AI DRUG DISCOVERY & BIOMARKER FOR HUMAN LONGEVITY - ALEXEY STRYGIN - GEROSENSE.AI

Alexey Strygin is the Chief Digital Health Officer of Gero.ai and is leading Gerosense.ai, a digital biomarker for measuring biological age and enabling digital trials in humans at a drastically lower cost. Previously Alexey served as co-founder and CEO of Gray Matter. This company was developing therapeutic peptides solving age-related cognitive decline and longevity, CEO of Cryno Biotech, a company developing a novel GLP-1 agonist. Early team member of Insilico Medicine and Centaura. GERO is a biotechnology company using physics-based generative models on human health record datasets, combined with AI-guided drug design, to develop transformative interventions for aging and age-related diseases. To achieve this goal, GERO acquired a massive dataset of longitudinal, real-world medical records and built a generative, very large model of human health. The model is based on principles adopted from the physics of complex and dynamic systems and reveals the irreversible nature of human aging while highlighting the reversible aspects of diseases, and distinguishing the two phenomena. It also reveals causal relationships between microscopic molecular- and organism-level features associated with diseases to enable rapid targeting and drug discovery, directly in human data. GERO’s preclinical-stage drug candidate demonstrates promising potential in addressing a diverse spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases. A separate ongoing drug discovery project to develop an anti-aging vaccine, instrumental in the treatment of senescence-associated diseases, has resulted in one of the most robust mice rejuvenation results globally. GERO’s other earlier stage highly ambitious project aims to identify a drug aimed at significantly decelerating the aging process. Major Gen. (Res.) Professor Isaac Ben-Israel joined the Israel Air Force (IAF) after graduating high school (1967) and has served continuously up to his retirement (2002). During his service, Isaac Ben-Israel has held several posts in operations, intelligence and weapon development units of the IAF. He headed the IAF Operations Research Branch, Analysis and Assessment Division of IAF Intelligence, and was the Head of Military R&D in Israel Defence Forces and Ministry of Defence (1991-1997). In January 1998 he was promoted to Major General and appointed as Director of Defence R&D Directorate in IMOD. During his service he received twice the Israeli Defence Award. After retirement from the IDF Isaac Ben Israel joined the University of Tel-Aviv as a professor and was the head of Curiel Centre for International Studies (2002-2004), the head of the Program for Security Studies (2004-2007), Executive Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Technological Analysis & Forecasting at Tel-Aviv University (ICTAF) (2010-2013), Deputy Director of the Hartog School of Government and Policy in Tel-Aviv University (2005-2015) and a member of Jaffe Centre for Strategic Studies (2002-2004). In 2002 he founded and headed the Yuval Ne’eman Workshop for Science, Technology and Security. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Ariel University Centre (2009-2011), and a member of the advisory council of Neaman Institute for Advanced Studies in Science and Technology at the Technion (2000-2010). Professor Ben-Israel was a member of the 17th Knesset (Israeli Parliament) between June 2007 and February 2009. During this period he was a member of the Security and Foreign Affairs Committee, the Finance Committee, the Science & Technology committee, the Chairman of the Homeland Security Sub Committee and the Chairman of the Israeli–Indian Parliamentary Friendship Association. In 2011 he was appointed by the Prime Minister to lead a task force that formulated Israel national Cyber policy. Following that he founded the National Cyber Headquarters in the PM Office. In 2014 he was appointed again by the PM to lead another task force which resulted in a government decision (February 2015) to set up a new National Cyber Authority. #ai #artificialintelligence #aiforgood Mayank Kejriwal is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and a Research Lead at the USC Information Sciences Institute. His research has been funded by programs such as DARPA LORELEI, CauseEx, MEMEX (covered in the press by 60 minutes, Forbes, Scientific American, WSJ, BBC, Wired and several others for its success in spawning real-world systems for tackling human trafficking), AIDA and D3M projects. Prior to joining ISI in 2016, he obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His dissertation, titled "Populating a Linked Data Entity Name System", was awarded the Best Dissertation Award by the Semantic Web Science Association in 2017. He is also the author of "Domain-specific Knowledge Graph Construction" (Springer), which has been downloaded thousands of times in the last year and is available internationally. Dr. Kejriwal is a passionate advocate of using Artificial Intelligence technology for social good, and regularly collaborates with domain-experts to build such systems. He has given talks and tutorials in international academic and industrial venues, most recently serving as a roundtable speaker and participant (on using AI for fighting child trafficking) at the Concordia Summit that was co-held with the UN General Assembly in New York City in September, 2019. Therein, he was co-author of a multi-organization whitepaper on using AI to fight child trafficking. #biowarfare #biotechnology #biosecurity Piers D. Millett, Ph.D. is Executive Director of the International Biosecurity and Biosafety Initiative for Science (IBBIS). Dr. Millett is a certified biorisk management professional, with a specialization in biosecurity. Dr. Millett was Deputy Head of the Implementation Support Unit for the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), a treaty for which he worked for over a decade. He has consulted for the World Health Organization, supporting its integration of research and development into responses to public health emergencies and considering the health implications of advances in technology. As Vice President for Responsibility for iGEM Foundation (International Genetically Engineered Machines Competition), Dr. Millett established and ran a program strengthening the culture of responsibility and risk management with more than 350 projects each year, involving more than 6,000 young scientists and engineers from 45 countries across every inhabited continent. Trained originally as a microbiologist, Dr. Millett has worked closely with the citizen science movement, synthetic biologists, the biotechnology industry as well as national and international policymakers and decision-makers. He has collaborated with a range of intergovernmental organizations spanning human and animal health, humanitarian law, disarmament, security, border control, law enforcement, and weapons of mass destruction— both inside and out of the United Nations system. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and Affairs, an MRes in Research Methodology, and an MA in International Politics and Security Studies—all from the University of Bradford.
