Think On These Things

This devotion focuses on the practical application of Philippians 4:4-8, emphasizing a life characterized by constant rejoicing, humility, and freedom from anxiety. Brother Reynolds interprets the command to rejoice as a divine imperative that remains valid even in difficult circumstances, illustrated by personal family blessings and the context of past tragedies. The message highlights the importance of moderation and gentleness, urging believers to reflect the character of Christ through humble interactions with others. Central to the teaching is the instruction to replace worry with earnest prayer and thanksgiving, which leads to the peace of God that surpasses understanding. The sermon concludes with an interactive examination of verse 8, encouraging the audience to intentionally occupy their minds with things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report, thereby guarding against negative thought patterns and external influences.

A Purposed Heart

This sermon examines the life of Daniel as a model for maintaining spiritual integrity in a hostile cultural environment. It argues that the pressure to conform to societal norms is not new, citing Daniel's exile in Babylon where he faced attempts to alter his body, mind, habits, and identity. The central message emphasizes the necessity of a steadfast, purposed heart that chooses to submit to God over the teachings of men, spotlight God rather than self, and seek God over human approval. Through Daniel's example of dietary discipline, prayer, and humility, the preacher encourages believers to develop self-discipline and rely on God's favor to stand firm against cultural pressures, ensuring that their holiness remains intact regardless of external circumstances.

Be What You Is

The sermon centers on the declarative reality of Matthew 5:13-14, emphasizing that believers possess an unchanging identity as salt and light. This state of being is not merely a past event or a potential future hope, but a present grammatical reality that demands active expression. The preacher argues that this identity compels Christians to serve as agents of change for the edification and encouragement of others, rather than allowing for embarrassment or passivity. To fulfill this role, believers must associate with one another, recognizing that spiritual sharpening requires both hardness and softness within the community of faith. Ultimately, the call is to be active in influencing the world for God's glory, relying on Christ's strength to overcome personal limitations and fulfill this divine assignment.

Keep On Keeping On

This sermon emphasizes the imperative to remain steadfast in biblical truth amidst a culture of change and false teaching. The central message urges believers to make the Bible their ultimate authority, arguing that it is essential for spiritual formation, the removal of foolishness, and the strengthening of faith. The text highlights the divine inspiration of Scripture, describing it as God-breathed and free from error, which distinguishes it from human tradition or cultural norms. Furthermore, the sermon outlines the practical profitability of the Word for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness, serving as a maintenance manual for the Christian life. Ultimately, the goal is for the man of God to be thoroughly furnished for all good works, achieving maturity and proficiency through daily engagement with the text.

Living in Reality

This sermon examines Jude 1:8-10 to identify the characteristics of false teachers who live in a delusional fantasy world, defiling their flesh and rebelling against legitimate authority. The message contrasts the behavior of these 'filthy dreamers' with the example of Michael the archangel, who refrained from railing accusations against the devil, thereby highlighting the sin of slander and the importance of submitting to God's order. It emphasizes that believers must guard their tongues, ensuring their words are sanctified by the Holy Spirit rather than driven by natural instincts or brute beast-like appetites. Brother Brenson urges the congregation to reject the illusion that sin has no consequences, recognizing that unbridled passion leads to self-corruption. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a life of obedience guided by the Word of God, trusting that His commands are designed to protect believers from harm and to glorify Him.

Payback Is Coming

This sermon explores the doctrine of divine retribution and the second coming of Christ as presented in 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10, addressing the tension between the suffering of believers and the apparent flourishing of the wicked. The central message assures the audience that God's judgments are righteous and that a future reversal will occur when Jesus returns to judge those who reject the gospel. The text emphasizes that while believers endure temporary tribulation, they are promised eternal rest, whereas the unrepentant face everlasting destruction. Brother Brenson encourages the congregation to release bitterness and the desire for personal vengeance, trusting instead in God's ultimate justice. Finally, the sermon highlights the hope of being glorified in Christ, where the work of God in the lives of His saints will be displayed for eternity.

Songs of Ascent

This sermon introduces a new series on the Songs of Ascent, specifically focusing on the context of Psalm 120 through 134 as pilgrim songs sung by Israelites ascending to Jerusalem for the major feasts. The message emphasizes the practical and spiritual purpose of singing, arguing that it centers hearts on Christ, expresses gratitude, unites the body of believers, reinforces biblical truth, and prepares the soul for worship. By drawing on passages such as Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16, Brother Brenson highlights the importance of choosing music that is rich in doctrine and God-honoring rather than self-focused. The tone is instructional and encouraging, urging the congregation to view singing not as entertainment but as a vital means of spiritual preparation and communal unity in their daily walk with God.

Remember God's Judgment

This sermon examines Jude 1:5-11 to highlight the sobering reality of God's judgment on sin, using six Old Testament examples to warn believers against false teaching and living. The message emphasizes that biblical truth requires constant remembrance, as spiritual maturity does not eliminate the need for repetition to combat the human tendency to forget. By analyzing the unbelief of Israel, the fallen angels, Sodom and Gomorrah, Cain, Balaam, and Korah, the text illustrates that no one, not even angels, is exempt from divine justice when they rebel against God's authority. Brother Brenson urges the congregation to be guarded, to avoid those who compromise truth for reward or personal preference, and to recognize that public ministry success does not guarantee private holiness. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a faithful response to these warnings, encouraging believers to remain humble, teachable, and steadfast in their commitment to God's Word.
