother of a year.” You can find a new article daily over on his publication, Cocksure. For my 100 days, I am choosing to build a habit. I am going to post one “yappy” video a day on Instagram talking about actor mindset. It’s HIGH time I started actually sharing all my ideas and tips and tricks instead of hoarding them all for myself. So far I’ve posted 8 videos (only 92 to go! 🥳) and I’m having a lot of fun. I’m also starting to feel the stress of change that can happen when the novelty of a habit wears off and my brain starts going, “Oh, we’re really making this change? Wait, change in scary!” But I told myself going into this that it’s just a daily practice. That’s the entire goal. It doesn’t matter if the videos are messy or don’t get a lot of views. The point is to post and play around and experiment and see how I grow and change and improve my communication skills through short videos. I decided to share the videos here on The Aligned Actor Podcast so if you missed them on Instagram, you still get to enjoy them. Today, I have days one through seven for you. In them I talk about… * Starting the challenge * How I became an actor * My podcast (don’t get confused at that part because I do the opening of this podcast, so you might think my editing went weird suddenly, but stick with it!) * The way the entertainment industry wreaks havoc on actor nervous systems * The story of the time I got dropped by an agent * How I overcame a bad audition habit I had * My career and life motto, ABC: Always Be Celebrating So without further ado, please enjoy! In this clip we discuss the physical energy that it takes to be an actor playing a character and how we can care for ourselves within our work. We talk about what do do with the extra energy of the post show high and the idea of “casting off” the character so that we don’t continue to carry their emotions with us. Getting Out Of Our Own Way

We’re back with even more from my conversation with Brian Zane! In this clip we discuss the ways we get in our own way as actors. Brian references an episode of his podcast where he talked about how self-consciousness can come up while we’re acting, and I share a trick I’ve been using to stay focused in auditions. We also talk about how powerful self-acknowledgement can be for actors, and why it’s important to allow ourselves to feel disappointed sometimes. Talking Shop With Fellow Actor and Podcaster Brian Zane

Today I want to introduce you to Brian Zane. Brian is an actor, an acting teacher and the host of The Actor’s Nervous System, which is an amazing podcast you can get wherever you like to get your podcasts. Brian and I sat down for an interview on his podcast and he was generous enough to share the footage of that discussion with me so that I could share it on The Aligned Actor Podcast. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing selected clips from that full episode. In this clip we discuss how we became interested in our respective fields, mindfulness and nervous system work, and why we decided to create our podcasts.
