(Still the Creative Reboot you know & love, but we’re moving over here - read on for reasons!) Ta daaaaaaaah! Welcome back, or welcome if you’re finding us for the first time! After five years and eight seasons of our beautiful little podcast, we’ve decided to move over to Substack, and figured an intro, or re-introduction, would probably be a good place to start. The Podcast Creative Reboot is all about creativity, whether it’s your full time job, your side hustle, your hobby - wherever creative oomph fits into your life. It started when we (Carla & Sarah - more about us in a bit) were having late night conversations shortly after Sarah moved to Canada. First we thought other people might like to hear them, and then we realised other people might also like to join in with them. And somehow now we’re here. We didn’t have much of a plan, but we did have a founding principle of honesty, and honesty at the time the things were happening rather than ten years after they were fixed. And halfway through we both discovered we were neurodivergent, in some similar and some wildly different ways. Which has definitely had an influence on our podcast! It’s sort of us working out and reworking our lives, figuring it out very publicly so you guys can follow along. Meet Carla Watkins Carla is the UK half of Creative Reboot, based in Essex. She’s a brand photographer / visual magic maker, fantasy photographer and semi professional mermaid. Alongside her photography businesses and the podcast she helps with her family’s chocolate business TEMPRD, co-owns an online stationery boutique (Ink Drops), cofounded Cahoots Club for networking & connection, and quite possibly some other stuff she’s forgotten to mention. She’s been blogging since 2004, has her own Substack over at Colourful Magical Weirdo Life (& business) and is long form everything - photos and words in equal measure, but almost never short snippets. She’s very definitely a multipod, and it will come as no surprise that her ND flavour is ADHD. And she lives by the river with two silly kittens, is single & childfree by choice, and forgot to mention these things in her intro! In the mountains. Which we’re not AT ALL jealous of… She’s also a multipod, with her business Sarah Wayte Creative encompassing copywriting, creative writing and brand photography. She’s currently writing her first novel, and also writes lots of creative non-fiction, usually about her own experiences as a recovering paramedic, a neurodivergent person, a woman going through perimenopause, a migrant who has moved country multiple times. She is a certified word nerd who loves words with every atom of her being. And she’s married and also a cat mum and childfree by choice! We met in Essex over a decade ago, have maintained a very close friendship throughout transatlantic moves and the pandemic and all sorts of other chaos, although we don’t see each other as much as we’d like to. But we do chat on Whatsapp most days! Well, we decided we’re not going to start a new season (and actually, we recorded this nearly two months before we managed to release it, so this was the correct decision for this insane year). It’s been a busy year with Carla’s 40th, a Scotland trip for Sarah and the usual mad life things happening - and when we got together to talk about season nine, we’d independently both come to the conclusion that we may not have time for a whole structured season this year. But we have both been writing our own Substacks in the meantime, and we both love how it feels over here - like the golden days of blogging & connection online - and when we checked our back catalogue we have 90 episodes. Eeeek! So while we may well record the odd episode during this year to keep you updated, mostly we are going to be polishing show notes over here and re-releasing all our previous episodes for you guys to catch up on. (well, almost all - there are some irrelevant archive bits like the prepping for the pandemic which probably don’t need a re-listen!) Hopefully you’ll be seamlessly listening to this on your usual platform, and our website is staying intact, but because there are so many episodes we’re going to work through them a little bit at a time. We’ll highlight them in order from season 1, with the small caveat that we were a bit more chaotic in the early days and we had no idea we’d still be going five years down the line!
