Sludge: An American Healthcare Story

What a great podcast to listen to during quarantine...it reminds me that our health care system was broken even BEFORE COVID hit. I just wrapped up Season 1 and am excited to start Season 2. An interesting and fun listen that helped me recognize my privilege as an health-insured person with generally positive health care experiences. #sludgelife

The staff at the ER weren’t warm and welcoming? She had to wait in the ER for 15 minutes? Wow what a nightmare. *eye roll* ER staff need to save lives, not play nursemaid to everyone. This podcast is absolutely ridiculous.

Although I agree that the healthcare system in the US is horrific and your experience was a nightmare, in most cases this is not how things are/should be handled. I think your podcast would be much more impactful if you had a physician or someone in healthcare to explain and/or discuss where the system failed you, why the policies are the way they are, what is wrong with the healthcare system from the viewpoint of a physician, and what challenges physicians and healthcare providers face as a result of legislation and policies put in place by insurance companies and the federal government. Instead of trashing the heath are system (although it definitely deserves it) the podcast would be more meaningful and could actually bring about significant change if you were to go in depth into the issues underlying the flaws in the healthcare system. The story is compelling and the issues you tackle are SIGNIFICANT I just feel as if your bias fails to bring about a productive discussions surrounding the issues at hand.

This show came out while I was going through my own medical journey. It was horrible to hear about the obstacles that Caitlin faced in the American healthcare system, but it also made me feel less alone. Thanks for sharing Caitlin!
