    Episode 5 - Rio Blues - Part 2

    As FitzRoy sails the Beagle to Bahia, he starts to buckle under the pressure of being captain when some of his crew succumb to tropical disease and the memory of a departed colleague haunts him. Back on land, Darwin and Syms are given a guided tour of Rio and its surrounds by yet another priest with questionable morals, while Derbishire runs from the long arm of the admiralty’s accounts department.

    Having arrived at Rio de Janeiro, Darwin and Syms leave the Beagle and explore the rainforest with a morally questionable Irishman, encountering unsatisfactory accommodation, cannons and tropical illnesses in the process. Back aboard the Beagle, McCormick is finally pushed to his limits by the actions of Captain FitzRoy, and Derbishire’s past come backs to haunt him.

    After arriving at Bahia in Brazil, Captain FitzRoy reacquaints himself with an old college friend, who enrages Darwin by introducing them to a local slave owner. During their stay the crew unwittingly discover the dangers of the local carnival, get lost in a jungle, and conduct a very flawed survey.
