Out the Margins

So good! Thank you for sharing these perspective in education. I enjoyed listening to her perspective as a Jamaican-American student and now an educator! I hate the pushback and to hear the ATTEMPTS at invalidating her knowledge and expertise but hopefully, this will make other black folks in education feel affirmed and maybe cause some introspection by their white counterpart. I'm not going to lie, it was triggering listening to this episode due to my experiences in educational spaces that were white dominated in authority, instruction, and culture. I could relate to Jakia's experiences and the process of having to rethink and relearn things related to our blackness. As well as, having to supplement our “education” with more that wasn’t taught to us or our community because it was seen as an alternative to mainstream education. These shared experiences, I’ll always keep with me.

Wonderful and it’s informative, inspirational.
