Janiyah Hargrave Interview | Five-Star 2028 Recruit, Ohio State Champion & USA Basketball Prospect

🎧 Spotify / Apple Podcast Description — Janiyah Hargrave Some players have talent. Some have athleticism. Some have the mentality to keep coming no matter what happens. Janiyah “The Grave Digger” Hargrave is bringing all three. On this episode of SportsLifeTalk’s You Got Next, we head to Ohio to sit down with one of the most exciting prospects in the Class of 2028. The 5-foot-10 guard has already built an impressive résumé that includes a state championship, an undefeated 28-0 high school season, five-star recognition, and multiple invitations to compete at USA Basketball trials. But Janiyah will be the first to tell you none of it happened overnight. Her basketball story started in elementary school, playing outside with her father and battling her twin brother in one-on-one games. Those early family battles helped create the toughness and competitiveness that have become trademarks of her game. When asked whether her success came naturally, Janiyah doesn't hesitate: blood, sweat, tears and hard work. And when you watch her play, you see the results. Janiyah describes her game as FAST—and that's putting it mildly. She attacks the basket, impacts both ends of the floor, rebounds from the guard position, creates turnovers and plays with an athleticism that immediately jumps off the screen. She's already producing at a high level, but what makes her dangerous is that she knows exactly where she wants to improve. Janiyah discusses working on becoming more consistent with her pull-up jumper and catch-and-shoot three-point shot. She knows defenders already have to respect her ability to attack the rim, and becoming an even more dangerous shooter could open another dimension to her game. We also dive into her experience with USA Basketball, where Janiyah has had the opportunity to compete against some of the best young players in America. She talks about learning to communicate, meeting new people and becoming more comfortable competing in an environment where everyone on the floor can play. Then there's the championship run. Janiyah helped her high school team complete a perfect 28-0 season and capture an Ohio Division I state championship. And the way they finished it sounds like something straight out of a movie. With the championship game hanging in the balance, teammate Kayla Florin connected on a deep buzzer-beater to force overtime. Janiyah says her team then took control in the extra period—and she finished the championship game with 26 points. Perfect season. State championship. Twenty-six on the biggest stage. Yeah… “The Grave Digger” feels pretty appropriate. But one of the biggest themes throughout this conversation is relentlessness. When given the words powerful, dominant and relentless to describe her game, Janiyah immediately puts relentless at No. 1. Her reasoning is simple: when things go wrong, she doesn't give up. She keeps working until she can make it right. That mentality also shapes how she approaches recruiting. As one of the country's highly regarded young prospects, Janiyah will have plenty of opportunities, but she's looking for something deeper than a recognizable logo. She wants a college environment that feels like family—a place where people genuinely support her and where she knows she's made the right decision. And because You Got Next is about more than basketball, we also meet Janiyah away from the court. She plays percussion. She loves burgers, fries and Oreo milkshakes. She's a gamer who enjoys NBA 2K. Her favorite superhero is The Flash because, naturally, he's fast too. Her playlist includes Brent Faiyaz, Daniel Caesar, Tems, Rod Wave and Elevation Worship—and she even gives SportsLifeTalk an unexpected live performance during the Initiation. Janiyah wants to keep working, become more consistent, continue developing her game and eventually play basketball at a major college program. Considering what she's already accomplished, you probably don't want to bet against her.

Maci Pringle Interview | Five-Star 2027 Recruit on Flower Mound, Recruiting & Her Rise | You Got Next

In this episode of SportsLifeTalk’s You Got Next, we sit down with one of the most electric players in Texas girls basketball: Class of 2027 five-star wing Maci Pringle of Flower Mound High School. Standing 6-foot-2, Maci has developed into a versatile scorer, relentless rebounder, high-energy defender, and one of the most entertaining competitors in the DFW basketball scene. She’s a two-time District 5-6A MVP, an All-State selection, a nationally ranked prospect, and helped lead Flower Mound to its first state championship game in program history. But for SportsLifeTalk, this episode hits differently. We first saw Maci years ago with the DC Queens, long before the five-star recognition and national rankings. Back then, she was the energetic young player diving for loose balls, attacking rebounds, supporting teammates, and making basketball look ridiculously fun. Now? That same energy has developed into what Maci describes with one perfect word: electric. Maci takes us back to the beginning of her journey and explains how playing with the DC Queens helped her truly fall in love with basketball. She credits teammates like Zayvionna Madison, Jamyla Anderson, and others for helping shape different pieces of her game. She also reveals how growing up playing soccer helped develop the motor, aggressiveness, speed, and competitive instincts that basketball fans see today. Then we get into the transformation. Maci talks about competing alongside and against elite talent, including players she once looked up to. She explains how those environments demanded excellence and taught her about leadership, composure, preparation, and what it actually takes to compete at the highest level. And the work has paid off. After years of being an underdog who wasn't always playing on the showcase courts, Maci has climbed into the national conversation as a five-star prospect. But instead of treating the ranking like the destination, she views it as confirmation that all those unseen hours mattered. Her mentality becomes even clearer when we discuss Flower Mound's historic run to the Texas state championship game. Maci reflects on the heartbreak of coming so close, the lessons she learned from that experience, and why accountability, leadership, preparation, and eliminating the “woulda, shoulda, coulda” moments will be critical as Flower Mound tries to finish the job. And when we ask Maci what's next? Her answer is simple: a state championship. Recruiting is also becoming a major part of her journey. Maci explains what “home” needs to feel like at the college level. She wants genuine relationships, teammates and coaches she can believe in, an environment where love is felt instead of forced, and a university where she can thrive academically. With aspirations of becoming a pediatrician and eventually opening her own practice, strong pre-med opportunities will play an important role in her decision. Of course, this wouldn't be You Got Next without getting to know Maci beyond basketball. We discover she can speak Pig Latin, loves anime and Studio Ghibli films, plays RPGs like God of War, rocks with Mac Miller, Erykah Badu, Summer Walker and Daniel Caesar, and chooses Black Panther as her favorite superhero. We even learn about the $2.30 tacos near Little Elm that may have officially become an SLT road-trip destination. Behind the rankings is a young woman who is funny, confident, thoughtful, competitive, ambitious, and incredibly comfortable being herself. That's what makes Maci Pringle's journey worth watching. Subscribe to You Got Next on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, leave a rating and review, and share this episode with someone who loves girls' basketball. We've watched Maci Pringle grow from that energetic young DC Queens player into one of the country's most exciting prospects. And she's nowhere close to finished. Once Maci Pringle pops… she can't stop.

Women’s Basketball Coaching | Lex Murphy Interview | SFA Assistant Coach on Faith, Recruiting & Her Journey

Some coaches chase titles. Others chase impact. For Stephen F. Austin assistant coach Lex Murphy, the journey has always been about people, purpose, faith, and finding a way to leave every program better than she found it. In this episode of SportsLifeTalk’s You Got Next, we finally sit down with Coach Murphy after a three-year recruiting process of our own—and the conversation was worth the wait. A San Diego native with nine years in the coaching profession, Lex has earned every step of her journey. She’s worked as a graduate assistant, director of basketball operations, recruiting coordinator, and Division I assistant coach, with stops that include UTEP and Texas A&M-Commerce before landing at Stephen F. Austin. Along the way, she’s been part of winning programs, postseason runs, and the development of countless student-athletes. But coaching wasn’t always the plan. Growing up in a basketball family as a coach’s daughter, Lex has been around the game for as long as she can remember. Still, her original dream was to become an elementary school teacher. She even earned her master’s degree and teaching certification. Eventually, she realized that her gift for teaching hadn’t disappeared—it simply found a different classroom. Today, the basketball court is where she teaches, develops, challenges, and pours into young women. Lex takes us inside her coaching philosophy and explains why one of the most important lessons basketball has taught her is to “know your personnel.” Every athlete learns differently, responds differently to coaching, and requires a different type of relationship. That understanding has helped Lex become the connector, recruiter, and teacher she is today. She also opens up about her role alongside SFA head coach Leonard Bishop and why their relationship works. From studying offensive schemes and identifying in-game adjustments to having a voice during critical moments, Lex discusses how Coach Bishop has challenged her to sharpen her basketball IQ and continue growing as a coach. Then the conversation goes deeper. Faith isn't simply something Lex talks about—it influences how she approaches coaching, recruiting, relationships, and life. She shares why she prays before recruiting calls, why spreading love matters more than collecting recognition, and how trusting God's direction has helped her navigate the uncertainty of the coaching profession. One incredible recruiting story involving Ashlyn Traylor-Walker and an unexpected frog shows exactly why Lex believes some moments are bigger than basketball. We also have plenty of fun getting to know Lex away from the sidelines. She reveals her gospel-heavy Top 5 music artists, why Captain America is her superhero of choice, the CeCe Winans song that represents her life, and even gives SportsLifeTalk an impromptu singing performance. We also discover her love for spicy food—including an Inferno Burger loaded with ghost pepper cheese and garlic reaper aioli that KT wants absolutely no part of. Looking toward the future, Lex isn't consumed with chasing the next title or position. Whether her path eventually leads to becoming a head coach or continuing to build alongside Coach Bishop, she's focused on staying where her feet are and trusting where the journey takes her. This episode is for coaches climbing the profession, athletes wondering what comes after playing, parents navigating recruiting, and anyone who believes leadership is ultimately about serving others. At SportsLifeTalk Media, our mission is to amplify the voices shaping girls' and women's basketball. Through You Got Next, we're proud to share the stories behind the coaches, athletes, and leaders moving the game forward. Subscribe to You Got Next on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, leave a rating and review, and share this episode with someone who loves women's basketball. It took us three years to finally get Lex Murphy on SportsLifeTalk—and after this conversation, you'll understand why we refused to give up.

Women's College Basketball | Hannah Hidalgo Interview | Notre Dame Superstar Opens Up About Leadership, Faith & the WNBA | You Got Next Podcast

Some players dominate the stat sheet. Others completely change the energy of a game the moment they step on the floor. Hannah Hidalgo does both. In this special episode of SportsLifeTalk's You Got Next, we sit down with one of the biggest stars in college basketball and one of the most recognizable names in women's basketball today. From becoming one of the nation's top recruits to emerging as one of the faces of NCAA Women's Basketball at Notre Dame, Hannah shares the mindset, faith, work ethic, and competitive fire that continue to separate her from everyone else. Representing Notre Dame after an incredible high school career in New Jersey, Hannah has built a reputation as one of the most relentless competitors in the game. Whether she's locking down opposing guards for 94 feet, creating steals that ignite fast breaks, attacking the basket, or leading her teammates in pressure moments, she brings an intensity that few players can match. Every possession is played with purpose, passion, and an unwavering desire to win. Throughout the conversation, Hannah reflects on where her basketball journey began. What started as a childhood rec league quickly became something much bigger as she realized she loved competing. From earning the nickname "Buckets" at a young age to becoming one of the nation's most decorated recruits, her story is a reminder that greatness is built one day, one workout, and one challenge at a time. One of the most powerful themes throughout the episode is leadership. Hannah explains that while scoring and making highlight plays are exciting, becoming a better leader has become her biggest priority. With a talented new group of teammates arriving at Notre Dame, she discusses learning patience, building relationships, and helping create the championship culture necessary to compete for a national title. Listeners also get an inside look at the defensive mindset that has made Hannah one of the most feared defenders in college basketball. She explains that great defense starts long before the ball is stolen. It begins with preparation, anticipation, studying tendencies, and refusing to let opponents feel comfortable. For Hannah, every defensive possession is personal, and that mentality has helped establish her as one of the game's elite two-way players. Faith has also played a central role throughout Hannah's journey. She openly shares how her relationship with God keeps her humble despite national recognition, awards, NIL opportunities, and growing popularity. Rather than allowing outside attention to define her, she focuses on becoming a better person, teammate, and leader every single day. The episode also provides a glimpse into Hannah beyond basketball. Fans learn about her love for fishing, exploring new cities, trying different restaurants, and spending time with family. Whether she's partnering with brands she genuinely believes in, enjoying chocolate chunk cookies from Insomnia Cookies, or simply relaxing away from the gym, listeners see the authentic personality behind one of college basketball's brightest stars. When discussing Notre Dame, Hannah makes it clear why she continues choosing the Fighting Irish. She speaks passionately about Coach Niele Ivey, the culture within the program, the support from the fans, and the family atmosphere that makes South Bend feel like home. She also shares her excitement about the next generation of Fighting Irish players and the opportunity to chase a national championship together. This episode offers valuable insight for athletes, parents, coaches, and basketball fans alike. Hannah's story demonstrates that true greatness isn't measured only by awards or statistics. It's built through humility, consistency, preparation, faith, leadership, and a relentless commitment to improving every day.

Women's Basketball Recruiting | Bisola Arowolo Interview | Elite Class of 2027 Guard | You Got Next Podcast

Some athletes spend years preparing for their breakthrough. Bisola Arowolo made hers happen in just a few seasons. In this episode of SportsLifeTalk's You Got Next, we sit down with one of the fastest-rising names in girls basketball, high school basketball recruiting, and the future of women's basketball. From picking up a basketball for the first time in eighth grade to becoming a Top 100 prospect, earning Team USA U17 Trials invitations, and shining on the Nike EYBL circuit, Bisola's journey proves that hard work can accelerate dreams faster than anyone expects. Representing Frisco Emerson High School and competing with Cy Fair Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit, Bisola has quickly become one of the most versatile guards in the country. At 6-foot, she can defend multiple positions, attack the basket with confidence, rebound at a high level, and score from all three levels. Whether she's leading the fast break, creating offense off the dribble, or making winning plays on defense, her game is built on effort, athleticism, and relentless competitiveness. One of the most inspiring parts of this conversation is hearing how quickly everything happened. Unlike many elite prospects who started playing as toddlers, Bisola didn't begin playing basketball until eighth grade after years of playing soccer. What started as a suggestion from a middle school coach quickly became a passion. Through consistent work, countless hours in the gym, and a commitment to improving every day, she transformed herself into one of the nation's premier Class of 2027 prospects. Throughout the episode, Bisola talks about the importance of staying positive. Anyone who has watched her play knows she's almost always smiling, and she explains that her outlook on life is rooted in gratitude. Whether she's winning, facing adversity, or simply competing, she believes there's always something to be thankful for. That positive mindset has become one of the defining characteristics of both her game and her personality. Listeners also get an inside look at what it was like attending the USA Basketball U17 National Team Trials. Surrounded by many of the nation's top players, Bisola embraced the opportunity to compete, learn, and build relationships with athletes from across the country. Rather than feeling intimidated, she viewed every workout and every practice as another opportunity to grow. Family has played a major role in Bisola's development. Growing up with two older brothers helped shape her toughness and competitive spirit, while her parents have supported every step of her basketball journey. She also credits her trainer, coaches, and teammates for helping her continue to improve while staying focused on becoming the best version of herself. As recruiting continues, Bisola already knows what she's looking for at the next level. She wants a school where she connects with the coaching staff, builds strong relationships with teammates, enjoys the community around campus, and can prepare for life after basketball. She also shares her interest in studying business or a health-related field while continuing to chase her dream of playing professionally. This episode is filled with valuable lessons for athletes, parents, coaches, and basketball fans who love discovering tomorrow's stars before the rest of the world catches on. Bisola's story reminds us that rankings don't define greatness. Consistency, character, resilience, and a willingness to outwork everyone else are what truly separate elite athletes. From growing up in Southern California to earning a scholarship to UCLA before continuing her career at San Diego State, Jerica's journey has never followed the traditional path.
