    694. Why Does Everything Feel Harder When There's Nowhere Soft To Land?

I can do almost anything if I know I get to come home. It was 100 degrees in the Grove at Ole Miss. Packed. Dusty. Rowdy. Not my jam. And I had a good time anyway — not because I toughened up, because before we walked into that crowd, we had already stood in a tiny brand-new cabin 15 minutes from campus and left the AC running. I’m Heidi Dawson, an interior designer, and this is Wildly Successful Lifestyle. Your house doesn’t have to be perfect. It has to be able to receive you. That “somewhere to land” is what makes a hard day bearable — and what lets you step out of your comfort zone on purpose. In this episode: • LSU vs Ole Miss, 100-degree heat, and a tailgate that is not my natural habitat • Why we walked into the cabins before we left for the Grove • What a landing place does to your nervous system in a crowd • Why home doesn’t need to be showroom-ready — it needs to be able to catch you If you’ve been white-knuckling days because you don’t have a soft place to come back to, this one’s for you. Tell me in the comments: what’s the room that catches you? I read them. Subscribe for twice-weekly videos on mindset, intentional living, and a home that feels like a sanctuary. 692. Are You Designing Your House for People Who Don’t Live There?

She looked at me and said, “Aren’t we supposed to have three there?” We were ordering barstools. The island only wanted two that actually fit. She had been living with a third one parked on the wall for years — because somewhere along the way, three felt like the rule. I asked her how many times in twenty years three people had sat at that island at the same time. She laughed. Never. I’m Heidi, an interior designer, and this is the conversation I keep having in other people’s kitchens and in my own head: we design for the version of the house that looks right on paper. Not the Tuesday that actually happens. In this episode: • The client who thought three stools was a rule • Why “supposed to” is usually someone else’s life sitting in your room • The formal rooms, extra chairs, and guest-ready kitchens that nobody uses • The only design rule I actually live by If your house is set up for people who don’t live there — or a chapter you’re not in anymore — this one’s for you. Tell me in the comments: what in your house is there because it’s “supposed to” be? I read them. 690. Why Does Everyone Else's Life Look Shiny?

Why does everyone else’s life seem so shiny — the hair, the body, the brand-new white-marble kitchen — when you walk into your own house? You’re not competing with your town anymore. Your phone handed you the entire world on a staged platter and called it the neighborhood. I’m Heidi, an interior designer who loves her house… and I can still scroll for four minutes and watch my own kitchen feel tired. Not because it is. Because I just walked through twenty rooms that were lit for a camera. In this episode: • What happened when comparison left your street and went global • The gym where influencers film a workout they never actually do • What you don’t see when I stage a kitchen for photos (the real life is in the cabinets) • Why you can change every piece of furniture — even move across the country — and the feeling still follows you • The house you live in in your head, and why that’s the room that actually has to get quiet • One question before you move the chair, order the thing, or let the scroll write your morning: am I doing this because I love how I feel, or because their life looked shiny? Wanting a beautiful room is not the injury. I build beautiful rooms. The injury is using someone else’s photo-day life as the measuring tape for whether you’re allowed to rest in yours. If you’ve been chasing shine and wondering why the room never fixes the feeling, subscribe. I post twice a week. Listen on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
