23 - The Importance of Sustainability and Small Businesses

HAPPY WEDNESDAY! And unfortunately, it's another Wednesday we're stuck in quarantine. We are still living in the midst of a pandemic, and the economic repercussions are so, so heavy. According to the Washington Post, over 100,000 small businesses have closed forever due to COVID-19. This is huge, not just for our economy but for our communities and the people in them. Small businesses help provide communities with a sense of identity and place! Think of your hometown and its main street or downtown area. These businesses matter, so in today's episode, we sit down with a local small business owner to talk all things small business and sustainability. ------------------- Today's guest is Annie Law, founder of ANDWHY. and Line By Moi. Annie is a native New Yorker who is currently a student at Fashion Institute of Technology, studying Marketing + Communications. She aspires to be someone people can rely on for help in areas regarding life and career. With her love for psychology, philosophy, design, photography, and much more, she wants to be a representative of passionate and creative Asian Americans. The biggest goal of hers is to tell stories that are untold and unwritten. Whether that be through stories of her own, of others, or through simple creativity. ------------------- BLACK LIVES MATTER RESOURCES: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ ------------------ Connect with Annie Instagram: @anniexjl | Podcast IG: @andwhymedia | Listen to her podcast HERE Shop Line By Moi Instagram: @linebymoi | Shop HERE ------------------- If you liked this episode, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rookies-in-the-real-world/id1502613463 Connect with host Lauren Lapid Instagram: @laurenlapid.jpeg | Linkedin: Lauren Catherine Lapid We love to hear from you! 19 - Taking Ownership of Your Life & Pursuing Your Passions ft. Brandon Lee

Has anybody else had an existential crisis—whether it was in college or post college in your early 20s—where you sat back and wondered what the f**k you actually want to do with your life? It’s actually kind of wild to think that after we graduated from high school (and we are babies—just think about all of the dumb decisions you made your senior year of high school and freshman year of college) like, all of a sudden, you’re asked to pick your major—aka decide the general trajectory for the rest of your life. Which is WILD. Who the f**k knows exactly who they are at like 18? I know way too many people who were coerced into a major they thought was the right choice because their parents told them it was a good idea—it’d set them up for a stable, well paid job out of college. AKA, nursing, PT, kinesiology. But in their heart of hearts, it wasn’t the right fit for them. And then you finish college, or you’re in the middle of a loveless job, and the question hits you like a ton of bricks: “Now what?” This episode's guest is the crazy talented Brandon Lee. Brandon an action actor, model, and stunt double based out of Los Angeles, CA. He grew up doing Taekwondo his whole life, as his father owns a Taekwondo school. He is a 2019 USA Taekwondo National Gold Medalist for Freestyle Poomsae (forms), a 2019 USA Taekwondo National Team Member, and a Certified Taekwondo Master Instructor from the World Taekwondo Federation. He’s been teaching for 8 years now to all ages. And not too long ago, he moved out to Los Angeles to seriously pursue his career in acting! ------------------- BLACK LIVES MATTER RESOURCES: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ ------------------ Connect with Brandon Instagram: @bardonree | YouTube Link | TikTok: @barndonree ------------------- Check out Brandon's gym, JAM here: http://joiningallmovement.com/ JAM Podcast Site | Apple Podcast Link ------------------- If you liked this episode, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rookies-in-the-real-world/id1502613463 Connect with host Lauren Lapid Instagram: @laurenlapid.jpeg | Linkedin: Lauren Catherine Lapid We love to hear from you!
