This week, the ancient pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago invites us to reimagine our walk with God not as a series of quick victories but as a long obedience in the same direction. Psalm 23 serves as our guide, and this week we land on one of its most quietly radical claims: that goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives. Not occasionally. Not when we deserve it. All the days. We unpack what those two words, goodness and mercy, actually mean in the depth of their biblical usage, and what we find is far richer than religious sentiment. Goodness points to beauty, dignity, and the moral fabric of a life lived as it was designed. Mercy speaks of a steadfast, covenant love that rushes toward us even in our failures. Together, they are not gentle companions who stroll behind us at a comfortable distance. The Hebrew word translated as follow carries the force of a relentless pursuit, a hounding, a chasing. This is the kind of love that lays in wait for us even in our most bitter and barren seasons.     What does it actually take to stand firm when life gets hard? Not just to survive difficulty, but to move through it with genuine strength, purpose, and joy? We continue our adventure into one of the most beloved passages in all of Scripture, Psalm 23, and in verse 5 we encounter an unexpected shift from the image of a shepherd leading sheep to the image of a generous host welcoming a guest to a lavishly prepared table. That shift is intentional and profound. The table God prepares is not a quick, forgettable meal. It is a feast of belonging, set before us even in the presence of our enemies, even when the world around us is hostile or indifferent. In the ancient Near East, sharing a meal carried enormous social and spiritual weight. To be welcomed to someone's table was to be affirmed, dignified, and claimed. And this is precisely what God does for us. He looks us in the eyes and says we belong, that we are deeply loved, that we can draw real and lasting strength from his presence. Jesus embodied this truth throughout his ministry, consistently choosing the table as the place where the kingdom of God broke through most visibly. For us today, the invitation stands. There is a source of inner strength available to us that no circumstance can permanently extinguish, and it is found in returning again and again to the presence of the One who has prepared a place for us.

Psalm 23 is one of the most memorized passages in all of scripture, yet there is a deep honesty in admitting that we do not always believe it. This week, our dear friend Jackie Parks guides us into the heart of that tension, exploring what it looks like to walk through what our indigenous brothers and sisters call canyons of darkness and gloom, and to do so without numbing out or running away. The central insight here is that the comfort God offers us in those valleys is not abstract or sentimental. It is concrete.     This 4th week of our Shepherded series, Clint draws from the ancient wisdom of Homer's Odyssey, where we're reminded that even Odysseus, known for his cunning and brilliance, recognized he couldn't trust his own instincts when facing the sirens' call. He had himself tied to the mast because he knew his judgment would fail him. How much more do we need guidance in our own lives? The sermon walks us through Psalm 23's declaration that God leads us in paths of righteousness for His name's sake, unpacking what it truly means to be shepherded. We learn about the devastating reality of being 'sheeped to death' - how our habitual self-direction wears ruts into our lives until the once-green pastures become wastelands. The cultural lie of our age tells us to follow our hearts, trust our instincts, and do what feels right. Yet statistics on unhappiness, anxiety, and depression reveal this self-directed approach is failing spectacularly. The teaching challenges us to see that righteousness isn't about religious duty but about right relationships - disadvantaging ourselves to advantage others. This is the way of the cross, the path Jesus walked and calls us to follow daily. When we allow the Good Shepherd to lead us, we discover that dying to our self-oriented pride is actually the doorway to the life we've been searching for all along.

This week's exploration of Psalm 23's second verse reveals that true rest cannot be manufactured through productivity hacks, better mattresses, or optimized routines. Like sheep who require specific conditions to lie down—freedom from fear, absence of conflict within the flock, and satisfied hunger—we too need our Good Shepherd to create the environment for genuine rest. Clint unpacks how Jesus dismantles our anxious pursuit of control, frees us from the exhausting hierarchy of comparison and competition, and satisfies the infinite hunger of our souls with His infinite presence. What makes this message particularly compelling is its honest acknowledgment that we live in tension: we have access to more rest-inducing tools than any generation in history, yet we are more depleted than ever.
