    Purposely Imperfect

Welcome to the seventeenth episode of zero to one podcast. I first want to start by saying, welcome back! It has been a crazy couple of months for me, and I am happy to be back with you guys sharing new stories and messages that need to be heard. As the pandemic continues to progress, we are all experiencing a change in one way or another. Speaking from my own experiences, it has been challenging for me to successfully conduct these interviews over the internet and connect with these musicians, and I'm still navigating through this. Moving forward in the future, I will do my best to do all interviews in person while still respecting the social distancing guidelines.    I am super delighted to bring you today's interview with one of my longtime buddies, John Britt. John was the first guest that I have met face to face within months, and what a breathe of fresh air it was to sit down with him and discuss his journey.    In today's interview, we discuss our history together and how music brought us together. John talks about his DIY approach and how that has influenced his music. We talk about how this time in quarantine has forced him to turn his energy to himself. John then reveals his production process of a song and how fiction and science fiction inspires his writing. We then discuss his progress and how seeing that development brings him the most joy. And lastly, we discuss his most significant zero to one moment and how his relationship with his friend Nick propelled his career to new heights.

    Find Your Path

Welcome to the fifteenth episode of zero to one podcast. Today I have the chance to sit down with my first international music photographer who has quite a robust resume when it comes to shooting some of today's most prominent artists. Matt has devoted many years to photography, and it has led him to opportunities with acts such as Coldplay, Lumineers, Bon Iver, and most notably, his US tour with Young the Giant. I had the chance to connect with Matt through my first guest April, and when I first saw his pictures, I was intrigued by not only the energy he captures but the color in his photographs. I think these pictures are almost an extension of who he is as a person, and I'm so excited for you to hear his story.     In today's interview, we discuss Matts's developmental years with music photography and how critical it is to take every opportunity early on. We discuss his experience with traveling abroad to Argentina and how that allowed him to photograph Coldplay. We talk about some of the photographers that have inspired him. Matt then talks about his involvement touring with Young the Giant and how that was a bucket list item for him. He then proceeds to tell us about some of the challenges that come with touring and how having the right balance between home life and tour life is necessary.  Matt also has a lot of great wisdom to give when it comes to encouraging people who might also want to pursue music photography. Lastly, we discuss his most significant zero to one moment and how his trip to Argentina impacted him not only professionally, but also personally.

From the Studio to the Stage (Jeff Martin)

Welcome to the thirteenth episode of Zero to One Podcast! I am super eager to get this message out to you today because Jeff Martin not only has a wealth of knowledge on music production, he also happens to be the drummer for one of my favorite musicians, Trevor Hall. About a year ago, I had the opportunity to see Trevor Hall live in Columbus. For those of you who don't know Trevor Hall, he is known for his rather soothing acoustic music. Still, on his last record, he decided to incorporate more acoustic percussion and just an overall bigger sound, which opened up a door for Jeff Martin. Shortly after that, Jeff would find himself touring all across America, playing some of the biggest venues in the country with Trevor. In between tours, you will discover jeff in Columbus, Ohio, working out of his home studio where he has recorded several different local and national acts. In today's interview, we discuss what Jeff is doing with his time in isolation. We talk about what manifested his love for recording music and how it all started when he was 17 with an old MacBook, mixing board, and a box of his father's SM57 microphones. We talk about some of the lessons he has learned and how moving out to LA for music made him recognize you have to be more adaptable to make this a career. We talk about how he got his big break with Trevor Hall and some of his experiences with touring and recording Trevor Hall's latest single at his home studio here in Columbus. Lastly, we discuss his most significant zero to one moment and how touring with Trevor has enabled him to be in a place where he can be more stable.
