The Power of “Yes, And” When Life Happens | Dr. Rachel Goldman PhD and Anne Taylor Hartzell

In improv, “Yes, and” is the simple rule that keeps the story moving. It can help us keep moving when life happens, too. Dr. Rachel Goldman PhD, clinical psychologist, NYU professor, mom, and author of When Life Happens, joins Anne to share how flexible thinking has shaped her life and career. Rachel began college studying dance science, but witnessing young women struggle with disordered eating changed the direction of her studies. She earned her PhD in clinical psychology and later left her hospital career to build a clinical practice that gave her greater flexibility as she started her family. Along the way, Rachel grew a platform that has led to opportunities with Oprah, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and national broadcasts and on stages as a trusted mental health expert. Rachel teaches you how to use the power of “Yes, and,” build a resilience toolkit before you need it, and make choices that fit the life you are living now. She also reminds us that choosing adventure can be as simple as putting on your running shoes or having an impromptu dance party in the kitchen. Beyond the Boardroom: Erik Blachford on Adventure, Change, and Resilience

Episode 2: Beyond the Boardroom – Erik Blachford on Adventure, Change, and Resilience In this episode, I sit down with Erik Blachford—early Expedia founder and CEO, board member, advisor and investor to talk about navigating change, taking risks, and getting outside your comfort zone. Erik shares stories from the early days of building Expedia, his passion for building ventures and outdoor adventures, and his passion for helping leaders and the moment he got a quiet nudge to make a pivot in his career that changed everything.  One of my favorite takeaways? “Have all the plans you want—but know they’re written in sand. Don’t get upset when the tide comes in.” If you’re in a season of uncertainty, this conversation is a reminder to stay curious, stay connected, and be patient with the process, especially in difficult times. Erik Blachford has led companies through M&A, sat on public and venture-backed boards like Zillow, Peloton, Hipcamp and Glassdoor, and invested in startups across travel, marketplaces, and consumer tech and helps leaders, early-stage founders, think through go-to-market, scale, and staying focused under pressure. 📖 Get the book:All Who Wander: A Guide to Finding Your Path in Seasons of Change 🎤 Book Anne to speak at your next event: annetaylorhartzell.com/speaking 💌 Join me over on Substack for The Second Half of the Trip Enjoying All Who Wander?
