droincore

droincore is a safe space to wonder about how we relate to ourselves, to others and to the world. droincore is DIY, radical but also cosy... it's a conversation that tries to bring some difficult subjects into honest and open thinking. things like how we m********e, where fascism hides in cinema, identifying with queer, understanding consent, divesting of privilege, and taking care of each other outside of capitalist trappings. stuff like that. droincore holds no authority over anything – it's where we can learn together. there will be plenty of alternative culture to share - poems, stories and music – and some insight into creative process and what it actually means metaphysically to produce a podcast. there will be lots of sharp tangents, weird and unexpected flavours, passionfruit rants and we'll always wrap it up in tasty pastry.

DC33 - queering God of War - making hypermasculinity gay again

after another droinhiatus we are back with a banger! after a brief introduction to toxic masculinity, we're looking at hypermasculinity and hyperviolence in videogames. in particular - can we do a queer reading of God of War and reconcile our enjoyment of the hacking 'n' the slashing with our queer and our compassionate sensibilities? && - can we see games like Metal Gear Solid as camp art, militaristic and yet anti-serious? how do ideas of pacifism sneak to these videogames at all? its super interesting, and neither for videogame fans nor videogame haters - it's just yabb dabba interesting, folks. this week's music is Badness by Figcake Figcake: https://soundcloud.com/figcake it's also the first song of the first mix by TİLKİTEK for Roots Radio. DC28 - and still the droin goes on

we start this time by presenting the End to the Hostile Environment BannerDrop by Demands from the Pandemic. check out the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1030736333980390/ hopefully this draws attention to the situation of migrants and refugees, especially in the coronavirus pandemic but also in the wider context of the Hostile Environment (particularly in the UK, Ireland and the EU) the main topic of this episode is Scott McCloud's "6 step" theory of art, from his book Understanding Comics. it provides a way of looking at all works of art/creation that draws us into the core question: "why are we doing this?" it is a way of encouraging us to think more criticially about the art we consume, helping us develope a richer understanding and perhaps giving us more of a chance to create ourselves in the context of news and social media, it might draw our attention to how we percieve the current pandemic, given the wildly different situations we all live in. this episode we are also introducing BAD TRIPS, the droincore podcast psychedelic horror film club. next Friday we'll have a podcast focused on the film Altered States. get in touch if you need help watching it. we made a facebook event for the film club, check the droincore facebook page. music is The Irony of It All by The Streets watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZx5OgKQNrA Don't forget the facebook: https://www.facebook.com/droincore & Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/droincore/ listen to droincore on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, PlayerFM and probably other places.
