The latest on Newey's F1 future, plus Antonelli's possible Williams shot

The latest on Newey's F1 future, plus Antonelli's possible Williams shot

After a weekend of trawling the paddock in Miami, Mark Hughes joins Edd Straw and Glenn Freeman to discuss the latest on Red Bull's soon-to-be-departing tech supremo, Adrian Newey. Included within that discussion are a host of questions from The Race Members' Club, including one on whether Newey could end up working for either F1 or the FIA if he doesn't join another team. There's also an update about how Newey's departure might impact Max Verstappen's future, with Mark bringing us rumours of possible mixed feelings in the Verstappen camp.
Plus, the Edd, Mark and Glenn discuss how likely it is that Mercedes protégé Kimi Antonelli will make an early F1 debut, stepping in for the underperforming Logan Sargeant at Williams. And in a nod to the past, they also answer a question about the controversial 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, which relates to today.

On this exclusive members' podcast, The Race's Sam Smith is joined by Le Mans winner and former F1 driver Allan McNish to discuss what made Ayrton Senna so special. McNish is in a better position than most to comment on the topic, having worked extremely closely with Senna during his three-year spell as McLaren's F1 test driver in the early 1990s. In this poignant conversation, recorded shortly before the 30th anniversary of Senna's tragic passing, McNish shares his observations of watching the great man at work, what he learned, and what left him in awe.

Adrian Newey's Red Bull exit - All you need to know

It's official: Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull Racing. Newey, the team's chief technical officer, will step back from F1 design duties this year and instead focus on Red Bull's RB17 hypercar project before leaving Red Bull altogether in early 2025. But why is Newey leaving? Will he end up joining a rival F1 team? And how will Red Bull cope with the loss of one of F1's most celebrated design geniuses? These are just some of the questions tackled by Edd Straw and guests Glenn Freeman and Josh Suttill.

I love listening to Edd et al while I deliver parcels. Great insight and analysis without the press release phoniness of most sport journalism. Love it!

Spoiled Miami race results in title

I find it shocking that these guys are F1 accredited journalists while the Missed Apex team are not and they’re producing much better content despite being enthusiasts working from home and generally not on site. Edd Straw’s intros are typically contradictory both sides type comments of no actual value. I wanted to try what I thought was a new F1 podcast and gave these guys a few episodes to impress me but no. Continuing on my previous comments, in today’s post-Suzuki pod, Scott Mitchell-Malm manages to get the facts wrong by his third sentence - sooner than usual. The red flag was thrown 1 second before Gasley saw the truck on track (or at least it was visible in the replay). Gasley was moving well slower than typical traffic through that section but was chasing the pack of cars following his safety car pit stop. I really don’t understand why these guys are considered professional journalists, they’re more than happy to opine without facts about other aspects of this very controversial race where Verstappen won the title. This isn’t journalism, this is punditry, which is possibly the worst insult I could throw. Again, the Missed Apex team is more professional, had more sourced facts about the various controversies, and generally provided more interesting technical roundup despite The Race having Gary Anderson, who, let’s face it, just mumbles and rambles when given the chance to answer questions, which generally he doesn’t actually answer. He should be off mic and his commentary filtered by two humans and then reported, instead.
