Naked Out Loud: Vulnerability and the Courage to Live Authentically with Machan Taylor

What happens when you achieve the kind of success most people only dream about… but still feel empty inside? In this deeply moving and inspiring episode, I sit down with Machan Taylor to talk about inner healing, identity, authenticity, and the tension between outward success and inner struggle. Machan is a vocalist, recording artist, performer, composer, educator, and author whose extraordinary career took her to the highest levels of the music industry, performing with legendary artists including Pink Floyd, Sting, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, and George Benson. You can learn more about Machan at Machan Taylor’s official website and connect with her on Facebook and Instagram. Machan shares her remarkable life story beginning in post-war Japan, where her parents met while her father was serving as a soldier during World War II and her mother performed as a singer in an officers’ club. Japanese was Machan’s first language, but when her family immigrated to the United States when she was just four years old, she experienced a profound sense of loss. Suddenly she was separated from her home, her culture, her language, her grandmother, and the people she loved most. As she tried to adapt to life in America, she also faced discrimination and judgment because of her Japanese heritage. Feeling like she didn’t fully belong, Machan learned to bury her emotions and hide parts of herself in order to survive. Years later, she found herself touring the world with Pink Floyd, surrounded by private jets, luxury hotels, and cheering crowds. From the outside, it looked like she had everything. But internally, she struggled with deep feelings of emptiness, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome. Like many people carrying unresolved pain, she turned to alcohol and drugs to numb the hurt. Machan’s powerful new memoir, Naked Out Loud, is a courageous invitation to authenticity and vulnerability. It is the story of reclaiming her voice, embracing her identity, and learning that true healing comes not from perfection or performance, but from honesty and self-acceptance. In this conversation, Machan speaks with extraordinary grace and wisdom about race, trauma, silence, reinvention, healing, and the courage it takes to say: “This is the real me.” After an incredible performing career, Machan returned to school to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and she now teaches voice and performance at New York University. Her journey is a beautiful reminder that it is never too late to rediscover yourself, heal old wounds, and step fully into your authentic voice. In this episode, we discuss: The emotional impact of immigration, loss, and cultural displacementThe hidden pain behind outward successMasking, imposter syndrome, and the fear of not belongingAddiction as an attempt to numb emotional painThe courage to be authentic and vulnerableHealing from trauma and reclaiming your identityThe importance of finding and using your true voiceReinvention, personal growth, and inner healingIf you’ve ever felt like you had to hide parts of yourself to be accepted, or if you’ve struggled with the disconnect between outer achievement and inner peace, this episode will deeply resonate with you. Phage Therapy, Detox & Healing Chronic Health Problems with Dr. Chris Molda

What if your body was designed to heal itself - but something was getting in the way? In this fascinating and hope-filled episode, I talk with Dr. Chris Molda about chronic illness, hidden toxins, and new approaches to healing. Dr. Molda is a functional wellness practitioner, Doctor of Chiropractic, and owner of Molda Functional Wellness. Dr. Molda shares his personal story of facing a “perfect storm” of health problems that left him seriously ill. He battled Covid, contracted Lyme disease from a tick bite, dealt with black mold exposure, and struggled with parasites. Even with his medical background, he found himself searching for better answers and deeper healing. As a chiropractor, Dr. Molda has always believed that the body wants to heal itself. The challenge is finding and removing the things that block healing. He explains what he calls the “Three T’s”: TraumaThoughtsToxinsFor him, toxins became a major problem. Traditional treatments helped somewhat, but they didn’t fully solve the issue. That search for answers eventually led him to induced native phage therapy. During the episode, Dr. Molda explains about bacteriophages, or “phages,” which are viruses that target harmful bacteria. He says our bodies naturally contain trillions of bacteria and viruses, and many of them actually help keep us healthy. According to Dr. Molda, this therapy works by supporting the body’s natural ability to restore balance and fight harmful bacteria. We talked about how this approach has been used for people dealing with Lyme disease, long Covid symptoms, mold toxicity, and other chronic health problems. Dr. Molda also explains what it’s like to work with him. The process starts with a free 15-minute call to see if this approach might be a good fit. If it seems helpful, the next step is a longer consultation where he discusses your health history, goals, expected timeline, and costs. Because appointments are done through phone and Zoom, and treatments can be shipped directly to clients, people can work with Dr. Molda from the comfort of their own home. This episode is all about looking deeper, finding root causes, and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal. More Than Hope: Multidisciplinary Cancer Care and Emotional Resilience with Glenn Sturm

What would you do if you were told you might only have two years to live? In this inspiring and deeply practical episode of Linda’s Corner Podcast, I sit down with Glenn Sturm — bestselling author, astrophotographer, attorney, decorated military officer, and cancer survivor — to discuss multidisciplinary cancer care, emotional resilience, and what it really takes to fight for joy and quality of life after a devastating diagnosis. Glenn’s life story is extraordinary. A graduate with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and a decorated military officer with more than three decades of service, Glenn built a remarkable career as both a lawyer and leader. But in 2009, his life changed overnight when doctors discovered he had aggressive T-cell lymphoma. The diagnosis came completely out of the blue. Glenn didn’t even realize he had been screened for cancer. Doctors told him there was no cure — only management — and estimated he might survive for only two years. That was seventeen years ago. Since then, Glenn has endured continuous chemotherapy and more than 55 surgeries, yet he continues to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. His perspective is powerful and refreshingly honest. Glenn openly shares what people are rarely told about surviving cancer: how important it is to protect your energy, maintain emotional resilience, and intentionally pursue hope and joy. One of the central themes of our conversation is the importance of multidisciplinary cancer care. Glenn explains why creating a collaborative treatment team can dramatically improve outcomes for cancer patients. He shared research suggesting that multidisciplinary approaches may reduce mortality rates anywhere from 14% to 90% compared to isolated or solo treatment strategies. His upcoming book, More Than Hope, explores these integrated cancer care approaches in greater depth. We also discuss the importance of quality of life during treatment. Glenn shares how finding the right medication dramatically improved his energy levels, which in turn improved both his daily life and longevity. As Glenn explains, improving quality of life is not just about comfort — it can also help people live longer. A true win-win. Beyond medicine, Glenn speaks candidly about the emotional side of survivorship and the daily decision to keep moving forward. His message is grounded in practical emotional survival and the belief that while we cannot control every circumstance, we can choose how we respond. As Glenn says, “Only you can stop you.” This episode is a powerful reminder that hope is not passive. It’s something we actively build through connection, resilience, strategy, and purpose. Reimagine: Transforming Grief Through Story and Song with Brad Wolfe

What do we do when life breaks our hearts and we can’t fix the pain for the people we love? In this moving and deeply human episode of Linda’s Corner Podcast, I sit down with Brad Wolfe — singer-songwriter, community activist, and founder of Reimagine — to talk about grief, music, storytelling, and how we can transform pain into purpose, connection, and healing. Brad shares the story of his childhood friend Sara, who was diagnosed with a rare pediatric cancer. Faced with the helplessness that so many people feel during tragedy, Brad discovered something powerful: even when we can’t make everything better, we can still show up with love. He brought his guitar to the hospital and began singing for Sara, eventually writing a song for her called “Sara’s Got a Sunbeam.” Through music, Brad witnessed not only emotional comfort, but even relief from some of Sara’s physical symptoms. The experience transformed Brad as well. He realized that helping others creates healing for everyone involved. That journey eventually led to the creation of the Sunbeam Foundation, which has since raised more than $1 million for cancer research. Brad also formed his band, Brad Wolfe & The Moon, debuting alongside Grammy-winning artist Sara Bareilles. We also discuss the powerful story behind Brad’s song “Why Wait?” — inspired by his grandmother, Sally Wolfe, one of the last living survivors of The Holocaust and a survivor of Auschwitz concentration camp. Sally lived to be 102 years old and left behind a profound message: life is short, so we must use our time to care for one another, practice kindness, and choose tolerance and compassion. That message became a guiding force in Brad’s life and work. Through Reimagine, Brad has helped create one of the largest community movements in the United States focused on grief, healing, mortality, and meaning. Reimagine has hosted more than 4,500 events for over 250,000 people, creating safe spaces where people can share stories about loss, illness, discrimination, violence, heartbreak, and hope. We also talk about the healing power of creativity and storytelling, the role music plays in helping us process difficult emotions, and how even small steps can help us create meaning and purpose from painful experiences. Brad reminds us that while life is fragile and temporary, we still have the opportunity to live intentionally, love deeply, and do what matters most with the time we are given. What followed was not just grief, but layers of trauma—watching him battle illness, being unable to be by his side for 11 long days, and then finally being allowed to be present at the moment of his passing. Parenting Adult Children: From Control to Connection with Catherine Hickem

What if the hardest part of parenting… isn’t raising children—but learning how to relate to them as adults? In this powerful and eye-opening episode, I sit down with Catherine Hickem—licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist, executive coach, and founder of Parenting Adult Children Today—to explore one of the most overlooked and emotionally complex stages of family life: parenting adult children. With over 40 years of experience helping families navigate conflict, change, and growth, Catherine brings both professional expertise and personal insight to a topic that affects nearly every family—yet is rarely talked about openly. We dive into why so many parent-child relationships become strained over time, and what it really takes to rebuild trust, connection, and mutual respect. One statistic is especially striking: 1 in 4 adults is estranged from at least one parent. This isn’t random—it’s often the result of unspoken expectations, unresolved conflict, and missed opportunities for repair. Catherine challenges parents to take a courageous and honest look inward—shifting from reaction to reflection, from control to curiosity, and from authority to partnership. We also talk about the grief many parents carry—the loss of the child they imagined—and how processing that grief is essential to truly loving and accepting the adult child in front of them. This conversation is filled with compassion, clarity, and practical wisdom for anyone who wants a healthier, more meaningful relationship with their adult children. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why so many adult children become estranged from their parentsHow unspoken expectations quietly damage relationshipsThe critical shift from authority figure to trusted allyWhy parents must do their own inner work to rebuild connectionHow grief plays a hidden role in family relationshipsPractical ways to create safety, trust, and open communicationHow to move from control to curiosity in your parenting About Catherine Hickem: Catherine Hickem is a licensed clinical social worker, seasoned psychotherapist, executive coach, and founder of Parenting Adult Children Today. With over four decades of experience, she has helped thousands of families and leaders navigate emotional complexity with clarity and purpose. She is also the former leader of The Dash Group, a consultancy focused on building strong leaders, healthy cultures, and sustainable success. Her upcoming book, It’s Never Too Late to Be a Great Parent (2026), offers a compassionate roadmap for healing, reconnection, and legacy-building within families. Key Takeaway: Your relationship with your child doesn’t end when they become an adult—it evolves. And the quality of that relationship often depends on your willingness to grow, reflect, and meet them where they are. When parents create a safe, non-judgmental space, adult children don’t pull away—they lean in. Achieving "ThINNER Peace" in Menopause & Beyond with Dr. Deb Butler

What if the secret to lasting weight loss had nothing to do with diets… and everything to do with your mind? In this empowering episode, I sit down with Dr. Deb Butler—Certified Master Weight Loss & Life Coach, Board-Certified Chiropractor, Nutritionist, Acupuncturist, and host of the podcast ThINNER Peace in Menopause and Beyond. Dr. Deb shares a refreshing, sustainable approach to wellness that helps women finally break free from diet culture and create peace with food. After decades of struggling with weight and yo-yo dieting, Dr. Deb reached a turning point at age 50. She walked away from diets for good and developed a powerful, mindset-based method to help women—especially those navigating menopause—lose weight in a way that actually lasts. 💡 What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why the real issue isn’t what you eat—but why you eatHow emotional eating can keep you stuck in unhealthy patternsA simple way to recognize true hunger vs. emotional hungerThe powerful “-10 to +10” hunger scale—and how to use itWhy learning to trust your body is the key to natural weight lossHow to quiet your “toddler brain” (a.k.a. the lizard brain)The role of mindfulness in creating lasting changeWhy controlling the mind is the first step to transforming the body🧠 Mindset Matters More Than You Think Dr. Deb explains that many of us eat not because we’re physically hungry, but because we’re trying to soothe stress, boredom, or emotional discomfort. Her approach invites us to pause and ask: Am I truly hungry? She introduces a simple but powerful hunger scale: -10 = starving 0 = neutral +10 = stuffed The goal? Stay between -2 and +2—eat when you’re gently hungry and stop when you’re satisfied. It sounds simple, but it requires something many of us have lost: trust in our own bodies. 👶 The “Toddler Brain” vs. Your Higher Mind One of the most memorable insights from this episode is Dr. Deb’s analogy of the brain. She describes part of the mind as a “toddler”—impulsive, emotional, and demanding immediate gratification. This “lizard brain” throws tantrums when it doesn’t get what it wants. But just like a loving parent doesn’t give in to every tantrum, we don’t have to obey every craving. Instead, we can use our higher brain—the prefrontal cortex—to respond with intention, discipline, and self-love. ❤️ Make Peace with Food—For Good Dr. Deb’s message is both freeing and empowering If you want to change your body, start by changing your mind. By developing awareness, practicing mindfulness, and learning to listen to your body, you can finally step off the diet rollercoaster—and stay off. This isn’t about restriction. It’s about freedom, peace, and lasting transformation. 🔗 Connect with Dr. Deb Learn more about Dr. Deb and download her free guide to jumpstart your weight loss journey:  👉 Dr. Deb Butler Coaching (drdebbutler.com) 🎧 Enjoying the Podcast?
