We'll also meet Misty, the pony made famous by Marguerite Henry's beloved book Misty of Chincoteague, and learn why caring for this special herd is an important part of Chincoteague Island history. This episode of Real Cool History for Kids is for Adelaide! You guys, when I was a little girl, I fell in love with horses. I loved to ride them, read stories about them, and just spend time brushing them. When I was 6 years old, I discovered an author who would become a writing inspiration: Margarite Henry, the author of Misty of Chincoteague. Thus, the wild ponies of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands became an obsession. By the time I was a teenager, I had drawn every illustration in Misty.
