    ANITA RAU BADAMI + MATTHEW REID + MUNDY MCLAUGHLIN

    On the Saturday September 12 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we’ll meet best-selling author Anita Rau Badami. an acclaimed Indian-Canadian novelist whose work explores family bonds, cultural identity, and the immigrant experience spanning India and Canada.  She moved to Canada in 1991 and is best known for novels including the bestselling Tamarind Mem, the award-winning The Hero’s Walk, Can You Hear the Nightbird Call?, and Tell It to the Trees.  A recipient of the Marian Engel Award, she lives in Montreal, which is the backdrop for her latest novel Asha In Her Garden. It’s the story of Asha Mohan, an Indian immigrant in Montreal whose backyard garden (shaded by a beloved old maple tree) has long been her personal sanctuary amid family struggles and daily life.  As the aging tree must finally be cut down, Asha reflects on a violent incident from twenty years earlier, an earlier tragedy in India that prompted her family’s move to Canada, and the complexities of her relationships, finding new clarity about her life. Then we’ll meet meet award-winning composer, sound designer, and classical music provocateur Matthew Reid. Best known for a decade as music director and composer for The Second City, he has created scores for film, television, theatre, games, and live performance. His ambitious piano cycle Moods of Limited Transposition explores emotion through innovative harmonic language across a planned 36 short works. Finally, we spend some time with Mundy McLaughlin, a Canadian author, former labour and human rights lawyer, and artist. Her debut novel, Blue Life, is a coming-of-age story set against the vibrant, gritty art, punk, and club scenes of late-1970s New York City and New Jersey.

His credits include writing and directing the cult LGBT thriller “Pornography: A Thriller,” editing the acclaimed director’s cut of “54,” and serving as lead editor and co-executive producer on Shudder’s award-winning series “Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror.” Today we’ll talk about his feature documentary “Boorman and the Devil,” about John Boorman and the making of “Exorcist II: The Heretic,” premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

    ALISON ELWOOD + EDWARD CHISHOLM

    On the Saturday August 1, 2026 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we’ll meet award-winning documentary filmmaker, director, producer, and editor Alison Elwood. Her standout music documentaries include the Emmy-nominated "Laurel Canyon: A Place in Time," the Critics’ Choice Award-winning "The Go-Go’s," "Let the Canary Sing" about Cyndi Lauper, and the acclaimed History of the Eagles. Her latest film is "Boy George & Culture Club." Then, we’ll meet writer, screenwriter, and copywriter Edward Chisholm. His new book, “Murder in Paris ’68,” is a work of narrative non-fiction that dives into the unsolved murder of Stevan Markovic, the Serbian bodyguard and associate of French film star Alain Delon. It was an immense scandal at the time, and Edward’s book captures the whole story.

    ANDREW BARR + DON LEVERS

    On the Saturday August 8, 2026 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we meet stand-up comedian Andrew Barr. A recovering addict who turned his struggles into powerful, hilarious material, Barr has built a reputation for fearlessly tackling tough topics like addiction, sobriety, and everyday absurdities in a way that connects with audiences. Today we talk about his comedy special ”Andrew Barr Goes Nowhere,” streaming globally on YouTube in partnership with ComedyBarMAX. The premise of the special is unusual: Barr ran continuously on a treadmill for 12 hours straight—covering exactly 104 kilometers (the equivalent of two and a half back-to-back marathons) and burning over 7,000 calories—before immediately stepping off the machine to deliver a live, hour-long stand-up comedy performance. Beyond the grueling physical challenge, the 12-hour feat carried profound personal significance and we’ll talk about that in this interview. Then, we meet Don Levers, a Vancouver-born author who dives deep into one of Canada’s most audacious and mysterious crimes inn his new book "The (Almost) Perfect Heist: The Incredible True Story of the Vancouver Safety Deposit Robbery.”   What began as research for a novel became a years-long investigation into a bold caper involving seasoned criminals, an impenetrable vault, and millions in unrecovered loot. Part true-crime thriller, part investigative memoir, this book explores how close the thieves came to pulling off the perfect crime — and why so many questions still remain decades later.

    PETE FERRIERO + JAKE DAVID SMITH

    On the Saturday August 8, 2026 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we’ll meet filmmaker, director, producer, and podcast host Pete Ferriero. Pete gained recognition for his documentaries The Price of Fame (about wrestling legend Ted DiBiase) and Her Name Is Chef (streaming on Hulu), which was praised by Padma Lakshmi for spotlighting women in the culinary world. He’s also the creator and host of the popular Beverly Hills, 90210 Show podcast, where he dives deep into the iconic series alongside its original producers and cast. His latest project, the feature documentary The Best Pizza is in LA, makes the bold case that Los Angeles is home to the world’s best pizza — complete with celebrity chefs and unforgettable pie tours. Then we meet Jake David Smith, a Broadway and national-tour musical theatre veteran. who made his Broadway debut in Disney’s Frozen, starred as Marius on the national tour of Les Misérables, and originated Prince Oliver in the Off-Broadway (and Amazon Prime) production of Between the Lines. Today we talk about his career and playing Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby, a extravaganza that Entertainment Weekly said explodes with life and energy. It’s playing at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto until August 23.

    JESS GIBSON + DIVINE BROWN

    On the Saturday August 1, 2026 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we’ll meet Jess Gibson. She is a Canadian-born writer (daughter of Margaret Atwood and the late Graeme Gibson), art historian with a Yale PhD, who has lived all over the world. Her first book “The Good Eye” is already generating buzz as a sharp, original, and “bewitching” debut. The stories explore themes like perception vs. reality, the limits of what we “see,” betrayal, revenge, and everyday life tilting into the strange or magical. Then, we meet Juno Award-winning R&B/soul singer, actress Divine Brown. She broke through in 2005 with the hit single "Old Skool Love", which topped Canadian radio charts and earned a SOCAN No. 1 Song Award. Her self-titled debut album followed as an underground success, and her second album, The Love Chronicles (2008), won the Juno Award for Best R&B/Soul Album of the Year. She has toured with the Backstreet Boys, contributed vocals to Drake’s Take Care, and can now be seen in staged concert The Secret Chord: A Leonard Cohen Experience, playing at the CAA Theatre on Yonge Street in Toronto until August 16, 2026.

    ANTIDIVA: CAROLE POPE + MICHELLE MAMA

    On the Saturday July 18, 2026 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we spend the hour with with director Michelle Mama, and the subject of her new film, music icon, provocateur, queer trailblazer and Rough Trade singer Carole Pope. The documentary is “Antidiva: The Carole Pope Confessions,” a new, raw, rollicking look at the underground scene of the 1970s that spawned the band and how Carole Pope’s incendiary lyrics and magnetic presence shattered expectations of what a woman could be onstage. Today we’ll talk about the movie, which will be hitting select Canadian theatres this summer and premiere on the Documentary Channel, Sunday, July 19, and on CBC Gem Friday, July 24. We’ll explore Carole Pope’s edgy artistry and find out why she doesn’t have to try and bring a dangerous feel to her work these days… here’s a hint, it never went away.

    LINUS O'BRIEN + PATRICK RADDEN KEEF

    On the Saturday July 11, 2026 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we’ll meet Linus O’Brien, director of “Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror,” a documentary celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The Rocky Horror Show” and its creator, and Linus’s father, Richard O’Brien. The documentary, which is available now on Digital HD including Apple TV and Prime Video, tracks Rocky Horror’s humble beginnings as a 1973 London fringe theatre play, its subsequent flop on Broadway, its adaptation into the 1975 feature film, and its eventual resurrection via the midnight movie circuit. With interviews with creator Richard O'Brien and original cast members like Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick, alongside commentary from high-profile celebrity fans like Jack Black and Trixie Mattel, it is the most complete look at the Rocky Horror phenomenon to date. Then, we’ll meet longtime staff writer at The New Yorker, Patrick Radden Keefe. He’s earned a reputation for transforming complex, high-stakes stories of power, secrecy, crime, and corruption into gripping, cinematic page-turners that read like thrillers while maintaining rigorous factual depth. Today we’ll talk about his new book, “London Falling: A Mysterious Death in a Gilded City and a Family's Search for Truth,” the gripping true story of 19-year-old Zac Brettler, who in November 2019 jumped (or fell) to his death from a luxury Thames-side apartment directly across from MI6 headquarters.
