    The Blues Brothers (1980) | Ep. 82 - Part 2

The climactic chase reportedly held the world record for the most cars destroyed in a single film for decades. John, Westy, and Matt continue the story, careering towards that mass-pile-up finale. We dig into the crew behind the film — the Aykroyd and Landis screenplay, the wall-to-wall soul and R&B soundtrack featuring Aretha, Ray Charles and James Brown, and the stunt and effects work behind the demolition — before breaking down the finale, the reception, and the film's status as one of the great cult classics. Plus the hosts' final verdict and scores. Part 1 is where the band gets back together — Landis, the cast, the first half. Worth starting there. Telling the story of Hollywood, one film at a time. Galaxy Quest (1999) & Dogma (1999) | Double Feature - Ep. 51

This month the pick comes from our Patron of the Month, Magnus Hedqvist, who's handed Westy, Matt, and John a theme tailor-made for a celebration: Alan Rickman. First up, it's Galaxy Quest, the 1999 cult favourite where Rickman's Shakespearean actor Alexander Dane is dragged back into the show he's spent two decades resenting, then into intergalactic war. Then we're heading into more blasphemous territory with Dogma, Kevin Smith's 1999 religious comedy where Rickman's Metatron arrives in a fiery explosion to deliver the news that two fallen angels are about to unmake existence. Two films from the same year, two very different genres, and two Rickman performances that do what only he could do: take absurd material and deliver it with withering conviction. We talk the Galaxy Quest cast chemistry and Dogma's theological chaos, and which film gives us Rickman at his most Rickman, before deciding which one earns a place on the ATRM Classic shortlist.
