Old Gods of Appalachia
In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-anthology podcast set in the shadows of an Alternate Appalachia, a place where digging too deep into the mines was just the first mistake. The darkness beckons

I absolutely love this show and wanted to leave a rating and some hearts ❤️❤️❤️ At this point I just want to support and hear more so I joined the family and subscribed.
So dark and so good!

My Bestie introduced this to me while we were on a camping trip. Everything is so dark, yet told so well. I love how all of the stories jump around the timeline, but then weave back together later on. The story writing, character development, guest voice actors, historical context melded into fantastical myths, everything is just so I even saw the live show. I can’t wait to hear every single story in this world.
I’m only mad because

I only recently discovered this podcast. Why have you been hiding from me?!?! I binged the podcast nonstop. I happily subscribed to The Holler to support the carefully crafted and astounding storytelling of Cam and Steve’s spellbinding delivery.
Could have been my favorite podcast.

I’ve been with this show from the beginning and have religiously and lovingly listened to each episode as the host wove his tales. But lately I’m so confused I don’t think I can listen anymore. It’s just one red herring episode after another yawing from pillar to post with no continuation dropping characters and plot lines with absolutely no rhyme or reason and by the time a recurring character shows up again you’ve completely forgotten what any of it is about. What are you thinking? Get a clue about writing and producing and drawing your audience in by paying something off once in a while.
Well… it must be challenging to sustain creativity.

Aside from the new season’s intro music sounding like ya’ll hired a band from a bad truck commercial, the dark, mystery, and the horror of this show is fading away.
Just … no

Listened to several episodes to really get a feel of it, and it is not for me. Definitely not for or sensitive to certain ⚫️ crowds, and I feel like I’m listening some one’s racist pappy. The voice is ok for a bit but they should really change it up. Also, couldn’t follow along very well. Storytelling was trash.
Blown the heck away!

I just now finished listening to episode 76 and… it’s rare that I’m struck speechless, but dang has this show has done it! I wish that I had enough words to praise everyone and everything that is even tangentially related to this podcast. Throughout its run, it has moved me to tears, outright laughter, raging hatred, pride, and deeply profound sorrow through the artful way that it’s been crafted so as to take the audience along with the characters and allow them to experience it all for themselves. The storylines are pure genius, and every aspect of Old Gods of Appalachia is simply dripping with talent! I am SO glad to have lost myself in this podcast, and the folks behind it will forever have my most sincere, heartfelt gratitude!

One of my favorite podcasts they do a great job
Hokey?
Feb 14
I live in Appalachia and am a woman. I have to say I find the podcast rather hokey. The Protestant pastor delivery gets on my nerves but I made it through season 1 because of the GREAT story. I know 80 year olds in my holler that could tell a story better, though. It’s also…too Appalachian. It’s trying too hard. It researched “Appalachian lore” on Wikipedia and found a list of Appalachian words online and made soup out of them. It feels hokey and inauthentic. Lastly, yeah it’s woke and even I get tired of it as a woman. Just give me a good story ok? Now get off my property.
Just like home!
