    Like Father, Like Son

The Gospel According to David Like Father, Like Son Chris Honess, Lead Pastor June 21, 2026   1.) Fathers play an important role in the Kingdom of God. … for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:5-6   Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Hebrews 12:7-8   and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22   So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20 2.) The family suffers when fathers don’t lean in. Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has that Amnon, your brother, been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister; he is your brother. Don’t take this thing to heart.” And Tamar lived in her brother Absalom’s house, a desolate woman. 2 Samuel 12:14   Then Absalom said, “If not, please let my brother Amnon come with us.” The king asked him, “Why should he go with you?” But Absalom urged him, so he sent with him Amnon and the rest of the king’s sons. 2 Samuel 13:26-27   Then Joab went to Geshur and brought Absalom back to Jerusalem. But the king said, “He must go to his own house; he must not see my face.” So Absalom went to his own house and did not see the face of the king. 2 Samuel 14:23-24 3.) A call to heal the curses and live in the blessings. To Timothy my true son in the faith: 1 Timothy 1:2a

    Healing from Sin

The Gospel According to David Healing from Sin Chris Honess, Lead Pastor June 14, 2026  Following David: Crawling towards the one who saves.  1.) Recognize our brokenness. David told the messenger, “Say this to Joab: ‘Don’t let this upset you; the sword devours one as well as another. … When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him. After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the Lord. 2 Samuel 11:25-27   Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!” 2 Samuel 12:7   2.) Own the consequences. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’ “This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. 2 Samuel 12:10-11   “But because by doing this you have shown utter contempt for the Lord, the son born to you will die.” 2 Samuel 12:14   3.) Call out to Jesus. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Psalm 51:10-12  3.) Receive grace. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. Psalm 32:1-2 Action Step: I commit to follow Jesus for the first time today.

    Partnership Weekend

The Gospel According to David Partnership Weekend Chris Honess, Lead Pastor May 31, 2026 1. God is on a mission to establish his kingdom. When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 2 Samuel 7:12   For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. Colossians 1:13   2. Plan A is the local church And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Matthew 16:18 3. And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant-and this decree, Sovereign LORD, is for a mere human!         2 Samuel 7:18-19   Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever.”   2 Samuel 7:29   PARTNERSHIP COMMITMENT I will partner with The Vineyard Church by: Committing to Grow with Jesus Commit Life to the Leadership of JesusPractice Spiritual Disciplines such as: Prayer, Worship, Bible Reading, and SabbathRegularly Participate in Weekend Services  Committing to Life Together Regularly Participate in the life of a Small GroupUse your voice to encourage instead of engaging in negativity and gossipSacrificially give my financial resources by committing to the biblical standard of 10% as the goal to meet or exceed.  Committing to Mission Live out the Values and Mission of The Vineyard ChurchShare my story of transformation in public baptismTo use my time and energy to serve this community by joining a Volunteer Team  If I am considering leaving The Vineyard Church throughout this year of commitment, I will have a conversation with one of the pastors.

The Beauty of the Broken Cry: Understanding David’s Lament Kern Preddie

The Gospel According to David The Beauty of the Broken Cry: Understanding David’s Lament Kern Preddie May 24, 2026   1. What is Biblical lament and what does it mean? The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Exodus 3:7-8   Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16   2. What do we lament - When idols fall. “A gazelle lies slain on your heights, Israel. How the mighty have fallen!  “Tell it not in Gath, proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines be glad, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised rejoice.  “Mountains of Gilboa, may you have neither dew nor rain,  may no showers fall on your terraced fields. For there the shield of the mighty was despised,  the shield of Saul—no longer rubbed with oil. 2 Samuel 1:19-21 3. The necessity for lament – To God you matter. Your pain matters to Him. Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll—are they not in your record? Psalm 56:8 Jesus wants the burdens you’ve been carrying and the pain you’ve been suppressing.

    The Wilderness

The Gospel According to David The Wilderness Chris Honess, Lead Pastor May 10, 2026   But an evil spirit from the Lord came on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. While David was playing the lyre, Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear, but David eluded him as Saul drove the spear into the wall. That night David made good his escape. 1 Samuel 19:9-10 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. Luke 4:1-2 1. … because he loves us. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. Psalm 63:3 2. … so that we will trust him. Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. Psalm 57:1 Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life. I cry to you, Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” Psalm 142:4-5 3. … to transform us. David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. 2 Samuel 5:4 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. Luke 4:14 4. … to enlarge our hearts for others. David took up this lament concerning Saul and his son Jonathan, and he ordered that the people of Judah be taught this lament of the bow (it is written in the Book of Jashar): 2 Samuel 1:17-18 God leads each of us into the wilderness. He sends us …

Overcome Your Giants - Chris Schlotterbeck, Lead Pastor (HCV)

Overcome Your Giants Chris Schlotterbeck, Lead Pastor (HCV) May 3, 2026 Silence the Voices Holding You Back … 1. Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself – it’s thinking of yourself less. “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Philippians 2:3-4  2. Godly vision inspires victorious living. “Where there is no vision, the people perish...” Proverbs 29:18   “For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.” Romans 8:16-17   3. Identify the real enemy. “When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:6-7   “If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?” 1 John 4:20   4. God’s armor is your advantage in the battle. “David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” 1 Samuel 17:39   Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” Ephesians 6:13   5. There is power in the name ... USE IT! “As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground.” 1 Samuel 17:48-49 “Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,” Philippians 2:9-10
