Are You Angry—or Is Your Feed Making You Angry?

You wake up feeling perfectly fine. You scroll for twenty minutes, see corruption, crime, outrage and people fighting—and arrive at work angry. Did the world make you angry, or did your feed? Suleman Steele and Nicole Mitchell explore how social media affects our emotions, beliefs and behaviour. They discuss why people use scrolling to avoid uncomfortable realities, how online repetition can turn generalisations into accepted truths and why social media rarely gives us the full story. The conversation moves into business: owners who believe the economy is impossible, managers who decide an entire generation is lazy and employees who collectively label a workplace toxic—all while being repeatedly exposed to content reinforcing those beliefs. Social media can inform, educate and connect us. It can also shape the way we see our lives, colleagues and businesses without us recognising where those ideas came from. Your feed may know exactly what keeps your attention. Do you know what it is teaching you?

Should You Tell Employees the Business Is Struggling?

If a business is struggling and people’s jobs may eventually be affected, do employees have a right to know? Suleman Steele and Barry Mitchell examine how transparent business owners should be about turnover, profit, cash flow and difficult trading conditions. Barry shares why simply showing employees the numbers may create more confusion when they don’t understand the difference between money entering the business and the profit that remains after salaries, stock and overheads have been paid. The conversation also asks whether employees who expect bonuses when the business succeeds should accept greater responsibility when it struggles—and whether owners can reasonably ask people to step up if roles, expectations and consequences were never clearly established. A practical discussion about financial transparency, employee accountability, leadership communication and what it means to operate as a team when the business is under pressure.

When Does Determination Go Too Far?

She suffered a serious digestive accident during a HYROX race—and continued until she crossed the finish line first. Was that determination, poor judgement or a failure by the people who should have stopped her? Suleman Steele and Nicole Mitchell use Joanna Wietrzyk’s controversial HYROX race in Beijing to explore what happens when people become so focused on winning that they stop seeing the consequences around them. The conversation moves through goal obsession, employees waiting for permission, owners who cannot switch off, protecting one employee at the team’s expense, crisis planning, hacked websites, artificial intelligence, controversial advertising and why successful people still need someone willing to challenge them. After the recording, Joanna apologised, withdrew retrospectively and forfeited her result and points. HYROX also acknowledged that officials should have intervened. This is an unfiltered conversation about determination, responsibility and knowing when continuing is no longer the right decision.

How to Hold Employees Accountable Without Making It Personal

An employee repeatedly misses deadlines, but their manager avoids confronting the problem because they fear being called toxic, accused of micromanaging or reported to HR. The work is quietly handed to the reliable employee instead. Is that compassionate management—or has the manager become too scared to manage? In this episode, Suleman Steele and Nicole Mitchell unpack employee accountability, poor performance and the difficult conversations that managers frequently avoid. They examine what happens when the wrong person is placed in the wrong role, why successful salespeople do not automatically become effective sales managers and how employees can separate business feedback from personal rejection. The conversation also explores performance documentation, managing former colleagues, workplace communication, AI-written emails and why reliable employees are often rewarded with everybody else’s unfinished work. This is an honest conversation for South African business owners, managers and employees about giving feedback, accepting accountability and addressing performance problems before they weaken the entire team.

I Worked Inside 8 Southern African Businesses. They All Had the Same 3 Problems.

Barry Mitchell has spent the past three weeks working inside eight businesses across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. The industries, teams and circumstances were different—but the same three problems kept appearing: people, money and structure. Barry and Suleman discuss why businesses repeatedly move between normal operations and chaos, why accountability fails without clear processes, and how owners become trapped inside the companies they created. They also unpack the difference between running a business and simply being busy, what a business should ultimately give its owner and employees, and how AI can improve—or replace—human thinking. These aren’t theories from a textbook. They are patterns Barry is seeing inside real Southern African businesses.

Before You Change the System, Understand the One You Have

Management introduces another new system. Everybody is expected to understand it, support it and start using it immediately. A few weeks later, management has lost interest—but somehow the employees are blamed for resisting change. In this episode, Suleman Steele and Nicole Mitchell ask whether employees genuinely fear change or whether businesses have trained their people not to trust the next big idea. They discuss workplace change, AI anxiety, sales processes, CRM systems, communication, accountability and the difference between working hard and producing measurable results. A new tool cannot repair a process nobody understands. And before changing a system, the business must know whether the existing one failed—or whether nobody properly used it. A direct conversation about change, follow-through and why constantly starting over can create more confusion than progress.

    Are You Valuable—or Just Busy?

A salesperson hits every target but never updates the CRM. A technical expert keeps vital information to themselves. A manager is constantly busy, but nothing improves. A business owner believes nobody else can do the work properly. Are these people valuable—or have they simply made the business dependent on them? Suleman Steele and Nicole Mitchell examine what employee performance really means. Results matter, but results without systems, communication, accountability and continued learning can create serious risk for a business. They discuss difficult high performers, unspoken workplace culture, information hoarding, the difference between effort and results, and why nobody in a business is truly indispensable. This is a direct conversation for South African business owners, managers and employees who want to understand the difference between being busy, being important and genuinely making the business better.

What Is Really Keeping You Stuck?

Mindset is often reduced to positive thinking, manifestation and believing that everything will somehow work out. But what if mindset is simply the way you think—and the behaviour that thinking continues to produce? In this episode, Suleman Steele and Nicole Mitchell explore what keeps people stuck in their businesses, workplaces, relationships and personal lives. They discuss fixed and growth mindsets, how experiences influence behaviour, why labelling someone as “stuck” can be misleading, and whether everybody needs to revisit their past before they can move forward. The conversation then moves into energy and attention. Why can opening a bank statement feel exhausting? Why do employees avoid work they don’t understand? Why do people automatically refuse a request instead of asking for more information? And how much energy is being consumed by unknowns, assumptions and unresolved conversations? This is not an episode about forcing yourself to think positively. It is about recognising where your attention is tied up, understanding what you don’t know and becoming willing to behave differently. Because if something continually feels exhausting, there may be a reason. The question is: what don’t you understand yet? This conversation reflects personal experiences and perspectives and should not be treated as medical advice.
