SU145: The 7-Step Pathway to Profit: Cash Flow, Strategy & Growth with Michael Barbarita

Michael’s path to becoming a fractional CFO and business strategist wasn't a straight line. After studying accounting at Babson College and beginning his career as a financial analyst, he went on to build and operate several businesses. One of his early successes came from Ski Town USA, which he helped grow from $2.5 million to $8 million in five years. He shares the story of introducing a ski guarantee that dramatically reduced the perceived risk for customers and became a powerful lesson in creating an offer that people couldn't easily find elsewhere. He later built a frozen cookie dough business and found another unconventional way to create value: providing customers with a $200 convection oven with their opening order. But Michael also experienced failure. When he started Freedom Therapy Center, he admits that he essentially copied what competitors were doing instead of creating something different. The business ultimately failed. That experience became an important lesson that shaped his approach today: You can't keep doing what your competition is doing. In 2007, Michael started Next Step CFO, bringing together his financial expertise and business strategy experience to help owners understand not only what their numbers are saying, but what those numbers mean for the decisions they need to make next. Throughout this conversation, Michael and Priyanka explore what it really takes to build a business that is profitable, scalable, and capable of giving the owner greater freedom, not simply another job that happens to have their name on it. What We ExploredCash Flow & Forecasting: Why profitability doesn't always mean cash in the bank, how receivables and payables affect cash flow, why order flow matters, and how forecasting helps answer, “Can I afford it?” before making major investments. The Conversion Formula: Michael's Captivate → Fascinate → Educate → Offer framework, including how to identify customer problems, create a unique solution, build compelling offers through risk reversal and added value, and sell the transformation rather than the transaction. The 80/20 Pathway to Profit: How focusing on the activities that actually drive revenue can transform a business, through Michael's Seven-Step Pathway to Profit—leads, conversions, closing, client retention, average dollar sale, frequency, and controlling costs.Unlocking Hidden Revenue & Knowing When to Get Help: How reactivating existing customers can create new revenue, the warning signs that a business has hit a wall, and when bringing in a fractional CFO can provide the financial and strategic clarity needed to move forward.AI as a Business Advantage: How Michael is using AI for campaigns, strategy, ideas, and financial work—and why learning to use and prompt one AI tool effectively can create meaningful leverage.Connect with MichaelMichael BarbaritaFounder, Next Step CFOAuthor of Powerful Business StrategiesCreator of the Seven-Step Pathway to Profit 🌐 Website: https://nextstepcfo.net Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelbarbarita/   About Show Up with Priyanka:Show Up With Priyanka is a Top 1% globally ranked podcast where we have conversations with heart-centered, soul-led entrepreneurs exploring leadership, healing, intentional living, and sustainable success. SU144: What Happens When the Life You Built No Longer Fits? with John Fletcher

In this episode, Priyanka and John have an honest and deeply personal conversation about purpose, healing, relationships, and the power of creating community. John reflects on how, from a young age, he knew he was meant to do something meaningful and had a natural desire to create, lead, and positively impact the people around him. But as life unfolded, marriage and divorce became a major detour from the path he once felt connected to. He shares how losing that sense of purpose led him through different experiences and pursuits, and how stepping away from that chapter of his life gave him the space to re-center, rediscover himself, and intentionally begin showing up for his purpose again. That renewed sense of purpose eventually led John to podcasting and to building The Common Ground Project USA, where his mission goes beyond simply bringing people together; it is about creating space for people to listen, disagree, and still recognize one another's value. Priyanka and John explore why meaningful connection requires us to move beyond judgment and defensiveness, and why continually stepping back to ask whether we are truly aligned with our purpose matters. They also talk about the realities of building something from the ground up, learning skills before delegating them, embracing support, and creating more capacity to focus on the work that matters most. The conversation also takes a deeply personal turn as they reflect on healing after unhealthy relationships and divorce. John shares why taking responsibility for your own growth matters, why loneliness should never be the reason to rush into another relationship, and why healing is not something we simply “finish,” but a lifelong process of discovering and working through new layers of ourselves. In This Episode, We Explore:Finding and Reconnecting With Purpose – John shares how he sensed from a young age that he was meant to create meaningful impact, how life took him away from that sense of purpose, and how divorce ultimately helped him re-center and reconnect with himself. Turning Personal Experiences Into Community and Connection – We explore how John's journey shaped The Common Ground Project USA and his mission to create spaces where people can disagree, listen, and still recognize each other's value and humanity. Learning, Delegating, and Growing as an Entrepreneur – John discusses the challenges of learning the technical side of podcasting, the importance of understanding a process before delegating it, and how delegation creates more capacity to focus on the work you're best at. Healing, Self-Reflection, and Relationships – John and Priyanka share honest reflections on healing after unhealthy relationships, taking responsibility for your own growth, resisting the urge to rush into another relationship, and giving yourself grace throughout the healing process. Living With Intention and Evolving With Your Purpose – The conversation comes back to continually asking whether you're truly aligned with your purpose, being willing to reevaluate your path, and creating more space to show up fully for the work and impact you're here to make. SU143: Building a Business Around Your Purpose, Creativity & Impact with Bryan McAnulty

In this episode, Priyanka and Bryan explore Bryan's journey from discovering design software at eight years old to becoming an entrepreneur, founder, creator, and builder of digital products used by thousands of creators around the world. Bryan shares how his curiosity, creativity, and desire to explore led him to start freelancing as a teenager, launch his first company, and eventually choose entrepreneurship over college.  He reflects on how traveling to more than 30 countries shaped his understanding of people, business, and himself, and how The 4-Hour Workweek gave him the belief that a different way of living and working was possible. Bryan explains why "freedom comes first" and shares his personal framework of agency, risk, and truth as the foundation of freedom.  The conversation explores the importance of taking risks, being truthful with yourself, believing in your ability to eventually get there, and finding problems worth solving rather than simply chasing money.  Bryan also shares what he has observed among successful creators, including the importance of persistence, launching before everything is perfect, learning from customers, and allowing your business and ideas to evolve as you do. He shares the story of creators who built a six-figure business teaching music theory for the hammer dulcimer, demonstrating that you don't need to pursue the biggest or most popular niche to create something meaningful and successful.  Priyanka and Bryan also discuss the role of systems, AI, and delegation in creating more freedom, allowing entrepreneurs to focus on their creativity, their customers, and the impact they want to make. Throughout the conversation, they return to a central question: What are you here to create, and are you willing to take the leap to bring it into the world? SU141: The Art of Selling a Business Without Losing Your Legacy with Gregory Kovsky

Building a successful business is often measured by revenue, growth, and profitability, but at a certain point, every entrepreneur is forced to ask a deeper question: what have I built that can survive and thrive without me? In this conversation, Gregory Kovsky draws on more than 30 years of experience in business brokerage and hundreds of completed transactions to explain what truly makes a privately held business valuable, transferable, and attractive to buyers. He reveals that a strong exit is never a last-minute decision; it is the result of years of intentional choices around leadership, systems, culture, and reducing owner dependency. We explore why entrepreneurs choose to sell, whether for freedom, retirement, a new direction, or because they realize their own capacity has become the ceiling of the business. Gregory breaks down what buyers actually look for beyond revenue, including management depth, operational continuity, employee stability, and whether the business can function without the founder at the center of every decision. A key theme throughout the conversation is the difference between owning a job and building a business that can operate independently. When everything depends on the owner, the business becomes harder to scale and even harder to transfer. But when leadership, systems, and culture are intentionally developed, the business becomes a true asset with long-term value. Gregory also shares the story of Stone Brothers, a company that grew from a garage startup into a low-eight-figure business. The owners ultimately chose to sell when they realized that taking the company further would require capabilities beyond their own, deciding to protect what they had built rather than let limitations define its future. The discussion also challenges a common assumption in exits: that the highest offer is always the best one. In reality, sellers often weigh factors like employee protection, cultural continuity, and legacy preservation just as heavily as price. A business, after all, is not just a financial asset; it represents people, relationships, and years of work. This episode ultimately reframes how entrepreneurs should think about building. Instead of waiting until they are ready to exit, it asks them to consider from day one: If you stepped away tomorrow, what would still work and what would fall apart? Because the strongest businesses are not just profitable. They are built to continue, adapt, and create options for the people who built them. And that kind of business is created long before the exit ever begins.   In this episode, we explored ● Why entrepreneurs sell for reasons beyond retirement, including freedom, new opportunities, and personal or operational limitations ● What buyers look for beyond revenue, including leadership strength, systems, and operational continuity ● How building middle management increases both business value and long-term stability ● Why owner dependency is one of the biggest barriers to scalability and transferability ● The role of culture, employees, and relationships in shaping a business’s true value ● The Stone Brothers story and the decision to sell at the right time for the company’s future ● Why the highest offer is not always the best offer for a seller ● How entrepreneurs can build businesses that create freedom and exit optionality from the start Connect With Gregory Kovsky International Business Associates (IBA) Website: https://ibainc.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gregory-kovsky-460aab7/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/IBA/100063808904797/   About Show Up with Priyanka: Show Up With Priyanka is a Top 1% globally ranked podcast where we have conversations with heart-centered, soul-led entrepreneurs exploring leadership, healing, intentional living, and sustainable success. SU140: Healing from the Nonprofit Sector: Stop Losing Yourself While Helping Others with Mazarine Treyz

Many high achievers believe burnout is simply the price of making an impact. But what if the real problem isn't your workload? What if it's the belief that your worth depends on how much you sacrifice? In this profoundly moving conversation, Mazarine Treyz shares the deeply personal journey behind her latest book, Healing from the Nonprofit Sector, revealing how years of working inside mission-driven organizations exposed a painful reality: many people dedicated to helping others slowly lose themselves in the process. As someone who has trained more than 22,000 leaders, helped nonprofits raise millions of dollars, and worked extensively with government agencies, Mazarine has witnessed firsthand how systems can unintentionally reward overworking, emotional suppression, and self-abandonment. Together, Priyanka and Mazarine explore how these patterns don't only exist in nonprofits, they also appear in corporate environments, entrepreneurship, leadership, and even within families. The conversation dives into childhood experiences that create lifelong people-pleasing tendencies, including being the "good child," becoming parentified, suppressing emotions, and learning that love must be earned through service. Mazarine explains how these early experiences often shape adults who become exceptional caregivers, leaders, and professionals but at the expense of their own wellbeing. Throughout the episode, Priyanka vulnerably shares her own healing journey, discussing childhood trauma, corporate experiences, family dynamics, and learning to choose peace over unhealthy relationships. Together, they offer listeners a powerful reminder that healing begins when we stop abandoning ourselves to earn acceptance. One of the most transformative parts of the conversation explores grief not simply as losing someone we love, but grieving lost dreams, unhealthy relationships, childhood wounds, and versions of ourselves we never had the chance to become. Mazarine also introduces practical healing tools like the Feelings Wheel and Needs Wheel, encouraging listeners to reconnect with emotions that many were never taught to identify or express. The episode concludes with a hopeful message: authentic leadership isn't built by endlessly giving more it begins when we honor our own humanity, speak our truth, establish healthy boundaries, and create lives aligned with who we truly are. Whether you're leading a company, serving your community, raising a family, or rebuilding your life after hardship, this conversation offers a compassionate reminder that healing yourself is not selfish, it's one of the greatest gifts you can give the world.   In This Episode, We Explore ● Why overgiving often begins in childhood not adulthood Discover how early family dynamics, people-pleasing, and becoming the "helper" can quietly shape your career, leadership style, relationships, and sense of self-worth. ● The hidden systems that reward burnout Learn why exhaustion isn't always a personal failure but often the result of workplace cultures and systems that normalize overwork, self-sacrifice, and silence. ● Healing grief, speaking your truth, and reclaiming your power Understand how grief, emotional healing, and finding your voice become essential steps toward creating healthier relationships, stronger boundaries, and authentic leadership. ● From surviving to living with intention Discover practical tools including the Feelings Wheel and Needs Wheel that help reconnect you with your emotions, intuition, and unmet needs. ● Building a life that no longer requires self-abandonment Learn why true impact isn't created by sacrificing yourself, but by leading from wholeness, honoring your needs, and allowing yourself to receive as much as you give. SU139: Why Your Cycle Could Be Your Greatest Business Advantage with Adrienne Irizarry

For generations, women have been taught to push harder, ignore their bodies, suppress their emotions, and measure success through productivity systems built around masculine physiology. But what if the very habits we've been praised for are the reason so many women experience burnout, hormonal imbalance, exhaustion, and a growing disconnection from themselves? In this powerful conversation, Adrienne Irizarry invites us to rethink everything we've been taught about success. As a Psycho Alchemist, East Asian Medicine Practitioner, Medical Intuitive, and women's health educator, Adrienne explains that the female body was never designed to operate on a constant 24-hour productivity cycle. Instead, women naturally move through an infradian rhythm often reflected through the cycle—that influences energy, creativity, communication, leadership, intuition, and emotional capacity. Rather than resisting these natural shifts, Adrienne shares how honoring these rhythms allows women to lead with greater ease, make wiser decisions, prevent burnout, and create sustainable success without sacrificing their wellbeing. Throughout the episode, Priyanka shares her own experience of integrating moon cycle awareness into entrepreneurship, discovering how planning, strategy, visibility, content creation, and leadership become more intentional and impactful when aligned with her body's natural rhythm. Together, they explore how working with these cycles not against them can unlock greater creativity, confidence, fulfillment, and inner peace. The conversation goes even deeper as Adrienne introduces the concept of body wisdom—the innate intelligence constantly communicating through intuition, emotions, physical sensations, and our monthly rhythms. Rather than allowing the analytical mind to override these signals, she explains how learning to trust the body's wisdom leads to healthier decisions, stronger boundaries, deeper self-trust, and more authentic leadership. Adrienne also shares how years of personal health challenges including surviving a heart attack linked to birth control, navigating postpartum recovery, and facing infertility became the catalyst for discovering the healing power of listening to her body instead of constantly pushing beyond its limits. One of the most fascinating parts of this episode explores how emotions can become stored within the body and how creating safe spaces for emotional expression often supports profound physical and emotional healing. Through inspiring client stories, Adrienne reveals how reconnecting with the body's wisdom has helped women experience healthier cycles, greater vitality, and a completely different relationship with themselves. Throughout the conversation, both Priyanka and Adrienne remind us that feminine leadership isn't about doing more, it's about becoming more deeply connected to who we are. When women trust their intuition, honor their cycle, and stop measuring themselves against systems that were never designed for them, they create businesses, relationships, and lives that feel both deeply aligned and sustainably successful. This episode is a powerful reminder that your body has never been working against you. It has been communicating with you all along. Throughout This Episode, We Discuss: Why women naturally operate through an infradian rhythm connected with the cycle, rather than a constant 24-hour productivity cycle How aligning business activities with different phases of your cycle can support greater focus, creativity, and sustainable success Body wisdom versus ego-driven decision-making Emotional healing and its connection to physical wellbeing Ancient feminine wisdom and why more women are reclaiming it today Healing inherited patterns and strengthening intuition Preventing burnout by honoring your natural rhythms Building a business that supports your energy instead of constantly depleting it What We Explore in This Episode ● Body Wisdom Over Hustle Culture Discover why your body is constantly communicating through intuition, emotions, and physical sensations and how learning to listen creates wiser decisions, stronger leadership, and greater inner peace. ● Working With Your Cycle Learn how aligning planning, marketing, creativity, visibility, writing, and leadership with the different phases of your cycle helps you work in harmony with your natural energy instead of constantly pushing against it. ● Emotional Healing & Women's Wellbeing Understand how suppressed emotions can manifest physically and why emotional expression plays an essential role in healing, resilience, and long-term wellbeing. ● Ancient Wisdom for Modern Women Explore how timeless feminine practices can help women reconnect with their intuition, honor their natural rhythms, and create lives rooted in vitality and alignment. ● Feminine Leadership in a New Era Discover why sustainable success isn't built through constant hustle, but through self-awareness, intentional living, and honoring the wisdom already within you.   Connect with Adrienne Irizarry Website:https://moonessence.life Instagram: @moonessenceme Podcast: Reproductive Rebel Podcast Programs: Cycle Alchemy Toolkit Liminal Space Sessions 1:1 Mentorship & Community Programs About Show Up with Priyanka: Show Up With Priyanka is a Top 1% globally ranked podcast where we have conversations with heart-centered, soul-led entrepreneurs exploring leadership, healing, intentional living, and sustainable success. SU138: From Engineering to Soul Purpose: Finding Alignment Beyond Success (As Featured on Angelic Footprints Podcast)

This conversation is unlike many of the interviews you've heard me give over the past year. Rather than focusing on business frameworks, systems, or scaling strategies, Dagmar creates space for something much more personal, the journey that shaped the woman behind the business. Together, we reflect on how two professionals from highly structured careers –engineering and law –each reached a moment where achievement no longer equaled fulfillment. I share what it was like to recognize that, although my career looked successful from the outside, I had become disconnected from my authentic self. That realization began a journey of healing, spiritual awakening, and ultimately creating a business that allows people to grow without sacrificing themselves in the process. One of the themes that emerged throughout our conversation is that alignment isn't simply a spiritual idea, it becomes a practical way of making decisions.   I share how I now evaluate opportunities through what I call my Three Ps: Does it protect my peace? Is it profitable? Does it align with my purpose? We also explore why boundaries are essential for anyone stepping into greater leadership. Alignment may attract opportunities, but boundaries protect your energy so you can continue serving from a place of wholeness instead of exhaustion. Another meaningful part of our conversation centers around daily practices that help us stay connected to ourselves instead of becoming consumed by outside expectations. Rather than chasing more, we discuss slowing down, listening inward, and creating businesses that energize rather than drain us. This episode is a reminder that your greatest transformation doesn't begin when your circumstances change. It begins when you reconnect with yourself.   What We Explore in This Episode From Engineering to Purpose How leaving a traditional corporate path became the beginning of a much deeper journey toward authentic leadership. What Alignment Really Feels Like Recognizing the emotional, physical, and energetic signs of living in—or out of—alignment. Embodied Leadership Why boundaries, intuition, and self-awareness allow leaders to create greater impact without burnout. Purpose Before Performance How building a meaningful life starts by defining success on your own terms rather than living according to someone else's expectations.   Connect with Dagmar Bryant: https://www.skool.com/connectingwithyourangels/abouthttps://angelic-footprints.com/https://angelicfootprints.alitu.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/dagmar-bryant/   About Show Up with Priyanka: Show Up With Priyanka is a Top 1% globally ranked podcast where we have conversations with heart-centered, soul-led entrepreneurs exploring leadership, healing, intentional living, and sustainable success.
