Romans Series: Am I Right With God?

This week at Zion, Executive Pastor Anthony Rivera continued our series, Romans: The Gospel Changes Everything, with a message titled Am I Right With God? from Romans 5. Paul answers one of the most important questions we can ask: How do I know I'm right with God? The good news is that our standing with God is not based on our performance, but on our faith in Jesus Christ. Through Him, we have been justified, given peace with God, access to the Father, and a firm place to stand in His grace. We explored three powerful truths: We don't live for acceptance, we live from acceptance. Because of Jesus, we no longer have to strive for God's approval. We have full access to our Heavenly Father and can approach Him with confidence.Affliction doesn't get the final word. Romans 5 reminds us that suffering is part of life, but God uses it to produce endurance, character, and hope. Our circumstances may be real, but they don't have to define us because we are being filled and formed by Christ. The cross settles what our circumstances cannot. When we question whether God loves us, Paul points us back to the cross. Romans 5:8 reminds us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God's love was proven long before we had anything to offer Him.Drawing from Hebrews 12:2, Anthony shared a powerful reminder: the joy set before Jesus as He endured the cross was us. He willingly endured suffering because He loved us and desired to bring us back into relationship with the Father. The message concluded with a challenge to remember the blood of Christ. When life feels uncertain, when suffering feels overwhelming, and when we wonder where we stand with God, we can look to the cross and remember what Jesus has already done. Because of Him, we can trust God with our future and rest in the assurance that we have been made right with Him. Romans Series: Everybody Needs Grace

This week at Zion, Pastor Jon continued our series, This week at Zion, Pastor Jon continued our series, Romans: The Gospel Changes Everything, with a message titled Everybody Needs Grace from Romans 1-3. As Paul builds his case for the gospel, he reminds us of a humbling truth: no matter our background, our morality, or our religious experience, we all need the grace of God. We explored three powerful truths: 1. Sin is an exchange. We often trade the Creator for created things, placing our hope, identity, and security in success, relationships, comfort, approval, or control instead of God. 2. Comparison is a trap. It's easy to point out sin in others while overlooking our own need for grace. Paul reminds us that self-righteousness cannot save us any more than rebellion can. 3. Everybody needs rescue. Romans 3 brings us to the same conclusion: "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard." No one is righteous on their own, and no one can earn their way to God. Through a personal story of being caught in a rip current while trying to rescue others, Pastor Jon illustrated a powerful gospel reality: we often think we're the rescuers, only to discover we're the ones who need saving. The good news is that Jesus came to do for us what we could never do for ourselves. The message culminated in the hope-filled words of Romans 3:24: "Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight." Grace is not earned. It is a gift. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God offers forgiveness, freedom, and a restored relationship with Him. The challenge this week is simple: identify anything that has taken God's place in your heart, lay down comparison and pride, and receive the grace that Jesus freely offers. We all stand on level ground at the foot of the cross, and we all need a Savior. Romans Series: Unashamed

This week at Zion, Pastor Jon kicked off our new series, Romans: The Gospel Changes Everything, with a message titled Unashamed from Romans 1:16. In a world that constantly tells us to try harder and do more, Paul reminds us that true transformation comes through the power of the gospel, not through self-improvement. We explored three powerful truths: The gospel is good news—not good advice. Jesus has already done for us what we could never do for ourselves (Romans 1:1-4). The gospel has power—the power to save, heal, forgive, and transform lives from the inside out (Romans 1:16). The gospel is for everyone—not everyone who behaves perfectly, but everyone who believes. Pastor Jon also shared his personal story of finding freedom from shame, performance, and hidden struggles through the grace of Jesus. Through Romans 8:1, he reminded us that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” The challenge was simple: don't let the gospel become familiar. Let it remain fresh, personal, and powerful in your life. When we truly experience God's grace for ourselves, we can't help but share it with others. This message is part of Romans: The Gospel Changes Everything, a nine-week journey through one of the most influential books of the Bible, exploring how the good news of Jesus transforms every area of our lives. This We Believe: End Times

This week at Zion, Pastor Jon closed our This We Believe series with a clear and hope‑filled message on the End Times. Instead of fear or confusion, Scripture anchors us in confidence: “This same Jesus… will come back.” (Acts 1:11) His return is personal, certain, and visible. Pastor Jon shared Zion’s pre‑tribulational, premillennial view—held with conviction and humility—while reminding us that faithful Christians may differ on the timeline but unite around the truth that the King is coming. We explored three ways believers are called to live until Jesus returns: We watch—guarding the state of our soul.We work—faithfully stewarding our lives because “your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”  We witness—urgently sharing Jesus with those who have not yet found Him.Pastor Jon encouraged each of us to ask God for one person who needs the hope of Jesus. The message is urgent, the mission is clear, and our hope is secure. This message is part of This We Believe: Exploring the Essential Truths That Shape Our Faith and Who We Are, a series on the authority of Scripture, who God is, the person and work of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the Church, and our mission in the world. This We Believe: Naturally Supernatural Ministry

This week at Zion, Executive Pastor Anthony Rivera continued our This We Believe series by opening scripture to explore what the Bible teaches about Naturally Supernatural Ministry. Throughout Scripture, we see that God is always at work—and often far closer than we realize. Like the servant in 2 Kings 6, whose eyes were opened to see the chariots of fire already surrounding him, Pastor Anthony reminded us that the supernatural life begins with learning to see what God is doing right in front of us. Jesus makes this invitation clear in John 14:12, teaching that those who believe in Him will participate in His works. The qualification isn’t gifting, status, or spiritual achievement—it’s simply faith. And in John 14:16–17, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit will be both with us and in us forever, empowering ordinary believers to live out extraordinary faith in everyday places. Pastor Anthony shared how God’s supernatural work often comes with tension—moments of miraculous breakthrough and moments of deep wrestling. But the heart of the message is simple: miracles are never the destination; Jesus is. The supernatural life isn’t about becoming powerful; it’s about becoming available to the Spirit who already lives within us. This message is part of This We Believe: Exploring the Essential Truths That Shape Our Faith and Who We Are, a series on the authority of Scripture, who God is, the person and work of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the Church, and our mission in the world. This We Believe: Women In Ministry

This week at Zion, Pastor Jon continued our This We Believe series by opening Scripture to explore what the Bible teaches about Women in Ministry. From Genesis to the early church, we see God consistently calling and empowering women as image‑bearers, leaders, teachers, and partners in His mission. Pastor Jon reminded us that women are not an afterthought in God’s story—they are essential contributors to His kingdom. We looked at examples like Deborah, Esther, Mary of Bethany, the Samaritan woman, and the women who first proclaimed the resurrection. At Pentecost, the Spirit was poured out on sons and daughters (Acts 2:17–18), making it clear that a Spirit‑filled church must make room for every gift God gives. The heart of the message is simple: at Zion, we believe biblically qualified women may preach, teach, lead, pastor, and serve—not because culture demands it, but because Scripture reveals it. Our prayer is that every person would encounter Jesus, experience His love, and discover the joy of living according to His good design. This message is part of This We Believe: Exploring the Essential Truths That Shape Our Faith and Who We Are, a series on the authority of Scripture, who God is, the person and work of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the Church, and our mission in the world. This We Believe: Freedom Ministry

What does it mean to be truly free? In a world where wounds, habits, and hidden battles often feel normal, Pastor Jon reminds us that Jesus didn’t come to help us manage captivity—He came to bring us out. As He said in John 8:36, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” In this message from our This We Believe series, Pastor Jon explores the biblical foundation of freedom through John 8, Luke 4, and Colossians 1. Freedom wasn’t a side project for Jesus—it was central to His ministry. He forgave sin, healed bodies, restored dignity, and confronted darkness everywhere He went. And He still sets people free today. Pastor Jon also spoke pastorally to the reality we all face: salvation happens in a moment, but freedom is learned through surrender. Many of us have normalized patterns, wounds, or destructive habits, but Jesus wants access to every “room” of our lives—not to expose us, but to heal us. He walked us through a simple pathway toward freedom: Recognize, Repent, Renounce, Receive, and Resist. This message is part of This We Believe: Exploring the Essential Truths That Shape Our Faith and Who We Are, a series on the authority of Scripture, who God is, the person and work of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit, the purpose of the Church, and our mission in the world. This We Believe: Baptism of the Holy Spirit

What does it mean to be empowered by the Holy Spirit? In a world that often feels heavy, confusing, and spiritually dry, Jaclyn Soza reminds us that God never intended His people to live without power. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit isn’t an upgrade for the “super spiritual”—it’s the promise of Jesus for every believer. As Jaclyn said, “Everybody gets to participate in what God is pouring out.” In this message from our This We Believe series, Jaclyn explores the biblical foundation of Spirit baptism through Acts 1, Acts 2, and Matthew 3. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just dwell in us for salvation—He comes upon us for mission, boldness, freedom, and kingdom impact. “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you,” Jesus said, and Jaclyn shows how that same power is available to us today. From Elijah’s mantle to Pentecost, Scripture paints a clear picture: God empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things. She also speaks pastorally to every season of life—whether you’re hungry for more of God, wrestling with disappointment, or stepping into new faith—reminding us that hunger and surrender position us to receive everything God desires to pour out. The baptism of the Holy Spirit isn’t optional; it’s essential for living fully alive in the kingdom. This We Believe: Sexuality & Gender

Who has the authority to define who we are? In a culture where identity is often shaped by feelings, desires, and shifting opinions, Pastor Jon reminds us that our truest identity isn’t discovered within—it’s received from our Creator. Because God made us, He alone defines us. In this message from our This We Believe series, Pastor Jon explores the biblical foundation of sexuality and gender through Genesis 1 and 1 Corinthians 6. Our bodies aren’t random or accidental—they carry meaning, dignity, and design. As Pastor Jon said, “A mirror can show you what you look like…but it cannot reveal your identity.” He also spoke to every season of life—whether you’re navigating questions, carrying wounds, or walking with loved ones—reminding us that temptation is not the same as sin, and that grace doesn’t affirm everything we feel; grace redeems everything we surrender. True freedom begins when we belong fully to Jesus. This We Believe: Biblical Marriage

What is marriage really meant to carry? In a culture where definitions shift and opinions collide, Pastor Jon reminds us that Biblical Marriage is not ours to redesign—it’s God’s creation, and because He created it, He alone defines it. In this message from our This We Believe series, Pastor Jon explores the biblical foundation of marriage through Jesus’ words in Matthew 19 and Genesis 2. Marriage is more than companionship—it’s a covenant, a union, and a picture of Christ’s faithful love for His people. As Pastor Jon said, “Marriage carries covenant… sexual faithfulness… families and future generations.” He also spoke pastorally to every season of life—married, single, divorced, or healing—reminding us that “you don’t need marriage to complete you. You need Jesus.” What we didn’t receive doesn’t have to determine what we get to build. With God’s grace, our homes and relationships can become testimonies of redemption and hope. This We Believe: Heaven & Hell

What are you building your life on? In a world full of shifting opinions and uncertainty, where can we find a foundation that never changes? In this message, Pastor John continues our series This We Believe by exploring eternity and the hope we have in Jesus. Scripture says God has planted eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11), and Jesus begins with comfort: “Don’t let your hearts be troubled… I’m going to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:1–3). Heaven is not about gates or streets of gold—it’s about being fully with God, whole and healed. Pastor John also spoke honestly about hell as eternal separation from God, reminding us that warnings are meant to rescue. At the cross, God’s holiness and love meet, and Jesus bridges the gap we could never cross ourselves. Because He rose from the grave, pain and death don’t get the final word—your best days are still ahead.
