The NBA Just Changed Sports Betting — Are the New Rules Going Too Far?

Question of the Week The NBA is cracking down on sports betting, introducing new restrictions on several types of player props and parlays that the league believes are particularly vulnerable to manipulation. Among the changes: restrictions on same-player under parlays, unders involving players expected to play limited minutes, first-basket and other “first event” bets, wagers on players missing specific shots and certain alternate under lines. But are these changes actually good for basketball? We break down the NBA’s new sports betting rules and debate where the league should draw the line between protecting the integrity of the game and taking away some of what makes casual sports betting entertaining. Some restrictions make a lot of sense. Bets that could create an incentive for a player to intentionally underperform — especially obscure unders involving players with extremely limited roles — create obvious integrity concerns. At the same time, gambling for most fans is supposed to be entertainment. Whether you’re at the arena or watching from home, throwing a few dollars on a prop or parlay can add another layer to the experience. So the real question becomes: How far should the NBA go? Are these smart safeguards for the future of the league, or is the NBA starting down a path toward taking too many betting options away from fans? Can Caitlin Clark & the Fever EVER Win a Title? How The Fever and The Lynx Must Fix Their Rosters

Question of the Week Hot take: the Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx may never win a WNBA championship with their current formulas. After another disappointing playoff exit, both teams have big questions to answer this offseason — but their solutions look very different. For Minnesota, the answer isn’t to blow things up around Napheesa Collier and Olivia Miles. The Lynx need to get bigger, tougher and more physical. Losing the defensive versatility and size they previously had in players like Alanna Smith exposed a weakness against elite frontcourts. We discuss why Minnesota should trust Miles’ development, retain its core and prioritize a big who can protect the rim, switch defensively and free Phee to wreak havoc elsewhere. Then we get into the much more controversial conversation: Should the Indiana Fever take some point guard responsibilities away from Caitlin Clark? Clark is already one of the WNBA’s most dynamic offensive players, but a massive usage rate and high turnover volume raise an important question: Does Indiana become more dangerous if Clark doesn’t have to initiate everything? We break down why adding a secondary playmaker or point forward could unlock Clark as a relocation shooter, cutter and screener — similar to how Golden State maximized Stephen Curry’s gravity without requiring him to dominate the ball every possession. And with Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston already providing elite offensive weapons, Indiana may not need Caitlin Clark to do everything for the Fever to contend for a championship. What should the Lynx and Fever change this offseason — and which team is closer to winning a WNBA title?
