Earn and Learn: Problems with CA AB1273

Earn and Learn: Problems with CA AB1273

    SUMMARY:

In September, 2021, CA Bill AB1273 was passed unopposed to create opportunities for allied health and radiography students to earn a wage for clinical hours in their respective programs, despite outcries in opposition from faculty and professional organizations like JRCERT, the ARRT, the ASRT and many more (including myself).  This Bill, which doesn't specify who will be paying students, will create a conflict of interest in student learning objectives, decrease the minimum standards of education and patient safety.  It sets us back decades in the professional status and standards we've worked so hard to grow... And not one politician opposed it throughout the entire process!  It's been tried before and shot down, so why didn't they listen to the professionals in the field this time?

I couldn't remain silent on this issue, and have come out of podcasting hibernation to bring light to the issue, and to get this discussion going in hopes to make our voices heard by the politicians.  There are other, less destructive methods for supporting our students.  This is not the way!

Radiology Q&A: How to find Cross Training Opportunities

Today, I’m giving you my personal advice and tips for creating cross-training opportunities for yourself...  DOWNLOAD the free worksheet!

    Subscribe to my YouTube Channel.

After being cross-trained in 4 different modalities myself, and as a hiring manager who interviews technologists for cross-training opportunities, I wanted to create this video to provide some tips for obtaining these opportunities, as well as describe steps you can take to be proactive.  Make sure to download the free worksheet if you're truly serious about cross-training into another modality.  This Radiology Q&A video was made as a result of questions from the "Rad Tech Career Advice" Facebook Page.  Check it out HERE.

    Instagram LIVE Session 6/2/2020

    Instagram LIVE Session 6/2/2020

Yesterday, I went live on Instagram to talk about the weekly challenge kickoff - the very first challenge is simple: Collimate 1/2" tighter than you usually do for PA and AP chest x-rays.  Also, YouTube video production plans, info about my new website and products coming soon, and of course, I'd like to know what type of radiography-related content you'd like to see!

If you'd like to watch the original video, it's on my YouTube Channel HERE: https://youtu.be/3_d_ZtzCQxo

Radiology Q&A: What Happens When The X-Ray Button Is Pushed?

Radiology Q&A: What Happens When The X-Ray Button Is Pushed?

In this first episode of my new series, "Radiology Q&A", I'm answering the question, "what happens when the x-ray button is pressed?"

Subscribe for more Radiology and Q&A videos like this on YouTube!

As an instructor of radiologic technology teaching exposure principles, this is a question we spend some time on throughout the radiography program.  I'm doing my best to sum it up in just a few short minutes!  Essentially, the x-ray button is pressed half-way to cause two main things to happen: anode acceleration to constant velocity and thermionic emission at the cathode.  Once that constant velocity has been reached at the anode, the technologist has the green light to press the button the entire way down... this causes potential difference (kVp) to be applied to the current going to the anode, which propels the electrons toward the tungsten target of the anode, where x-rays are produced as a result of their interaction.

    Radiology Exam Results

    Radiology Exam Results

Today's question: "Does the radiologist know the results of an exam right away, or does someone else read it later?"  I'll cover some of the many variables related to the prioritization of radiology orders for dictation and distinguish between the technologist and the radiologist, as well as some limitations in scope fo practice.

Helpful! Thank you!

2nd year radiographer student here. This definitely helps me retain info and material better. Grasping at any useful source of info I can since being shut down for 6 months. Missing out on all that clinical experience, has been rough. This really does help, if anyone has any other suggestions. Please let me know! Material currently in use. RAD tech boot camp, Merrill’s, Bushong, and Carleton. Thanks! Stay healthy.
