Literated is a podcast that explores the world of books and writing by talking to the people who live in that world every day. Through furthering my own knowledge and love of Literature, I hope to expand yours as well, and increase the awareness and discourse around the ancient, beautiful art of the written word. MiniPod 2: Herodotus!

FOLLOW LITERATED: Instagram: literated_podcast facebook: Literated PodcasT Email: literatedpodcast@gmail.com Herodotus! Called 'The Father of History', Herodotus was born about 484 BC in Greece - about the time of the battle of Thermopylae and the Persian invasion of Greece. (The one from '300'!) He grew up in the shadow of the Persian invasion. As a child he heard stories of the war and the heroism of the Greeks, daring to stand against a force as enormous and terrifying as the Persian horde. He knew it was a significant moment in history, one which people would wonder and argue about for centuries; about the forces and causes and motives behind each of the moving parts - not only what happened, but WHY? That's what I love about Herodotus; the passion and curiosity. And the wider context within which he saw what he was writing. Tune in to hear more about Herodotus, as well as some thoughts on why we all need to be a little more like him!

The Beat Generation with Jerry Cimino

The Beats were a generation of rambling poets, mystics, philosophers, rebel intellectuals, and writers growing up in a world defined by its newness and the uncertainty of the future. Kerouac, Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti, Burroughs; icons of American and literary history and, more importantly, virulently independent individuals determined to free themselves of the chains of literary and social dogma and usher in a new renaissance of free thought, free speech, free action - the freedom to experiment with life and the written word and to create in whatever way they chose. In this episode, I speak to the very knowledgable and generous founder of the Beat Museum, Jerry Cimino, in beautiful San Francisco! His insights and anecdotes are not only fascinating, erudite, and well-thought-out, but often funny and touching. I am thrilled to present the very first episode of Literated - I hope you enjoy! Stay tuned for much more and if you enjoy it, you probably already know what to do! (Rate, review, recommend!) Thank you all SO much!
