The indignant tone in your words today indicates to me that you are missing the point of the church goer in wanting to bring more people to Christ by mentioning this figure, who has helped to bring a Christ centered revival back to the USA. My guess is that church attendance was up in the weeks after his assassination due to his bold yet patient and loving witnessing for Jesus Christ. This church goer was wanting to acknowledge this to help Shepard in these newcomers and make them feel comfortable. If those people were not attending the church before Sept 10, then know that it was not the work of your pastor or congregation that got them there. Meaning you weren’t a bold enough witness in your community for Christ. Acknowledging why those people attended will help validate and keep them in the fold. I don’t think the church goer missed the point, I think you missed the point. Hopefully, those people will find a church that helps Shepard them in to Christ’s family rather than drop off entirely.
