Between Two Flags is a podcast created and run by the United Nations Association in Canada – a charitable organization based in Ottawa with a long history of civil society engagement.     International Development and Diplomacy Series: Food Insecurity and the World Food Programme; Interning at a Regional Bureau vs. Headquarters

    Episode 2: On Food Insecruity and the World Food Programme (WFP): Interning with WFP at a Regional Bureau vs. Headquarters This episode brings together two of UNA-Canada’s International Youth Internship Programme’s (IYIP) recent alumni. Nobel Aka, who interned with WFP Senegal as their Regional Partnerships intern, and Li Feng Xie, who interned with WFP Rome as their Climate Action intern. With facilitation from the IYIP Project Officer Megan McGeough, the speakers explore the work of WFP from their different perspectives, comparing Nobel’s work with the Regional Bureau in Dakar, and Li Feng’s experience working with Headquarters in Rome. The guest speakers delve into matters of food insecurity and security in the Sahel region, and the impacts of climate change on food insecurity, as well as reflecting on episode 1’s query of the westernized nature of aid, and the need for an increased focus on regional, south-south partnerships in international development. ****** Episode 2 : L'insécurité alimentaire et le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) : Stage au PAM dans un bureau régional ou au siège de l'organisation Cet épisode réunit deux anciens stagiaires du Programme international de stages pour les jeunes (PISJ) de l'ACNU. Nobel Aka, qui a fait un stage au PAM Sénégal dans le cadre des partenariats régionaux, et Li Feng Xie, qui a fait un stage au PAM Rome dans le cadre de l'action climatique. Avec l'aide de Megan McGeough, responsable de projet de PSIJ, les intervenants explorent le travail du PAM de leurs différentes perspectives, comparant le travail de Nobel avec le bureau régional de Dakar et l'expérience de Li Feng avec le siège à Rome. Les intervenants se penchent sur les questions d'insécurité alimentaire et de sécurité dans la région du Sahel, ainsi que sur les impacts du changement climatique sur l'insécurité alimentaire.     International Development and Diplomacy Series: Gender Equality and the Gendered Implications of Climate Change

    Episode 1: On Gender Equality and the Gendered Implications of Climate Change This episode brings together two of UNA-Canada’s International Youth Internship Programme’s (IYIP) recent alumni. Ayak Wel, who interned with WFP Philippines as their Gender Equality intern, and Rayane Chbeir, who interned with UNCDF Fiji as their Inclusive Insurance intern. With facilitation from the IYIP Project Officer Megan McGeough, the speakers explore the gendered implications and effects of climate change, both in the Philippines and in Fiji. A particular focus is made to food security, and the impacts that climate disasters have on food insecurity, as well as the integration of female small- agricultural business owners into the market within Fiji through digital, financial inclusion. Alumni also reflect on their internship journey, and discuss critiques and queries on the modern, westernized system of international development, and the need to move towards regional partnerships. ********* Épisode 1 : L'égalité des sexes et les répercussions des changements climatiques sur les hommes et les femmes Cet épisode réunit deux anciens stagiaires du Programme de stages internationaux pour les jeunes (PSIJ) de l'ACNU. Ayak Wel, qui a fait un stage au PAM Philippines en tant que stagiaire sur l'égalité des sexes, et Rayane Chbeir, qui a fait un stage au FENU à Fidji en tant que stagiaire sur les assurances inclusives. Avec l'aide de Megan McGeough, responsable de projets pour PSIJ, les intervenants explorent les implications et les effets du changement climatique sur les hommes et les femmes, tant aux Philippines qu'à Fidji. Une attention particulière est accordée à la sécurité alimentaire et aux impacts des catastrophes climatiques sur l'insécurité alimentaire, ainsi qu'à l'intégration des femmes propriétaires de petites entreprises agricoles sur le marché fidjien grâce à l'inclusion financière numérique. Les anciens stagiaires se penchent également sur leur parcours de stage et discutent des critiques et des questions relatives au système moderne et occidental de développement international, ainsi que de la nécessité d'évoluer vers des partenariats régionaux.
