The Genesis Of Horror Games #166 [Black Nerd Podcast]

Continuing our Scare-A-Thon 2 season, the crew dives deep into the history and evolution of survival horror. We trace the genre from its earliest pixelated foundations like 3D Monster Maze, Sweet Home, and Alone in the Dark up through the iconic golden era (Resident Evil, Silent Hill) and into modern-day scares.  Join Our Patreon: http://patreon.com/vvclife  Grab Some Gear: http://vvcmerch.com General Talk Recap of Scare-A-Thon 2 co-op streams, cosplay contest entries, and October drops Highlights from the Sunday Baldur's Gate stream with JS-1 & Fame Community shoutouts and highlights from the /r/blacknerdgang Reddit community The Precious JS-1: https://amzn.to/4hFeRwO Fame: https://a.co/d/04cahhSA Jaelyn: Sloan: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4528662494/iron-fist-faceshell?ref=share_ios_native_control  Commercial #1 Main Topic: The Genesis Of Horror Games The Early Foundations: What were the true ancestors of horror gaming? The Attack On Black America #161 [Black Nerd Podcast]

In Episode #161, the Black Nerd Podcast tackles the multi-layered concept of "The Attack on Black America," shifting between macro-level systemic threats and the grounded, day-to-day survival issues facing Black communities across the nation. Combining cultural commentary with structural analysis, the episode frames modern oppression not as a series of isolated events, but as a continuous pushback against Black economic, political, and physical security.  Join Our Patreon: http://patreon.com/vvclife Grab Some Gear: http://vvcmerch.com General Talk Weekly Recap  Sign Up For Patreon BNP Clubhouse/ BlerdPrint/ Games BNP Tour Baldur’s Gate 3 Session 20 at 8pm! The discussion underscores that fighting "The Attack on Black America" requires both structural policy reform and community-level mutual aid.  Systemic & Policy Rollbacks: The hosts break down how legal, civil, and educational institutions are actively rolling back protections. From targeted restrictions on African American history curricula to national policies challenging Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, the episode examines how institutional shifts attempt to erase historical context and limit economic mobility.  Voting Rights & Political disenfranchisement: A central segment focuses on rising barriers to the ballot box. The discussion highlights legislative hurdles—such as strict voter ID laws and redrawn voting districts—that directly suppress the political power of Black voters.  Energy Insecurity & Infrastructure Neglect: Connecting macro-policy to everyday reality, the episode examines how infrastructural neglect leaves Black neighborhoods literally in the dark. The hosts explore reports of predominantly Black cities facing prolonged grid failures during extreme weather, as well as high rates of utility shutoffs that place vulnerable families in life-threatening situations.  Historical Parallels & The Modern Black Experience: Drawing lines from post-Civil War Reconstruction to the present, the hosts discuss the persistent racial wealth gap and how systemic inequities leave minority communities disproportionately vulnerable to economic shocks.  Evidence:  Show me articles about black communities going wi... the attack on Black America. Open show:  Audiences are burned out on Black trauma narratives disguised as high-concept sci-fi or horror. While works like Lovecraft Country or The Underground Railroad made their mark, a massive cultural shift is happening across streaming, gaming, and publishing. Viewers are demanding forward-looking Afrofuturism, original space operas, and unapologetic Black fantasy—stories where Black characters build cybernetic worlds, wield magic, and explore deep space without their humanity or oppression being the central plot device.  Join Our Patreon: http://patreon.com/vvclife Grab Some Gear: http://vvcmerch.com General Talk Weekly Recap  The Indie Show Mixtape Release July 4, 8pm Sign Up For Patreon BNP Clubhouse/ BlerdPrint/ Games BNP Tour Baldur’s Gate 3 Session 20 at 8pm! Normies Invade Nerdland [Black Nerd Podcast]

Welcome back to Black Nerd Podcast! We’re kicking off Season 7 with an unfiltered look at the shift every longtime fan has felt: the great invasion of "Nerdland." We welcome our special guest @CaliGalMedia to join our discussion and we have to get to know her! but let me expand on What used to be safe havens for outsiders, geeks, and hyper-fixated fans—from comic cons and tabletop groups to niche fandoms and retro gaming scenes—have officially gone mainstream. But with mass popularity comes mass gentrification. In this premiere, we break down what happens when "normies" cross the border into nerd culture, not to appreciate the lore, but to rebrand it, sanitize it, and dictate how it should operate.  Is nerd culture expanding for the better, or are the original architects being priced out of their own sanctuary?
