Even if a shot is cinematic gold, beautiful, exquisite and impactful, if it doesn’t help advance the story, then you have to kill it off. In the same way for gameplay, if your VFX are beautiful, mesmerizing and cool, if they don’t satisfy or communicate the right moment for gameplay then kill it off or rework it. iii. “Craft is the sum total of means used to draw the audience into deep involvement, to hold that involvement, and ultimately to reward it with a moving and meaningful experience.     Ep 48 - VFX Education (Sjors De Laat)

    Sjors de Laat has worked on video game VFX and cinematics for Fortnite, Godfall: Fire & Darkness, Tales of Runeterra, Sackboy, and Gears of War 5.  He is currently working at Tuatara Games as Senior VFX Artist where he contributes to projects like the My Hero Academia skins for Fortnite, and DLC for Godfall. Johnson is currently the Lead VFX Artist at Free Range Games, working on their next AAA project.  He has a background bridging film and games in many disciplines, and which has taken him all over the globe. His film work includes franchises such as Lord of the Rings, Matrix, Star Wars , Star Trek, Hellboy, and Shrek. His game development titles include “Black Ops 3”, “Call of Duty : Zombies Chronicles Remaster” and “Gears Tactics”, on which project he was the Lead VFX Artist at Splash Damage, a studio in London.
