Self Portraits As Other People

The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo

Self Portraits as Other People is a hyper-creative, psycho-active variety show wherein multidimensional artist, filmmaker, author, voice-actor, and wordsmyth The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo engages his guests in social storytelling to mindfully and artfully investigate where the limits of language meet the fringes of Reality. Praise The Lore! The show intrepidly treads the terrain of the trickster, constantly defying, redefining, and refining itself. Each episode is its own schizovereign entity, but there are themes that are built upon from pod to pod--themes like Consciousness and the Bicameral Mind, Divination, Folklore, Daemonic reality, Magic, Language, Psychedelics, Creativity, Dreams, Art, Poetry, Cinema, Ecology, literature, Animism, Precognition, Shamanism, and so on. Each episode is preceded by an intricately sound-scaped introduction that offers the invisible listener a lens through which to view the conversation that is to follow, along with otherwise cosmic, comedic, and contemplative content. The shownotes offer hyperlinked rabbitholes that will allow you to dig deeper into wonderlands touched upon on air. Occasionally a solo pod is bath-bombed into the stream to showcase stand-alone story fragments that have escaped from the dark archives of never before released materials, or from the vaults of "Patreon-only". Right from the start, SPAOP wasted no time jumping off the deep end into the highlands, linguistically levitating somewhere between the fatherland and the mothership, where laughing angels drink from the crying well and the cosmic giggle reflects its cracked smile on the surface of the shattered mirror-pool. If you're new here, and are wondering where to start, you are invited to listen in any order. Start at the last episode for the most cutting edge, newest now, and track back from there to witness the devolution, or start at the beginning and work your way up to the present, or pick a pod with a title & description that piques your curiosity. The choice is yours. We'd love to hear from you, so don't hesitate to reach out, and/or leave a review. www.theungoogleable.com

Fishing in Space - Microbial Occultism

When we think of occult, shamanic, or mystical beings, we tend to think in terms of spiritual abstraction, dissociated from the material world. But the occult simply means the hidden — the invisible world, whose effects on our fortune and health are real, even when the origins of their symptoms can't be detected with the naked eye. Long before the microscope, our ancestors were in relationship with that world: through ritual, altered states, the superstitions they hold, and the stories they told.  In this conversation, two poet-philosophers compare notes on how the imagination mediates between microbiological cultures and human culture — how the interface of myth, folklore, and story lend form to a realm that is invisible, but physical.  From fermentation to mythic mentation, this invisible world is not merely psychic or material in nature—it is meta-real.  🛸 🛸 🛸 👁️ Click here for the video version 👁️Click here for the Extended Shownotes (public) 👁️ Click here for PART 2 (Patreon Exclusive Aftermyth) 🛸 🛸 🛸 Find/follow Fishing in Space: ✨ YT/TT: @fishinginspace ✨ IG: fishing_inspace 🛸 🛸 🛸 The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo www.theungoogleable.com ✨ IG: void_denizen ✨ YT, X, TikTok, etc: https://Linktr.ee/void_denizen 👼 SUPPORT SPAOP: 😇 🪬 patreonize (http://www.patreon.com/voiddenizen) 🙏 🤲 donate: Venmo (@voiddenizen) / paypal (snailconvention@gmail.com) 🤩 🔔 Subscribe 🛸 ♻️ Share 🗣️ 🌟 Rate (⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ) ✍️ Review / Comment / Engage 💫

When I Met Werner Herzog (Akainst My Bettr Chudgment)

In this improvised walk-and-talk monoloque I reflect on (and atone for) the time I met Werner Herzog at the premiere of lan Cheney’s documentary film “Arc of Oblivion.” I use this anecdote as a jump off point to share thoughts about documentation, impersonation, Spiritualism as Proto-feminism, my time working as a photo double for the Riggs character in the Lethal Weapon TV show, the relative duration of objective vs subjective time, the parasocial reality of meeting celebrities, and the redemptive arc of self-esteem-punking oneself in order to give in to the humbling & the bumbling. Jesse Jacobs - Place-as-Character

(Headphones recommended for optimal immersion in and enjoyment of the show's intro and outro ) Jesse Jacobs is an imaginative comic book writer and illustrator from Canada. His books include Crawl Space, Safari Honeymoon, By This Shall You Know Him, and New Pets. His compelling, cartoon worlds and their inhabitants call to mind the pataphysical taxonomies of works like the Codex Seraphinianus, Hieronymous Bosch, Hayao Myazaki, and Adventure Time. His work often contains ecological elements that deal with characters moving through and adapting to places that are alive, and the mysterious forces (big and small) that lord over them. We explore the trippy tropes of place-as-character, nature’s boundless beauty and dangers, and the sometimes-necessity of boarding-up-a-portal. Comparing notes on the creative process, psychedelic influences, and sharing recommendations of books, music, and films, we revel in a mutual admiration of each other’s work. I created audio play adaptations of scenes from his books Crawl Space and Safari Honeymoon for the intro and outro of the episode, musically assisted by Bear Glass and the voice talents of Taylor Stillwell and Kat Lakey. You'll soon be able to find these, as well as extended shownotes, on my IG, TikTok, YouTube, and Patreon (linked below) so follow along! Sophia Rokhlin - The PreScience of Animistic Worldviews

I attended Sophia’s psychedelic psundsay psermon recently, on an actual Sunday in an actual church, in Asheville, NC. She may be an anthropologist, but she is no anthro-apologist, for this talk regarded “inter-species dialogues & plant consciousness.” & so we met up later that week to talk tardigrades, Jericho roses & the death & resurrection of words. To ponder prayer, spin recursive meme-o-spheres, encounter scary English angels in the polyglot-o-sphere & stand in “Uhhh” before the “awefullsome” in the realm of the sphere-its. We exchanged notes about what she calls “stacked spirit science” & we honored the ANTcestors with fancy-antsy words like “stigmergy” & “formication”. Even though all things that look/sound similar are connected, we managed to tell Huni Kuin from Loony Toons & Shipibo-Conibo from Evil-Knievel. We traced the riverine roots of the milk-mustached Drunk Monkey People’s circuitous designs back to the anaconda choirs of their creation myth (scales for days). We sat, as if in ceremony, w the riddle of sickness & the serpent’s place in amazonian&Asclepius’ lore. Snake oil or serpent medicine? We weighed the value of dream-tending vs. analysis & as we wondered how to concoct a cure for loneliness I remembered the psycho-magical Dream Theatre I used to facilitate, where we would often transcend Joseph Conrad’s maxim “we live as we dream—alone.” &just as Sophia & I considered questions that refuse to be answered & answers that refuse to be questioned, our pod-cast spell was interrupted by a phone-call from our friend comedian Shane Mauss. Sophia co-wrote the book When Plants Dream w Daniel Pinchbeck & has a bouncing baby blog on substack called NUMA.
