Making WEIRD pop Art, if you want it? Hey there, I’m Barrie J Davies a Brighton-based street pop surrealism artist, full-time mischief-maker, professional colour-splasher, and unapologetic creator of all things fun, silly, neon, and gloriously ridiculous and welcome to my podcast. This is a daily podcast, but don’t expect long, serious episodes. These are short, spontaneous bursts of creative chaos – little slices of whatever strange idea, colourful moment, or ridiculous thought happens to be bouncing around my head that day. It’s random, it’s playful, and honestly… it could go absolutely anywhere. Most of the time there are no guests either. Think of it more like checking your answer machine and finding a message from your favourite fun artist. A quick creative ramble, a colourful thought, a weird observation, or a behind-the-scenes moment from the studio before I run off to splash paint on something. Right now, my Brighton art studio looks like a neon carnival collided with a comic book and exploded across walls full of graffiti art, pop art prints, pop surrealist mixed media canvases, and urban art murals. There are screen prints and original artworks flying off the table faster than I can stack them, projects bubbling up like fizzy rainbow soda, and enough paint splatters, stencils, and ink drips to make Jackson Pollock look like a neat freak. It’s chaotic, loud, messy… and gloriously alive with creative energy. On this podcast, I share the behind-the-scenes of my life as a Brighton contemporary artist working across street pop art and pop surrealism, the strange and silly ideas bouncing around my mind, and all the colourful adventures of creating urban art, graffiti-inspired pieces, and pop culture-fuelled prints with a surreal twist. Some days, I’ll be talking about a brand-new screen print dipped in candy floss, other days I might be rambling about why pigeons look like performance artists, or why glitter should be an essential part of any pop surrealist mixed media artwork. Basically, if it’s ridiculous, neon, and fun, it’s in. Because this podcast is daily and unpredictable, one episode might be about a painting fresh off the easel, the next might be a strange thought about street art, pop culture, Brighton life, or some completely random creative idea that appeared while staring at a dripping paintbrush. Short episodes, big imagination, zero rules. This isn’t your typical art podcast.
