    DawgmanRadio: Day 13 was what we thought it was going to be

    The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - were on hand for a shortened Washington practice, one we anticipated because the Huskies are going to be playing a lot Saturday night during their Mock Game. The mock game, which starts at 6:30 pm inside Husky Stadium, will be the last chance UW fans will get to watch the team in person before they line up for their season opener against Washington State on Sunday, Sept. 6. And remember, the Fan Fest starts at 4:30, so bring your family! We're not sure whether or not the players and coaches will be there to sign autographs and take pictures before the game or after that game - we've heard both - so be there just to make sure. And the traffic, with 405 closures and the Mariners game too - isn't going to be great, so plan ahead. What did Kim and Chris see during Friday's workout? Basically what they thought they would, including a lot of clean up work and periods dedicated strictly to special teams. But there were definitely some other things of note to talk about, including the effect of the NCAA's successful appeal and what that meant for Grady Gross and Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei. The story for those two is far from over. And there was a great sequence at the very end of practice involving Defensive Line Quality Control Coach Korey Rush, Darin Conley, and a reward handed out by Jedd Fisch. You'll have to listen in to get the full story, but it's a good one!

    DawgmanRadio: Day 12 observations and a look ahead to the Mock Game

    The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - were at Thursday's practice number 12 for the Washington Huskies, and there was a lot to talk about on both sides of the ball there. With many of their starters being wrapped in cotton wool in the meantime, that gave a lot of other players opportunities to step up, and they did. And interestingly enough, Scott thought the offense got the better of the defense while Chris thought it was the other way around. Why? Starting with the offense, the guys talked through the players that stood out to them, what their pecking order might look like heading into game one against Washington State on Sept 6, and then moved to the defense to talk about the players that impressed them on that side of the ball. And this is the last time the three will see the Huskies practice together before Saturday's Mock Game; what are they expecting on Saturday? And almost as important - who are they expecting to see play on Saturday night?

    DawgmanRadio: Day 11 sees a lot of competitive periods inside Husky Stadium

    The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - had things to say about day 11 of Washington's fall camp practice, one that looked like it was going to be a carbon copy of Tuesday's workout on the east field, but then the team ran into Husky Stadium and that's when things got interesting. The music got cranked, they inserted a ton of crowd noise as well, and it became a Tylenol Special. If it was done to induce headaches for all the players, it worked. The competitive periods were geared a little bit toward the offense in terms of where they started their drives on the field and also due to the fact that they were playing at 'thud' tempo, meaning just short of full speed without contact taking ballcarriers to the ground. Before talking about the offensive players that stood out, Kim and Chris gave their thoughts on Washington's newest roster inclusion, former placekicker Grady Gross. The same Colorado-based court decision that allowed DL Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei to return to Montlake also gave Gross an opportunity to come back and kick for the Purple and Gold. But what does that mean for Tyler Robles? What does it mean in terms of who will kick the ball off now for the Huskies? After that, it was all about the final competitive team periods, which went roughly 80 plays. Who stood out, especially at receiver? Who participated that hadn't up to that point? Who stayed out of the periods? The guys talk about all of those things, and more. They also preview the upcoming practices and which ones the fans should see ahead of Saturday night's Mock Game inside Husky Stadium.

    DawgmanRadio: Day 10 begins the real Dawg Days of training camp

    The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - dissect what they saw on day 10 of UW fall training camp, and also what needs to happen for certain players that have been held out and what they need to do to show that they're ready to go. You're starting to get to that stage in camp where coaches are going to have to start making decisions. Special Teams Coordinator Chris Petrilli said by the end of the week he'll have a much better idea of who they will be targeting as their returners. The same thing will be happening on both sides of the ball. Kim and Chris go through the positions, starting first on the offensive side of the ball and then the defense, talking about the players that have emerged, the players that have been held out, and where the position battles need to be joined before the Huskies really get after their Apple Cup preparations starting next week.

    Scott Eklund Joins the Mac and Mounger Show for a UW Football Draft Challenge

    The Mac and Mounger Show brought a guest to this week's episode, inviting the expertise of Dawgman's very own Scott Eklund. The mission for this episode was simple, yet challenging: draft the best team possible using the current Washington Husky Football roster. The trio picked their teams using a snake draft format. Each individual had to draft one running back, one receiver, one tight end, two offensive linemen, and a flex player on the offensive side of the ball. For defense, team's were filled out with one defensive tackle, one edge player, one linebacker, one cornerback, one safety, and a defensive flex player. Is the best strategy to take the best player available? Or should one target a position of limited depth to make sure their advantage at that spot is substantial? Listen along as Jack, Luke, and Scott think through these questions live, justify their answers, and fill out their rosters. Also, let us know in the comments who you think drafted the best team of the group.

    DawgmanRadio: A big chat about Washington's first big scrimmage

    The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - gathered around the microphone Saturday night after Washington's 125-play scrimmage to talk about the things they loved and the things that need work. And there was plenty to talk about on both scores. To start the podcast, the guys went down the list of the players that did not participate in the scrimmage. Every player, minus CJ Christian and Jordan Washington , suited up and went through the pre-scrimmage warmup, but then that's when a number of them went to the east field to do individual workouts and conditioning drills. But when it came to the players that did stand out, there were a number on both sides of the ball. We started on the offensive side, and then moved over to the defense. We also got to see the punters for an extended period, and also got to see Tyler Robles go 2-3 on field goal attempts on the night. Near the end of the podcast, the guys talked about safety Rylon Dillard-Allen, the play that resulted in him getting bounced from a live period and then what UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch said about RDA after practice. It was pretty interesting stuff. They finish the scrimmage recap with some final thoughts, some things that maybe didn't go that well to balance out all the positives that took place Saturday night, and then what the fall camp schedule looks like for next week. And after next Saturday's Mock Game, the media will not be allowed to watch practice.

    DawgmanRadio: Huskies set the stage for Saturday's big scrimmage

    The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - sat through day seven of fall training camp, which ended up being part clean up work, part special teams focus, and more competitive work as the Washington players honed in on their first big scrimmage of fall, set to start at 5:45 pm Saturday night inside Husky Stadium. But before the scrimmage, the guys talked about what they saw, who was back in the mix as far as the cleanup work was concerned, who was still held out for more conditioning, and everything else the team did before practice finished roughly 150 minutes after it started.  Scott offered up a quick recruiting update, including how having the Apple Cup on a Sunday is going to help UW bring in a lot of visitors for that particular game.  To finish up the podcast, the guys talked about what they expect to see from Saturday's first big scrimmage.

    DawgmanRadio: Day 6 continues the ramp-up to UW's first scrimmage of fall

    The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - were on hand Thursday for day six of Washington's fall training camp, and we're at the point now in camp where the days start to bleed into one another and you not only lose track of what day of fall camp it is, but also what day of the week it is. The easiest way to remember is that we're just two days away from Washington's first big scrimmage of fall, which will take place Saturday night (5:45 pm) inside Husky Stadium. Hopefully a ton of UW fans will be able to make it. Today's practice was very much in service of that upcoming scrimmage. There was more competitive periods inside Husky Stadium, and we got to see the first 'live' snaps taken by the Huskies so far this fall, meaning defenders could take the ballcarriers to the ground. Kim and Chris talked about the players that weren't able to participate in those team periods, some that were finally let off the leash a little bit, and others that stepped up to the challenge and made plays. On offense, Kim thought Christian Moss was his standout player, while Justice Williams made the play of the day. Chris thought Gavin Day was the standout player for a goal-line interception and fumble recovery. And finally they wrapped up the practice review with an appreciation of transfer kicker Tyler Robles. The former Texas State star went 8-8 on his kicks to finish practice, including the last two 'fire drill' kicks where the whole kicking unit had to rush from the sidelines, get in formation and quickly kick the ball because they were unable to stop the clock. They went 2-2 during the 'fire drill' kicks.
