The Thing You Want Isn't The Thing: The Missing Piece in Manifestation

Manifestation Mastery: Why Your Goals Aren’t Coming Fast Enough (And How to Change That)What if the thing you want isn’t actually the thing you’re looking for? We spend so much time focusing on what we want to achieve that we rarely stop to ask ourselves what we believe achieving it will give us. A new career. Financial freedom. A million followers. Recognition. Success. But underneath every goal is a deeper desire, and understanding that desire might be the missing piece in your manifestation process. In this episode of The Collected Identity, I’m sharing a shift in perspective that changed how I approach goals, happiness, and manifestation. Drawing from my own experience transitioning out of a 22-year career, I’ll walk you through a practical process for creating momentum toward your future while learning to find fulfillment exactly where you are. Because the secret isn’t just getting what you want. It’s learning how to experience what you’re looking for before you get there. In This Episode, We Explore:Why manifestation can feel like it’s taking forever: How instant gratification, unrealistic expectations, and focusing on the finish line can leave you feeling defeated. The importance of getting specific: Why defining your goals and giving them a timeframe creates clarity and helps you recognize progress. The want underneath the want: How to identify the emotional experience you’re actually seeking through your goals.Finding fulfillment before the finish line: Why you don’t have to wait for your circumstances to change to experience success, recognition, or happiness. My personal career transformation: How I rediscovered what I loved about my career while preparing to leave it, and how those experiences became the foundation for what I’m doing today. The law of focus: How shifting your attention from what’s missing to what’s already working can change your perspective and build momentum.Building the bridge to your future: Why small, intentional actions matter just as much as the big vision. The power of a believable challenge: How setting goals that stretch you just beyond your comfort zone can reignite motivation.Creating evidence of your own success: Why acknowledging daily accomplishments helps you develop the confidence to pursue something bigger. Questions to Ask YourselfTake a moment to reflect on these questions. Better yet, grab a notebook and write down your answers. What is one big goal I’m currently working toward? Have I given myself a clear timeframe for achieving it?What do I believe achieving this goal will give me? Recognition? Freedom? Security? Happiness? A sense of being successful or valued?Where can I find evidence of that feeling in my life right now? What am I overlooking because I’m so focused on what hasn’t happened yet? What is one small action I can take today that connects my current reality to my bigger vision? How can I make that action just challenging enough to feel exciting but still achievable? At the end of the day, how will I recognize and celebrate the progress I’ve made? Your TakeawayThe thing you want isn’t always the thing you’re actually looking for. When you understand the feeling underneath your goal, you can begin creating opportunities to experience it right now. Get specific. Find the feeling. Look for the evidence. Take small, intentional actions. Challenge yourself just enough to build momentum. And remember, every step you take today can become another piece of the bridge connecting you to the life you’re creating. You don’t have to wait until you get there to start loving where you are. Reverse Engineering Your Mindset: Start With How You Want To Feel

What if the secret to a more successful, fulfilling day isn’t doing more, but being more intentional about what you do? In this episode of The Collected Identity, I’m sharing a few simple daily practices that have completely shifted how I approach my mornings, manage overwhelm, and follow through on the promises I make to myself. As a recovering perfectionist, people-pleaser, and lifelong overachiever, I know how easy it is to set the bar impossibly high and then beat yourself up when you don’t reach it. But what if we measured success by how we feel at the end of the day, instead of how many boxes we checked? In this episode, we’re talking about: Why the first 30 minutes of your morning matter. How setting fewer goals can actually help you accomplish more.Using your intuition to identify what truly deserves your energy and attention. The connection between physical action, emotional intention, and creating the life you want. Why recognizing how you feel after following through is such an important part of building new habits. How perfectionism and negative self-talk can create more overwhelm than the things we’re trying to accomplish.Giving yourself permission to get off track without making it mean you’ve failed. A few questions to sit with: ✨ What are the two most important things I can do for myself today? ✨ How do I actually want to feel when my head hits the pillow tonight? ✨ Am I setting myself up for success, or am I setting expectations that leave me feeling like I’m never doing enough? Sometimes the smallest changes create the biggest shifts. And sometimes the most important thing we can do is stop being so hard on ourselves. If this episode resonated with you, share it with someone who needs permission to slow down, leave a review, or send me a message. I’d love to hear what small habits have made a difference in your life. Thank you for being here and being part of The Collected Identity. Followers, Fame and Fulfillment: Rethinking Success

When did being good at what you do stop feeling like enough? For so many of us in the beauty industry, success used to be about the work: becoming great at your craft, building relationships, earning a reputation, showing up, and doing the job well. Then at some point the markers changed. Followers. PR lists. Brand deals. Celebrity clients. Likes. Views. Visibility. And without realizing it, we started using those things not just to measure our careers — but to measure ourselves. In this episode of The Collected Identity, I’m exploring what happens when a neutral fact about your career quietly becomes a belief about who you are. We get into: • How social media has changed the way we measure success in the beauty industry • Why being great at your craft can suddenly feel like it’s no longer enough • How “I don’t have enough followers” becomes “I’m not relevant” • Why not getting PR, brand deals, or certain clients can start to feel like evidence of your worth • The difference between a fact and the identity we attach to that fact • How comparison pulls our attention away from what is actually unique about us • Why someone else’s success doesn’t have to become evidence of what you lack • What changes when we start measuring success through artistry, connection, impact, and the people actually in front of us A few questions to sit with: What are the actual facts of your career right now — without the story you’ve attached to them? Where have you turned “this hasn’t happened for me” into “there must be something wrong with me”? And if followers, likes, PR, titles, clients, and external recognition disappeared from the equation, what evidence would still exist that you are good at what you do? Artificial Beauty: When Self-Improvement Becomes Self Replacement

When did enhancing ourselves become the expectation and when does self-improvement cross the line into self-replacement? In this episode of The Collected Identity, Michelle explores the increasingly blurred line between natural beauty and artificial perfection, and the subconscious impact of constantly being shown faces, bodies, and standards that aren’t always real. Drawing from more than two decades inside the beauty industry, Michelle reflects on the evolution from social-media filters to fillers, injectables, cosmetic procedures and now AI-generated faces—and asks an important question: What happens to the way we see ourselves when the version we’re comparing ourselves to doesn’t actually exist? This isn’t about judging anyone for Botox, fillers, cosmetic procedures, filters or wanting to change something about themselves. It’s about becoming conscious of why we feel the need to change—and recognizing when the pursuit of improvement begins pulling us further away from ourselves. In this episode, we explore: How social-media filters changed the way we learned to see our own facesThe progression from filters to fillers and the normalization of constant enhancementWhy AI-generated models and faces create an entirely new kind of unattainable beauty standardWhat happens when young people begin comparing themselves to people who don’t actually existThe subconscious message beneath so much beauty marketing: you could always be betterWhy natural is not inferior—and artificial is not automatically superiorThe never-ending cycle of finding the next flaw to fixHow anti-aging language teaches us to view the natural signs of living as something to preventWhat Michelle witnessed after 20+ years working with celebrities, models and some of the world’s most celebrated facesWhy access to every beauty treatment doesn’t necessarily create self-loveThe difference between genuine self-expression and changing ourselves because we believe we’re not enoughHow repeated exposure to perfected imagery can change the way we experience our unfiltered reflectionThe danger of allowing technology to replace our own intuition and internal guidanceWhy the question may eventually shift from “Do I look good?” to “What can I improve next?”The moment self-improvement becomes self-replacementHow radical self-acceptance can become an act of reclaiming our powerWhy our emotions, imperfections, expressions and humanity may ultimately be the very things worth protecting A question to sit with Think back to the first time you used a beauty filter. How did you feel when you saw the filtered version of yourself? And more importantly: How did you feel when you took the filter off? Now consider how that relationship has changed over time. How do you feel when you look in the mirror? How do you feel when someone takes an unfiltered photo of you? How much of what you believe needs “fixing” actually came from you—and how much of it was taught to you? You don’t need to answer immediately. Just notice. The takeaway We don’t have to reject beauty, technology or self-expression in order to question the systems influencing the way we see ourselves. We can become more conscious of what we’re consuming, more discerning about what we’re allowing into our subconscious, and more intentional about the relationship we’re building with ourselves. Because the goal isn’t perfection. It’s being able to recognize yourself—and feel at home when you do. If this episode resonated with you… Share it with someone who has ever struggled with comparison, beauty standards, aging or feeling like they need to change themselves in order to be enough. And this week, pay attention to what you’re consuming. Notice what makes you feel more connected to yourself—and what makes you immediately start searching for something to fix. The more we come back to ourselves, the more we reclaim our autonomy, our intuition and our ability to decide for ourselves what beauty actually means. You're Doing Everything Right: Why Isn't It Working?

Stop Being Your Own Worst Critic: How Self-Criticism Shapes What You CreateWhat if the very thing standing between you and what you want isn’t your lack of experience, talent, effort, or worthiness, but the way you’re speaking to yourself? In this episode of The Collected Identity, Michelle explores the hidden connection between self-criticism, judgment, and the life we create. After years of wondering why working harder, gaining more experience, and “doing all the right things” didn’t automatically lead to the next opportunity, Michelle began recognizing something deeper: the subtle judgments and criticisms running in the background were shaping the way she saw herself—and, in turn, the way she experienced the world. This episode is an invitation to notice those seemingly insignificant thoughts differently. Instead of treating judgment as something to feel guilty about, what if you could use it as information—a breadcrumb leading you back to the beliefs you hold about yourself? Michelle shares a simple practice for identifying those patterns, tracing them back to the areas of your own life where they may exist, and beginning to rewrite the internal script. Because creating the life you want isn’t only about believing you deserve more. It’s also about noticing all the tiny ways you may still be telling yourself that you don’t. In This Episode 00:00 — Why Experience Doesn’t Always Equal Opportunity Why having the experience, talent, or qualifications doesn’t necessarily mean the opportunities you want will automatically arrive—and the question Michelle spent years asking herself: I’ve done the work. Why isn’t it happening? 03:00 — The Script We’re Writing Without Realizing It Revisiting the Law of Reflections and the idea that the way we see ourselves becomes part of the energetic “script” we carry into our careers, relationships, opportunities, and everyday experiences. 05:00 — The Hidden Cost of Being Hard on Yourself How ambition, responsibility, and personal growth can quietly turn into self-blame—and why self-criticism can become one of our biggest blind spots. 07:00 — Self-Responsibility vs. Self-Blame There is an important difference between recognizing your role in creating your life and deciding everything that goes wrong is your fault. Michelle shares how learning to pause before falling into old patterns changed the way she responds to setbacks. 10:00 — When Subconscious Self-Criticism Gets Louder Why seemingly harmless thoughts like I should be further along, I should work harder, or I’m not doing enough can begin to spill into other areas of our lives. 11:00 — Your Judgments Are Breadcrumbs The practical tool at the heart of this episode: start noticing your judgments. Instead of immediately dismissing them, get curious about what they may be revealing about the way you see yourself. 13:00 — What Judging Other People Can Reveal About You How our reactions to other people can act as mirrors—and why looking at those reactions differently can create more compassion for both ourselves and others. 14:00 — A Real-Life Example: “They Don’t Know What They’re Talking About” Michelle walks through an everyday social-media judgment and demonstrates how to turn it inward to uncover the underlying belief or imbalance it may be pointing toward. 16:00 — The Tiny Thoughts Running on Autopilot Some of our most revealing beliefs aren’t dramatic. They’re the fleeting thoughts we barely notice. Learning to catch those thoughts can offer powerful information about what’s happening beneath the surface. 19:00 — How Self-Criticism Can Show Up in Your Career Feeling blocked, overlooked, passed over for a promotion, struggling to attract clients, or wondering why the next opportunity isn’t arriving? Michelle explores how the internal script we carry may influence how we experience those moments. 20:00 — Rewriting the Script What changes when you stop reinforcing the belief that you aren’t enough and begin embodying a genuine belief in your own worth, capability, and deservingness? 22:00 — Using the Eight Areas of Life to Find the Root Once you notice a judgment, where is it actually coming from? Michelle explains how tracing it back to an area of your own life can help uncover the deeper message underneath the emotion. 24:00 — The Connection Between Judgment and Self-Love Why unconditional self-love requires making room for the parts of ourselves we’re still working on—and how Michelle continues to practice this while building The Collected Identity. 26:00 — Let Yourself Off the Hook A simple practice to take with you: identify one thing you’re consistently hard on yourself about and begin changing the way you speak to yourself about it. Even one less negative thought is a shift. The Takeaway Stop being your own worst critic. Notice the judgments. Follow the breadcrumbs. Ask what they might be showing you about yourself. Then, instead of using what you discover as another reason to criticize yourself, use it as an opportunity to change the script. Give yourself grace. Let yourself off the hook. And remember: the way you see and speak to yourself matters. You are not only responding to your life. You are participating in its creation. How To Find Your Soul's Purpose: Burnout, Soul Path And The Breadcrumbs Your Missing

What if the career you’ve built isn’t wrong—but it also isn’t the fullest expression of what you’re here to do? In this episode of The Collected Identity, Michelle explores the idea of your Soul Path / Soul Pull—the unique collection of experiences, skills, challenges, relationships, and lessons that may be guiding you toward your deeper purpose. We often assume that feeling uninspired by our work means we’re burned out or that it’s time to completely change careers. But burnout isn’t always about the job itself. Sometimes we’re asking our careers to provide the fulfillment that’s missing from other areas of our lives. And sometimes, the deeper issue is that we’ve outgrown the way we’re currently using our gifts. Michelle shares how her own decades-long career in makeup ultimately became a breadcrumb. The makeup mattered—but underneath it was something even more important: connecting with people, intuitively understanding them, helping them feel confident, and supporting them as they stepped into important moments in their lives. Those were clues. Because your purpose may not be found simply by looking at your résumé. It may be hiding in the experiences that never made it onto the résumé at all. The challenges you overcame. The things you taught yourself. The patterns you broke. The people you naturally know how to help. The skills that seem almost effortless to you. When you begin looking at your entire life as experience—not just your professional accomplishments—you may start seeing the breadcrumbs that have been pointing toward your Soul Path all along. In this episode, we explore: The difference between career burnout and deeper misalignmentWhy fulfillment can’t come from your career aloneThe eight areas of life and how imbalance in one can affect anotherWhat Michelle means by Soul Path / Soul PullWhy your lived experiences may matter just as much as your professional experienceHow challenges, relationships and circumstances become breadcrumbsWhy the things you’ve mastered personally may become something you’re meant to shareMichelle’s realization that makeup was never really just about makeupHow to recognize when your gifts may be underutilizedWhy your purpose doesn’t necessarily require reaching millions of peopleQuestions to help you identify what makes your contribution uniquely yoursHow following the breadcrumbs can begin moving you closer to the work you’re here to do Questions to sit with after this episode Is what I’m doing right now original? How could I make what I do more me? What have my lived experiences uniquely prepared me to do? Is there something about the way I do this that only I can do? How could what I’ve learned change someone else’s life? Your Soul Path may not require throwing away everything you’ve already built. The career, relationships, hardships, successes, mistakes, interests and seemingly unrelated experiences you’ve collected may be the very things preparing you for it. Sometimes you’re not starting over. You’re finally beginning to understand what all the breadcrumbs were leading you toward. Have a question about Soul Path / Soul Pull?
