Episode 117 - Self-Discovery: Where Career Preparation Begins

Self-discovery is not separate from career preparation, it is where meaningful career preparation begins. In this episode of The Network, Corey Mohn talks with educator and school leader Scott Kreshel about Self-Discovery and Exploration, the third CAPS core value. Together, they explore how coaching, personality assessments, reflection, and authentic experiences can help students better understand their strengths, working styles, and potential paths forward. In newly recorded commentary, Nate Clayberg reflects on meeting Scott during the early development of Cedar Falls CAPS and the lasting influence Scott’s coaching mindset had on that work. The conversation considers how educators can move from directing students to coaching them, creating the space for young people to make decisions, navigate challenges, receive feedback, and gain confidence through meaningful, client-connected work. The central question: Where in the school day are young people given the opportunity to discover who they are, and then put that discovery to work? The Network is all about discovering the CAPS Model. The CAPS Network is a 501(c)3 supporting over 130 programs, in 20+ states and 4 countries. CAPS reimagines education to be a learner centered, profession based experience that catapults young people into passion and purpose. CAPS is going where students lead. Find us!
