You Hear It, But You’re Still Missing It

You can be looking and still not see.You can be hearing and still not listen. The real question may not be, “Am I paying attention?” but “What has my attention right now?” In James 1:19–27, we are told to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. But James pushes us even further: hearing God’s Word is not enough. Real listening changes us. In this message, “You’re Listening, But You’re Still Missing It,” we look at David’s confrontation with Nabal and the moment Abigail stepped into his path. David became so consumed by one insult that he nearly allowed his anger to determine who he would become. Sometimes anger does that.Sometimes fear does it.Sometimes anxiety, hurt, politics, success, hurry, work, or even church activity can capture so much of our attention that everything else fades into the background. And we can completely miss what God has placed right in front of us. This sermon challenges us to: • PAUSE. LISTEN. NOTICE.What has my attention? What am I missing? Who is in front of me? • ASK FOR THE BLIND SPOT.Am I humble enough to hear something I do not want to hear? • TURN THE MIRROR INTO A MOVE.What needs to change? Who do I need to notice? What is God asking me to do today? What holds your attention will eventually shape your movement. The question is not simply, “Did I hear the sermon?” The question is: What has God placed in front of me that I have not been paying attention to?
