She attended both Fisk University and the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education in Health Promotion. She has a Doctor of Public Health degree in Behavior Sciences and Health Education from the Florida A&M University. Being a two-time HBCU alumna, active member of her sorority, co-founder and COO of an Atlanta-based company serving predominantly Black health needs, and lecturer at the #1-ranked HBCU in the country, Dr. James knows a thing or two about managing multiple projects and put them into this tool. She is also a member of the 6th WEI Cohort alongside some of Atlanta’s most innovative and promising women entrepreneurs. She earned her 200 HR yoga certification from Core Power Yoga in 2021 and her mat Pilates certification from Power Pilates in 2023. Guided by the motto: “living well, inside and out,” Kiersten is passionate about encouraging women of color to view wellness as a standard and not a luxury. She uses her knowledge to build online communities of women who share resources around mindfulness, movement, food and everything in between. Her Tik Tok boasts a nearly 28k+ followers and growing. Kiersten is the author of “Shedding to Grow,” a coming-of-age collection of poems and short stories. She founded suakoko betty because she loved the boldness and authenticity she felt when wearing West African prints and wanted to share that feeling with the world. Born in Liberia, West Africa, Charlene moved to Atlanta when she was 11. As a teenager, she took style lessons from her mom and Liberian church ladies, mixed them with her classic womenswear point of view, and suakoko betty was born.
