#309 - The Underrated Fat Loss Tool That Isn’t Exercise

What if one of the most underrated tools for fat loss isn’t another workout? In this episode, I’m talking about NEAT - all the movement you do outside of deliberate exercise - and why it can make a surprisingly big difference to how much energy you burn across the day. I cover some surprising research into why some people naturally burn far more calories through everyday movement, why NEAT can be particularly helpful if you’re a shorter woman with fewer calories to play with, and how your activity levels can change without you really noticing. We’ll also look at: Why people who seem able to “eat loads” may naturally move much more How steps can be a useful way to track everyday activity Simple ways to increase movement without adding more workouts Why short walks after meals can help with blood sugar regulation What I’ve loved seeing from everyone doing Race At Your Pace How little “strength snacks” can help you keep working your muscles when you’re short on time You don’t need every bit of movement to be a workout for it to be worthwhile. Those little bits really do add up. #308 - Why You Can’t Just Try Harder to Stop Emotional Eating

If you know what you ‘should’ be eating but still find yourself reaching for food when you’re stressed, tired, anxious or overwhelmed, trying harder probably isn’t the answer. In this episode, I look at four things that can drive emotional eating - biology, emotions, beliefs and environment - and why focusing only on stopping the eating can leave us stuck in the same cycle. We’ll also look at what can help before, during and after emotional eating, including sleep and nutrition, restriction, stress, self-talk, your environment, mindful eating and why what you do after overeating can make such a difference. The goal isn’t to never emotionally eat again. It’s to understand what’s driving it, build more ways of coping, and have more awareness and choice around food. #307 - The Exercises I Wish Every Woman Would Do

What exercises are really worth doing if you want to stay strong, fit and capable as you get older? In this episode, I’m sharing the exercises I wish every woman would include in some form - and why they matter for so much more than burning calories. We cover strength, muscle, bone density, balance, power, heart health and fitness, as well as the benefits for fat loss, body shape and confidence. I explain how exercises like squats, deadlifts, step-ups, calf raises and even jumping translate into everyday life, plus simple ways to improve your cardio without spending hours exercising. Whether you’re already strength training or have no idea where to start, this episode will help you think about what your body needs now - and what will help you stay active and independent for years to come. #306 - How to Make September Different This Time

September can feel like a fresh start. Maybe you're ready to get back into routines after summer, or perhaps you're ready to start making some changes for the first time. But how do you make sure those good intentions last beyond the first few weeks? In this episode, I'm talking about how to use that September motivation in a way that actually helps you make progress - without needing to do everything perfectly. We cover how to decide what really matters, learn from what's tripped you up before, build habits around your real life, deal with the weeks where things don't go to plan, and build more trust in yourself that you CAN keep going. I'm also sharing why I've created a September Race at Your Pace movement challenge, and how having a goal, some accountability and a community around you can help you build momentum as we head into autumn. If you're ready to lose weight, get stronger, move more or simply start looking after yourself a little better again... this episode will help you make September count, and build something that lasts beyond it. #305 - Why Sustainable Fat Loss Takes Time

If you’ve been working on losing weight and getting healthier for a while, it can be easy to look at where you are and think: surely I should be further along by now? But are you genuinely making poor progress - or are you judging yourself against an unrealistic timeline? In this episode, I talk about why sustainable fat loss rarely follows the neat timeline we imagine, particularly when you’re navigating midlife, menopause, injuries, stressful periods, holidays and everything else that comes with having a life. I also share a brilliant exercise one of my clients used to look at her health, habits and body over the last 20 years - and what changed when she extended that timeline into the future. We cover why periods of maintenance aren’t wasted time, why strength training matters for long-term fat loss and body composition, and how to know the difference between needing more patience and needing to change your approach. If you’ve been feeling frustrated that your progress isn’t happening quickly enough, this episode might give you a very different perspective on how far you’ve come - and where the things you’re doing now could take you next. #304 - The Mindset Shifts That Make Weight Loss Last

The way you think about yourself - and the meaning you give to setbacks - can have a huge influence on the actions you take and the results you create. In this episode, I talk about the beliefs that can quietly keep us stuck, why two people can experience the same setback and respond completely differently, and how to turn mistakes and difficult periods into useful information instead of evidence that you've failed. We also explore what it really means to trust yourself, why getting back to a habit that's slipped is part of being consistent, and a powerful question to ask if you want your results to last: Who do I need to become to create the health and life I want? If you've ever thought "I always give up", "I have no willpower", "I've blown it" or worried that you'll eventually slip back into old habits, this episode will help you approach things differently. #303 - Client Interview - How Emma Lost 2 Stone and Transformed Her Relationship With Food

Losing weight is one thing. Losing it without feeling like you’ll eventually end up back where you started is another. In this episode, I’m joined by my lovely coaching client Emma, to talk about the last 11 months we’ve spent working together. Emma had lost weight before, but had struggled to sustain it. This time, she wanted to understand nutrition, change her relationship with food, get stronger, feel better about herself and learn how to keep going when things weren’t perfect. In her first questionnaire, she wrote: “I want this to be the last time, not just another attempt.” We look back at where she started, what she’s learned along the way, the changes that have made the biggest difference, and what she would tell the version of herself who filled in that questionnaire 11 months ago. If you’ve ever felt like you keep having to start again, there’s a lot in this conversation I think you’ll relate to. #302 - Why do I overeat just when things are going well?

Have you ever been eating well for weeks, only to suddenly feel like you've eaten anything and everything? Maybe it starts with one biscuit, a meal out or a stressful day. Before you know it, you're thinking, "I've ruined everything." If that sounds familiar, this episode is for you. I'm talking about why this happens, why it's usually not a lack of willpower, and how your body, your thoughts and your habits can all contribute to those moments. We cover: Why weight loss can genuinely feel harder as you lose weightHow pressure changes as you get closer to your goalWhy all-or-nothing thinking turns one treat into an overeating episodeHow restriction, stress and mental fatigue quietly set you up to struggleThe questions I ask clients to help them understand what really happenedHow to recover quickly instead of writing the whole day or week offIf you've ever wondered why you seem to lose control just when you were doing so well, I hope this episode helps you understand yourself a little better, and gives you practical ways to stop these moments derailing your progress.
