Toon Lore Done Right: A Black cartoon, anime and animation podcast

David Hughes

The primary mission is to give a brief history of animation, talk about the impact it's had on my life and, whenever possible, illuminate the black and brown people and characters that make these shows possible. In each episode of Toon Lore Done Right (TLDR) I, your host Dave, take a film, tv show, character, or concept in animation to give you a brief yet detailed history on it. As a blerd, anime fan,and student of all things animation and a graduate from SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) I hope to spark discussion while giving my personal insight.

Dragon Ball and Beyond: My tribute to Akira Toriyama the legend

Hey there, it's been a while, hasn't it? I know I've been on a bit of a hiatus from the podcast, and I'm not fully back yet, but I couldn't let this moment pass without sharing something that's been weighing heavily on my heart. You see, recently we lost a true legend in the world of manga: Akira Toriyama. His passing hit me hard, harder than I expected, and I knew I had to take a moment to honor his memory. So, here I am, no scripts, no rehearsing, just me talking straight from the heart. This episode might be a bit rough around the edges, but I couldn't let this sensitive time slip by without expressing how much Toriyama's work has meant to me over the years. From Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball z, Dragon Ball Super, Sand Land, Dragon Quest and even GT, his creations have helped shaped my life and influenced my love for storytelling in ways I can't fully express. In fact it was my love for Dragon ball z that pushed me to even start podcasting! Recording this episode has been tough, to say the least. There's a heaviness in my chest as I speak, knowing that Toriyama's absence will be felt deeply in the world of manga. But amidst the sadness, I find solace in the fact that his legacy lives on through his incredible body of work. So here's to you, Akira Toriyama, thank you for everything. Your impact will never be forgotten. Music: Artist - Josh Kramer Song - Malinconia "Music licensed according to terms of use at Audiio.com/terms. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Anime classic of science, morality and faith

Welcome to Toon Lore Done Right! You can call me Dave the Tutor and today I will be tackling Anime for the first time on the show, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood! Well almost first, I did already do Cannon Busters, which was made by an African American man who has experience working in anime studios. At any rate, on this episode we dive into the dark, philosophical and action packed world of FMAB.  Full Metal Alchemist is one of those anime, along with Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, that just has a way of connecting to traditionally non-anime watchers.  FMAB takes us through an emotional journey of love, loss and sacrifice as the Elric brothers try to find the fabled philosophers stone! As we talk about there themes let's find out if you should skip it, try it, watch it or binge it! Be sure to follow me on the socials and leave a review!
