I love the podcast and Scott does a really nice job with engaging the guests and the audience. However, I have heard Scott use the term “cliche” when referring to some photography genres. Most recently he used this term for African wildlife and landscape photography. Please cease these kinds of statements as it is offensive to those of us who are dedicated landscape and wildlife photographers. Yes, every grand landscape has been shot but for a good reason, they are in fact, grand. Do you Scott think that we should stop shooting the American West? That it has become cliche? Are you providing the same feedback to other genres? I hope not. I just think that artists need to be supportive of other artists. I personally don’t vibe with street photography but I will always celebrate the endeavor. Ansel Adams was criticized for being a post card photographer, something that seems absurd in the context of his accomplishments. Was Adams cliche? For a modern equivalent, is Art Wolfe, Thomas Heaton, Neil Burnell, Simon D’entremont cliche? Of course not. Look, as artists we have a responsibility to very carefully consider our messages, it’s hard enough out there without us engaging in self harm.
