  3. May Witchcraft

    May 16

    May Witchcraft

On this episode we are stepping into the strange, earthy and folkloric energy of May Witchcraft. We begin with Lily of the Valley after my mum recently gifted one to me for my garden and naturally, I ended up completely falling down the rabbit hole of its folklore and magical associations. Together we explore the flowers connections to faery folklore, protection, divination, springtime traditions, connected deities, old Christian symbolism, weddings, luck, death omens and the return of happiness. Despite its delicate appearance Lily of the Valley carries an incredibly liminal energy and has long been associated with the veil between worlds. From there we descend underground into the world of coal and charcoal magic. Lately I have been feeling much more earthy and grounded within my practice, perhaps because of Taurus season but also because I have been spending so much time gardening, growing herbs and reconnecting with the soil again. This led me towards wanting to explore the simple but powerful ingredients that would once have been accessible within everyday folk magic — things like salt, charcoal and coal. We look at the magical uses of coal and charcoal throughout history including protection, grounding, purification, banishing, prosperity work and spiritual cleansing alongside old folk beliefs surrounding miners, omens and underground spirits. Finally we finish with haunted mining folklore and ghost stories inspired by the folk horror novel Scratch Moss by David Barnett. Expect tales of Knockers, phantom miners, eerie omens, ghostly hands carrying candles through the tunnels, spectral black dogs, Bluecap spirits and the strange supernatural folklore that grew from the deep mines beneath the earth. So make yourself a cup of tea, settle in and join me for this wonderfully strange journey into May Witchcraft. Over on Patreon this month we descend beneath the tides with our new theme - Sea Witch. Throughout September we will be exploring the magic of the sea through guided meditation, folklore, plant magic, ritual, glamour, tides and oceanic witchcraft. Together we will journey into the liminal space between shore and sea, working with the subconscious, emotional alchemy and the deep, magnetic energy of the ocean. 6. April Witchcraft

    Apr 13

    April Witchcraft

Hello Witches On this episode we are looking at two different flowers you could work with that are perfect to plant during this month - cornflowers and hollyhocks. Hollyhock stands at the edges of the home, a traditional guardian of thresholds. It carries the energy of protection and abundance. Cornflower carries the magic of intuition, clarity and inner sight. Its vivid blue has long been linked to the third eye supporting divination and deeper perception. In Slavic folklore we meet Habernitsa, the Cornflower Wraith. A noon spirit said to dwell in the fields. She reminds us that the spirit world often meets us in unexpected ways. Cornflower also appears in the story of Chiron, the wise centaur, who used its healing properties after being wounded by a poisoned arrow during the chaos of Heracles’ battle with the nine-headed serpent, the Hydra. We also look at the owl, a guide between worlds. It represents deep, earned wisdom often found in stillness. Its presence reminds us to trust what we sense, even when it cannot yet be explained. Our book review is Hungerstone by Kat Dunn. My new zine Beneath the Hawthorn Tree will be out soon for Beltane, in this zine my zine covers an in-depth look at  Beltane and how you can celebrate it, all of its magickal associations, related deities, herbs, flowers, foods, crystals, trees, animals and journal and tarot prompts for Beltane, we look at the element of fire and how to honour it within your practice and then we go full fae with sections the faery realm, how to journey or astral travel to the faery realm, faery witchcraft, pixies, brownies, the bantee or woman of the house (a female Irish counterpart of the brownie), then we look at deities such as Morgan Le Fay and Cliodhna, their lore and how to work with them. March Witchcraft

March Witchcraft - Badger Medicine, Brigantia & Goblin Coombe In this March episode we explore the spiritual symbolism of the badger and its place within witchcraft, folklore and the awakening energies of early spring. We begin by looking at the difference between power animals, spirit animals and totem animals exploring how animals can appear within magical practice as guides, protectors and reflections of our own inner nature. The badger carries strong spiritual themes of earth magic, resilience, protection and boundaries. As an animal that lives beneath the soil in deep underground setts it has long been associated with the underworld, hidden knowledge and the quiet strength required to move through darkness before returning to the light. We also explore the badger’s connections to witchcraft and British folklore. We then look at the Celtic goddess Brigantia, a powerful deity associated with northern Britain, sovereignty and the land itself. Brigantia’s energy reflects the stirring of the earth as winter loosens its grip and spring begins to rise. To close the episode we step into folklore with a March tale called Goblin Coombe, a mysterious wooded valley in Somerset long associated with fae legends and supernatural encounters. This story is from the book Telling the Seasons - Stories, Celebrations and Folklore around the Year by Martin Maudsley. Birth Charts with Becky Lovatt

Hello Witches In this episode I’m joined by astrologer Rebecca Lovatt to explore how our birth charts can act as maps of potential energy, helping us understand ourselves more deeply and move through life with greater awareness. Rather than seeing astrology as prediction or fate, Rebecca speaks about the birth chart as a language of timing and personal design — a framework that can help us recognise our natural rhythms, strengths and challenges. We also explore how planetary transits can act as triggers for growth, healing and self-reflection. When understood consciously these periods can be approached with support, patience and nervous system awareness rather than fear or reaction. This conversation moves astrology away from rigid forecasts and into something far more useful - a tool for self-knowledge, compassion and conscious action. In this episode we explore - • How a birth chart reflects potential energy rather than fixed destiny • Why understanding your chart can lead to greater self-acceptance • What planetary transits actually represent and why they can feel intense • How transits act as triggers for growth, change and healing • The connection between astrology, the nervous system and emotional processing • Why slowing down during major transits can support deeper integration • How astrology can help us move from reactive behaviour to conscious response • The relationship between certain transits and physical health or illness • Stories and examples of health events aligning with astrological timing • Why understanding cycles can help us approach life with greater compassion Affectionately known as the “astrologer next door" and translating the stars from the edge of ancient Sherwood Forest, Becky is an astrologer, Human Design guide, and space-holder for people moving through change, healing, and remembering who they are. With one foot firmly on the ground with all that earthy chart energy and another in the deep waters with an 8th house moon, she brings practical clarity, warmth, and a steady presence to the often raw but transformative parts of your story. Becky uses her human design, astrological and somatic tools to support individuals, therapists, practitioners, and sensitive souls who are ready to understand their blueprint, honour their cycles, and walk their path with more self compassion and ease. Working to bring you back to a deeper understanding of yourself, through the lens of individuality and authenticity in a person centred, therapeutically aligned way. https://thehumblewarrior.co.uk/ Find me on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thewhitewitchpodcast/?hl=en Email - carly@thewhitewitchcompany.co.uk   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
