The Freedom for Öcalan campaign is a UK trade union-backed initiative to secure the release of imprisoned Kurdish political prisoner Abdullah Öcalan.In 2017 the annual meeting of the TUC voted unanimously for a motion calling for Mr Öcalan's immediate release and a return to peace talks between Turkey and representatives of the Kurdish people.This podcast is to keep supporters and affiliates up to date on the campaign and developments in the region.

Developed in part whilst Ocalan is subjected to the brutal and extreme isolation of Imrali prison Island, Democratic Confederalism is a radical form of grassroots democracy that represents a departure from the emphasis on statehood many liberation movements include.     Episode 2: Shavanah Taj - Turkeys deterioration into a police state

    In this episode, we speak to Shavanah Taj General Secretary of TUC Wales about her recent experience as part of an international peace delegation to Imrali island prison.  The delegation set out to petition the Turkish government to allow them to visit imprisoned Kurdish political leader Abdullah Ocalan, who has been detained at Turkeys equivalent of Robben Island for 21 years. The delegation was denied this basic human right but was able to meet with progressive unions and representatives of The People’s Democratic Party (HDP).
